  1. Okay

"ummmmmmm........timing... it wasnt adjusted to run on premium so i am juessing that the timing is the same as it was 60 years ago. distributer does have a vacuum advance....dont know if it actually is working. it is hooked up. the plugs are brand new. the floats have been adjusted reciently. i dont know what the boosters are. dont know what a check valve is, carb is like 25 years old. been rebuilt about 1 year ago. Choke???? it has a electric choke that doesnt really work....at all. dont know what ratio the rear end is. 5 speed overdrive tranny.rpm at 50: 1300-1400. the fuel tank is inside the cab of the truck so if it had a leak i would probably smell a lot of gas. i can smell a little in the cab but not a lot. probably do have a gas leak because the tank filler cap doesnt seal the tank properly because the idiot who had the truck before me who also drilled holes inside the cab for a gun rack, he had a locking fuel cap and lost the key to it and took pliers and wrenched it off so the filler is bent. no tranny temp guage but wouldnt you notice the slippage in the rpms??? it does skip 3rd gear. and shift way early in all the other gears. rpms never reach 1500 except in 5th. i just replaced both front calipers because i jacked up my front end the other day and found out that my tires wouldnt spin. took a lot of strength to just turn the tires. that might be part of the reason for the [you said a naughty!] gas milage..dont know yet if the milage improved because i havent drove it. had to take out the rotten break lines and my whole drive shaft because of a blown out universal and midbearing."

  2. With the supplied ducting at 41" each I don't think they would be long enough to reach down and around obstacles to the parking light holes on a 70 style bumper.

Also don't be fooled by this quote they have on their add...

    Quote:
These kits can allow an average V8 engine to produce up to 50HP more due to the cold air that they are designed to inhale (as opposed to hot air ingested by a typical round 14'' air cleaner).

You would be lucky to get any benefit from them...heck if it was that simple our cars would have come with that set-up from the factory... wink

I mentioned in other posts on this subject that I have played quite a bit with a cold air set-up using several different configurations and actual track testing it and have seen no improvement. Now if the carb was tuned for it that might help though.

I saw the ones that have dual cones with boxes around them

I like the holley one too

  3. It's a 350 from a vette with a 700r4

We're both pretty sure it's got stock heads and everything.

It has a 4 bbl holley and an eldebrock intake.

He gets literally 5 mpg and drives like an old man.

I get about 3 times better mpg's with a stroker, quuadrajet, preformer intake and cam, and new heads.

    What's his problem?

    stock heads 4bbl?

    Help??

  4. Okay so i've noticed ths slight hum coming from the tranny whenever i floor it in 3rd gear from like 50-75mph. Is it the tranny slowing down untill it can downshift or do i have a problem. Maakes the same sound if i downshift manually.

I rarely do 3rd to second gear pulls anymore so i was wondering if there was something wrong.

    How's everyone doing anyway??

  5. I try and put it in around every oil change on my 2 trucks, but its usually around 1 or 2 times a year. Seems to clean the injectors out a bit,but who knows?

I'm chirping gears again so what ever it does it works

I thought the cold made it run bad, turns out it's not

    no?

Keep up the burnouts and you should be there in no time lolshifter

It was one parking lot shenanigan! yay

  7. Kenny, I know you have a 383 stroker in your '72 but do you know what else was done to the engine? Do you know the compression ratio and the cam timing/lift? What about your intake manifold and carb? I would assume they are not stock but you never know. I think you said earlier that you have stock exhaust manifolds but maybe the prior owner just ran out of funds before he got around to getting headers.

Does you engine continually burn oil (i.e. exhaust always smokes some) and does it smoke a lot when you romp on it?

Maybe you've already answered all of these questions in a prior thread, but if not, it would sure help other members diagnose your plug fouling problems if we knew more about your engine.

Well it's a 350 bored out with a 400 crank, it has an eldebrock intake (not sure what model number) and a 750 quadrajet.

It never smokes, i think it's a slow slow burn.

The no foul plug seems kind of sketchy

  8. I tend to use carb spray alot i just noticed.

Now other than getting little bits of debris off in the carb am i hurting anything?

It runs so much better after i spray it, i'm assuming the boost in octane?

Maybe i should just dump some octane booster in the gas? I'm already running 93 all the time.

Also, i'm still have a fouled cylinder. I was wondering if there was any way to clean the gunk out of the cylinder, perhaps sea foam or engine shampoo?

    Thanks!

  9. I start it normally and it runs fine for about 5-6 seconds and then it dies.

The funny thing is the, first time I start it from letting it sit for about 30 minutes to an hour, it will run fine for about 5 minutes. and then it will simmer down to a slow death....

I was testing it around with the "trying to keep it running factor" and noticed it will stay running if I keep the rpm's up to 2500... any where below that, even if I'm giving it slight gas, it will absolutely die.

Extra Note: When I say it dies, it doesn't just shut off, it simmers to a death. it will drop all rpm's before it dies, not just a flat shut off.

The wires in my distributor, under the cap and rotor used to touch the shaft in the distributor and make my car do the EXACT same thing.

And my fuel line was too close to my intake after my head job so the gas evaporated before it had a chance to reach the carb.

These two things made me hate my car for a couple months grin
