  3. Thanks for the excellent link mike. It seems i have a 10si, with SI standing for system integrated (meaning voltage regulator is INSIDE the alternator). But to be certain here is the inside of my alternator: Anyone see a voltage regulator? If you do see one, then why do i still have a regulator behind my headlamp? Just bypassed? -Mark
  4. Cool ill look tonight. It seems my main dilema is did the PO convert the alternator to 3wire and bypass the voltage regulator.

    None. It was the cheapest mini that summit said fit. Is it bad to put a high-compression starter on a stock engine?

    Calling summit is good advice and its free. Now i just need to find an alternator.... if anyone hasnt been to that long thread and has some advice on what fits on my car check out my thread in the electrical subforum. -Mark

    I think im going to try this one http://www.summitracing.com/parts/PRO-67052/ because it is a meant to be a staggered fit. Dennis thank you so much for the offer, obviously it will not fit. Dan, I really like the idea of a "mini" starter. I'm trying to modernize everything on the car as much as i can. NOthing is wrong with the starter other then I had to drop it to pull off the power wire. PLus I can always just sell my stock starter here and it will still see a good life :-) -Mark
  10. I replaced my volatge regulator and it was plugged in at the regulator end. HOw can I tell if it has been bypassed?

  12. So maybe it's there but disconnected? Would 3 wire work if the voltage regulator was still connected to it? I really need someone to tell me what to do, im so lost!

    If u guys say my s/b is not staggered what does staggered mean? Can anyone verify if dennis' will fit?

    I'm looking for a new starter on summit and having some trouble. I want a mini-one. How many teeth do I need? Max compression? Gear Reduction ratio? staggered/inline? (im assuming bolt placement, if so mine is staggered i think) teeth? I see a lot of 153/168 so im guessing that

  16. and what would be the benefits of the "1989 Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera with the 3.3" over the 140 amp summit one i found? Not doubting you, just curious as to your reasoning... -Mark Also, where does that thrid wire go? And would these http://www.summitracing.com/parts/PWM-1-60/Application/?prefilter=0 work from alternator to (what im assuming is a) positive conneciton on driver side firewall. And from starter to the same connection on firewall.

  18. thats good info, thanks. I just took off my alternator (after disconnecting battery). And i had to unplug two wires... so that was no help if its 1 or 3! lol On wire was a square plug with two terminals that connected at about 10 oclock when the alternator was installed. The other screwed on the the back of the alternator. FYI: i have an 8guage wire going from alternator bracket to neg on battery There was a third, plug/clip that was flat and rectangular but it was not connected to anything. -Mark (I can post pics if it helps you to help me) THANKS GUYS! pretty much will this work?: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SUM-810350/ also what is the difference between 12si or 10si alternators?
  19. I looked at the conversion thread and electrical work confuses the bejeesus outta me. I may just pull my alternator and see how many wires there are... OK, so some of you guys say 3-wire and some say 1. What came stock? Whats the difference?
  20. Is the one you ordered v or serpentine belt? 1 or 3 wire?
