  1. Thanks Rick, I gave them a call and am going to do a shop visit this weekend. Steve
  2. I posted this in the general forum but then thought that I would try here as well. I had two pieces of wood fall on top of the hood of my 70 Monte and dent it in two spots last weekend. It took it down to the primer. The insurance will cover it but I have no idea where to take the car. Can anyone recommend a shop within 60 miles of Hagerstown, MD (21740) ? Thanks for any help! -Steve
  3. So I haven't been able to locate the leak yet but thought I would ask what you guys thought about another idea involving the TH400 in my Monte. I currently have a full manual valve body and a 3200 stall converter. When I originally built the car, I built it for drag racing purposes but kept the stock look. After 12 years of the car being done, I want it to be more driver- friendly and to be able to cruise more with it. Do you guys think I could just order a lower more street- friendly stall converter? Or do you think I should have the trans rebuilt and gone through totally? I have had no issues and the manual valve body doesn't really bother me but I wasn't sure if I could put a lower stall converter in it or if I would need to have the entire trans redone. I also currently run a 4:10 gear ratio in the rear and am switching out to a 3:73 ratio. As a final note, I am not gifted in the areas of setting up rears or rebuilding transmissions. I could drop the trans and change the stall converter myself, but if the trans needs to be rebuilt, then that's something that I would have someone else do who knows their way around the inside of those things. I'm in Maryland, so, if any of you know who to point me to, that would be great. As always, your input is greatly appreciated! Thanks! Steve
  4. Thanks Guys, I'll check that tonight after I get home and let you know what I find. Steve
  5. Hey guys, my TH400 wont stop leaking around the pan. I replaced the gasket twice and last time went with a quite expensive, Moroso blue, steel core gasket that is guaranteed not to leak. It's only leaking from the front "driver's side" corner of the pan, but it's still leaking and enough to make a mess out of the garage floor. Is there any way to stop this leak without silicone? I thought I have seen some sort of metal bracing that you can buy that you bolt to the corners that helps seal the gasket better. Any help would be appreciated! Steve
  6. Hi All, Getting the Monte back in working order and am dealing with the issue of the wiper motor not operating. I thought it may have been the switch but I'm not sure. The wipers would only come on from time to time and only if you meesed with the switch. Finally, it just stopped working and the wiper motor got really hot. It got so hot that I just pulled the fuse in order to avoid any further damage. Any ideas or suggestions as to where I might start? Thanks, Steve
  7. Thanks Scott, It is the part that bolts to the Radiator Support. Thanks for taking a look for me! -Steve
  8. Hey All, I'm missing bolts from my hood latch, the portion that bolts to the core support. I have been looking around and the only bolts I can find are "Body Bolts". I'm assuming these are the bolts used on the fenders and such. Can anyone tell me if they would be the same for the hood latch bolts I am missing? Thanks for any help! -Steve
  9. That turned out super nice, MG! I currently have a delete plate in mine and want to just have heat back in the car again. That's for the instruction pics!
  10. Thanks for the help guys! Mike, Have you done this before and if so, can I pick your brain when I go to do it?
  11. Mike, The gears have been in the car since 2001. I only drove it on weekends and some track days for about 3 years and parked it in 2004 where it has been sitting in storage ever since. I just pulled it out of storage and am going over the car before I put tags back on it and I noticed a drip coming from the pinion. I've never changed a pinion seal before and wasn't sure on the difficulty of it. I didn't set up the gears in it. I had it done by a guy in Baltimore at the time. Now I live a distance away from him and am not sure if he's even around anymore. What would be your opinion on the matter? Is it something that could be done with patience and instruction?
  12. Hi all, My 70 Monte has a Strange Engineering Posi unit with Richmond 4.10 gears. Its a .030 over 454 with a TH400 transmission with a 3200 stall converter. I am about to embark on changing the pinion seal that is leaking slightly and was looking around for opinions as to what weight gear oil I should put back in it. I emailed the guys at Strange Engineering and they said to run 75W140 weight gear oil in the rear. Does this sound to heavy to you guys? I think I only had 80W90 in it. Also, any suggestions to help with changing the pinion seal? Do you have to install a new crush sleeve? I have been reading about simply marking the pinion nut and after replacing the seal, simply torquing the nut down to where it was before. As always, suggestions are welcome! Thanks!
