  1. I would go to junk yards but they won't let any one under 18 in guess it has some thing to do with insurance if I was to get hurt. Also other than bolting down the shifter and to weld in the brackets what else do you have to do ?
  2. I have never been in a indoor car show whats that like and where in north carolina do you find one. I have been to car shows near a hot rod shop that had about 7 incomplete cars but other than that never an autorama type show.

    FENDERS ?

Well I dont have a 1970 71or a 72 monte carlo yet ... the reason I wanted to know is you can never tell what some one could have done to a car before you buy it and most pepole are not great body workers. we are going to take a manet and go over the car to find where the bondo spots are if there are any.but I hope fully wont need them but it's good to do a little research before you get involved in a project If I find a good pair for a good price I would jump on it.

Well I get this book from summit racing and they have these big HEI distributers for diffrent cars and racing and I just wanted to know would that work on a 1972 monte carlo. and if it did would that be any better than going to a junk yard and finig one and rebuild it. Because I dont want to have to rebuild some thing that has wires and parts that I have never seen before or pay some one to do some thing wrong and lose gas money. And that may be diffrent some where else but I dont have the time or the money to take a chance with.
  5. I read that for installing a horse shoe shifter I dont have a welder but I am only 13 but my grand dads cousin has one hes a profestional mechanic. I have seen the kit for the horse shoe shifter but I didnt know what all it had or if I would need it or not. I ll have to look at it when I can but I learned some thing new today. Thanks for sharing that with me I just wanted to say thanks to every one on here.
  6. this morning out in nc I got to smell some of that 110 fuel. And I got to hear some big cams and I saw a monte carlo couldnt tell what year it was moving and I never saw the front end but we chased it for a while but it was to cold. so we stoped after a while and walked back. we always find new ways to make a monte carlo owner stop. one almost ran me over and one guy tryed to sell his freinds monte for 14000 to me. but we had no money and it was a 454.
  7. I agree if you put you hart into some thing and do it right and take your time you can build and do every thing. If my car isn't a floor shift auto matic I will convert it between me my grand dad and god it will happpen. Also what type of transmission is needed for a floor shift a turbo 400 or a turbo 350? Or dose it not matter?
  8. Well what about 104 octane mixed with 93 would that hurt it any?

Has any one run with a new Hei distributer?
  10. What about 104 or 110 octane would that hurt my engine at all? or would it make it run better every one Ive talked to about race fuel has said it smells good and it wouldnt really hurt it to run a higher octane. But I dont know if that applys to my engine and car so I thought I would ask some one who owned one.

Has any one bought a brand new one from summit racing and why go to a junk yard for used one you have to take some where and get it rebuilt? wouldn't it cost about the same after finding one and rebuilding it and burning the gas to get there as buying a brand new one. And what if you bought a used one and spent alot witch is very possible and find out theres A issue with it that cant be fixed then you have to spend even more money. so why go to a junk yard and take a risk? I dont mean to question any thing but where iam at I cant go in junk yards witch makes me mad my grand dad grew up near junk yards and now theres only a few junk yards way out in the country. I wish I could live in the country I would do some major fishing and kick my dads butt so bad he'd have nightmares
  12. So big blocks have more torque small blocks have the same power but what if I put alluminum heads on my car. Also I did a compression cacluator thing and I am looking at around 9:7:1 for compression some where in that range. I will be running 93 or higher so I dont think detonation will be a problem. And with that I bring up another question what octane helps the engine the most and wont eat up my money? I have never rebuilt an engine but my grand dads built more than I can count. plus his cousin is a mechanic and I have read 2 books on engines and wil be doing some work here and there at a hot rod shop this summer. So I will be rebuilding my engine ( hopefully a origonal numbers matching small block 350 ). I would find a big block but I think a 350 will be best for a 13 year old.
  13. I heard from my next door monte carlo owner that his small block 350 was beating big blocks almost every time.I read that you can get just as much hp from a small block with out all the wheight to slow you down.He races his car at the zmax drag strip every now and then.My question is if this is true and has been proven then what advantages are there for each?
