This is the top car i.ve been waiting on that now i car afford.. I do fit better with the electric bench then my other bench seats. the tilt wheel is super nice to get in. The electric windows and locks are iceing on the cake lol fiber turn signals work.

  2. Hello. I Just picked up the ss car  I had looked at. I mention the rocker having been scrapped and I rechecked the frame. Frame is mint condition. I had the seller drive around for 5 miles to make sure it drove straight and It did. I didn't see a vin on  the transmission.. but it drives smooth. The power is exciting. everything works minus the air shocks that he  removed and he put the first ones in the trunk. I think a oem looking hei distributor will be the only thing i do to it. Many thanks for the input i needed to feel comfortable spending 36k for the car. What code on the cowl tag tells me what color the top . If it should be white or another color. I haven't seen one with a white top so far. Does it seem to be the correct forest green , its seems to change with the lighting. Thanks

  3. Thanks for the information. I believe it to be numbers matching. because of the all but 2 numbers not visable..and 6 week period between body motor is in the time frame. I made a offer and he is not moving the price much. I have yet to see a white top green car yet. I figure i will try to get alittle better price to correct the rocker and just enjoy to the ride. I will text him tomorrow and hammer something out. The color is much better in person and a sunny day. Lets just say beautiful. I.m not even a green color car guy. But i will be now

  4. The pad under alternator has  letters TO41 then looks like a faint 6 and then crn . Looks like vin is double stamped in the rear boss area. Is that normal? that area seems rougher then others ive seen. Its a very nice car. I know of a body shop that can fix the  rocker.   i dont plan on selling it and just driving it to shows and cruise. How much would it cost to build one and all the options, cold ac and clock is on time. One with the paperwork will cost more  in the 40 to 50 plus  10 percent cost if at a auction. Plus shipping. I will keep shopping and offer him a fair price. I can still buy another ss car and get rid of 2 base cars . I am running out of parking. I'm old enough now to buy something pretty turn key. I'll have my brother drive behind and see that it drives straight and not crab w

  5. Thanks for the input, the frame looked clean and it appeared to be the rocker got the damage. car looked frame off restored. frame was clean and floor pans were excellent. I just feel if a car only has 2000 since restored, the doors should shut correctly. gaps on doors not perfect. I could ask him to drop the price to get those things fixed. On the vin I can barely see  1667 but cant make out the last two 3 an 0.  Other thing is if monte ss are the only cars that ha the vin near the oil filter, then a good chance of it being the correct block? trans tag not original?

  6. Hello everyone. I looked at the 1970 ss. Not as good as i hoped. Vin not readable at the oil filter boss. No paper work. I felt this is a deal breaker without paper work. I can see the CRN code on front and acouple numbers. I would think a CRN coded block can be bought on ebay.  Damage on the drivers side lower rocker. I didn't get a picture. I'm guessing is someone ran over something and crushed in the rocker. Maybe ran over a curb or something bad happened. Bono a foot or 2 long and spots popping  in bottom of rocker . there is a split 4 inches into the seam.  Quarter on pass side has a air gap where the rear light housing meets up. Guy said he disconnected the air pump and replaced rear shocks. He has air shocks in box along with leveler. He bought last September and said he was selling because it wasn't as comfortable as he 70 chevelle he had sold. Trans label doesn't have the codes. I don't see him getting more then 30k. There is a door chip in drivers door an one on top pass. fender. I removed the vents as door jams and looked inside and all looked good. Tell me what you think. I am hard pressed to spend the money.

  8. thanks for the input. I told the guy i would come out Sunday. He's a hour or so  from me.   I will  have hagerty tow it back. I need to review the vin codes and aslong as the vin is on the block with correct crn code. then it should be legit. Deff. looks like a straight car. I'm sure the steering wheel has the cracks in them, but im sure theres a way to restore that or a oem replacment

  9. Yes its craigslisted 12 days ago. I emailed last week and he calls me at 2 pm  yesterday, but knew rush hour will be there 4 hours later and bank probably closed by the time i looked it over.  the rear exhaust is standard exit piping right side more visable then left tip and under bumper I thought ss would have the chrome tips? oval like chevelle have
? which is correct? thanks for the input. If I dont get there soon enough then its not meant to be. bucket seat car . would have done rush hour. But i can live with forest green. lol

  10. Hello, I found a local car. The older man says it was restored with 2000 miles since restore, He bought it last September, He thought it would be more room then his 1970 chevelle  he sold . He  says he can't fit in it comfortably  Im big too, so i would probably put extender brackets to get more room. He doesn.t have any paper work or build sheet. maybe its under rear seat. Is it worth mid 30.s . I see some cars from Flint MI didn't have certain paperwork? I am going to look at it next Monday. I would rather have a black car or red with buckets. but this is 1st one I,ve seen locally and i like to buy locally. I see good deals on mecum auctions also . it has alot of options,, but he said it was a dealership owners cars from the midwest and he bought from a classic car dealer from FL, I would appreciate some advise and input of more knowable members that know from owning one. I am just going to get some camera picture of the rear of the block also,, thanks Keith

  11. Hey monte members. I just got my latest low mileage  72 monte with 34,198 miles. 350 2 bbl , special order paint, fathom blue I wish the paint was shined up some more. I used some wash and wax stuff to wash it. I don't know if I,m better off having it wet polished at a body shop or is there good polish or wax for original laquer paint that would bring  the shine back to life. it has a decent shine but what would be the best way to handle a original paint car,  there is a small area  of paint on top about a half dollar size  that has come off in the rear to top seam area and a shopping cart dent in rear quarter that made the first owner park the car inside since 1990. 2nd owner (a car friend now) installed new tank and fuel pump installed, carb rebuilt. bump key and starts, ac needs a charge or whatever, need new wheels and tires with white walls (original tires have cracks ofcourse on sidewall .., plan on replacing caliper hoses and repack wheel bearings and drive to local shows. keep the miles down. maybe trailer to carlise  show or the beach shows.   Thanks Keith

  12. Thanks for the input Tom. I just don't want to go with a color people don't favor. I just figured these cars only come around original once. I am a dark color fan.  1 st owner ordered in 1971 was a special order. I have the original order sheet from dealership. the car is still at the guys garage I bought it from. I need to see my newer car to make room. I will check out cowl tag this Monday when I have it delivered. original tires on car. it says color 28 fathom blue on work order. I wonder how rare does it make it.. whats the difference between fathom blue and the mulsanne blue offered in 72? anyone know?

  13. Hello, members, I have a chance to buy  a 1970 monte , garage kept, 51k mile car. No rust , but in one spot, drivers fender behind the lower chrome moulding needs a patch. It is a  small block car # match drivetrain. gobie beige with white or crème white top. The interior like new, light saddle buckets and factory gauges with air condition blowing cold. It is at a body shop waiting on a color pick. It has not been sanded down yet.  I just purchased from the same gentleman, a 1972 monte in special order paint phantom blue, with 34,200 original miles, small block , no top. blue bench seat. I have 5 1972 montes. One is a 402, so I have that big block itch, is taken care of ,for now. Running out of room. I,m going to have to buy a car trailer. If I buy the 1970, or sell one of my project cars. My question is how desirable is gobie beige. Also inside trunk lid looks new with factory labels looking new  and door jambs wont need painting, less cost at shop?  I lean toward 1972.   I know 1970 is what people lean toward and better resale value. I,m leaning towards keeping it gobie beige and maybe end up selling it.  I,m probably going to have about 16k into it finished. All new brakes and everything mechanical has been done. It just needs paint and drive. would it be worth keeping it original color. or is there a higher resale if I make it phantom blue or black?  whats your input , Thanks
