  1. A question for my fellow four-speed Monte Carlo owners. When it comes to clutch replacement which route would you go? Would you get a rebuilt one from a parts house such as Napa or a new one from another parts place. The last time I replaced the clutch on the first Monty I owned back in the 1980s I was working at a GM dealership and got a factory clutch. I don’t need a pressure plate that requires 1000 foot pounds of force or needs a hydraulic port-o- power to depress. It’s a street car but now and then I like to turn it loose. John S

    Speakers

I knew those were sold by OPGI . My car does not have air-conditioning and I do not want to give up the kick panel vents. John S

    Speakers

Yes I found that out there is a small cut out in the body but it looks too small for the magnet to go through.

    Speakers

Has anybody tried to install 4 inch speakers in the kick panels. If you have let me know if they will fit. John S
  5. Pull the speedometer cable out and spin The cable at the transmission end by hand or slowly in a variable speed drill. See if the end of the cable that goes into the speedometer if it rotates true or if it wobbles. Mine wobbled after tweaking the cable a little bit it started to spin true and when I installed it no more speedometer bouncing. John S
  6. Thanks for the help it’s been many years since I’ve worked with speedometer cables. John S
  7. When you replace the speedometer cable with the new one should you pull the cable out and lightly lubricate it or leave it as it is? I was going to lightly lubricate it with white lithium grease. It is been about 40 years since I replaced one let me know what you guys do with them. John S
  8. It doesn’t state the length of the speedometer cable only the part number. I’ve got it figured out they make a number of different lengths you got to use your head and figure it out. John S
  9. If the speedometer cable is routed the way the assembly manual states 60 inch cable is too short. The 60 inch cable looks as if it would work on the transmission with the speedo connection on the driver side. A 69 or 70 inch cable seems to fit correctly as shown in the assembly manual. Also I have a four-speed manual. John S
  10. Thanks
  11. Does anyone have an idea what the length of a speedometer cable for a 70 Monte Carlo with a four-speed is? The one that is presently on the car is not correct and is considerably longer than I believe it should be. If anyone has an idea I’d appreciate it. I didn’t look at the parts place to see if they have lengths listed. I got one years ago from in line tube and this one as well over 70 inches long that can’t be right. John S

  13. Yes the other side is done also. And I also took the other weld on clamps off in the rear and put the original clamps back on. I’ve done this long enough to know that if one side breaks the other is not far behind.
  14. This is what I did to repair it you can see the repair that I built up then ground down. John S
  15. My exhaust broke in the exact same place with the weld on exhaust hanger breaking off. Repaired it with wire feed welder and used factory exhaust hangers and clamps to repair John S
  16. I’ve never heard of that before. Either one of them works well right? I have been using something called Aerospace 303. John S
  17. Thanks I will do that. There is a difference between those two different styles. Parts houses will tell you there is no difference but most if not all people working at auto parts stores don’t know anything about carburetors. Again thanks. John S
  18. Question Dennis. Where did you find, or who can you get the vacuum choke pulloff at? The pulloff in your picture is half brass. Those are hard to find. I got one like that years ago, can’t find that style now. The only one available is all plastic. If you know where that style is at or who it can be bought from please let me know. John S

    Happy

Headlight shields, don’t see them too often anymore. Nice John S
  20. When I installed my passenger side mirror I took a small piece of 1/8” metal stock I believe maybe 3/8” wide. Matched the holes drilled them out and tapped them. Then I put a type of polyurethane sealant to work as an adhesive and tighten down the mounting for the mirror. In the future when I pull the mirror and the bracket off all I have to do is unscrew the screws and the sealant will hold the metal in place so I do not have to take the door panel off. John S

I noticed that in the past couple days I received a couple of badges. I don’t know what they mean didn’t even know we had them I have been a member since 2014. Not important, I don’t know the significance of them maybe someone can explain. As I said not important just curious. John S
