  1. Parts houses sell those "speedy sleeves" that fit on the harmonic balancer. I believe I got one from Autozone. They come with sleeve and installation tool. I installed one on my balancer since the seal had cut a groove in it. Problem solved. John S
  2. At the external voltage regulator the white wire is cut and not used. The blue and brown wires are spliced together. The red wire at the two wire alternator connection is the sensing wire. You can run that wire to and splice that to the red wire from the 4 wire connecter at the external regulator. That is the way I hooked mine up and works fine. Some diagrams will show jumping the red wire at the alt to the red power wire that connects to the back of the alt. Not a good choice since as I said the red wire is the sensing wire and with that short of a wire will not properly sense voltage drop and charge correctly. Very simple. John S
  3. I did the same thing. Spliced into the Red 12 gauge wire from horn relay to 4 splice near the instrument panel. John S
  4. http://www.leverfamilysite.com/images/PDF_Files/How_To_Install_Bucket_Seats_and_Console.pdf This may help. There also was some info on a chevelle forum.
  5. I have the small radiator. 20 3/4 inches with 3 bolt top cover and no A/C. It gets HOT in Georgia and I had a 3 row core installed and have no issues at all. Even idling in traffic in 95 + temps.
  6. OK thanks. I appreciate the help especially when it is kept simple. When under a load the vacuum from the intake combined with loss of vacuum at the Choke pulloff that holds plates closed under normal driving must be strong enough to override what vacuum is at the pulloff under hard acceleration. I've got a book on Quadrajets that I saw posted on a previous thread from Cliff at Cliffs high performance. John S
  7. Made adjustment to secondaries. Original setting was one turn clockwise from zero tension. Tried backing off 1/2 turn made it worse. Tightened screw 1/2 turn more from original I could feel the added tension. That took away about 90% of hesitation. Now a very slight hesitation then it takes off. May try going a little tighter but don't want to go too far, if you can go too tight. May also be problem with accel. pump or float level, but that will be for another time. Right now the adjustment made a HUGE difference. I was wondering do the secondaries open slowly or do they snap open? John S
  8. After reading up on the quadrajet I believe it is the secondary spring that needs adj. It will be trial and error but I believe that will solve it. Also I watched a video on it. John S
  9. Thanks. I'll give them a call. I am not knowledgeable on how ethanol fuel affects these carbs. I know the carb was rebuilt with new bushings and internals. If Cliffs works with them on a daily basis I'm sure he may have an answer. Again thanks. John S
  10. I'm hoping someone can help me. I have 70 350/300 with Carter Quadrajet carb #7040203 correct carb for eng. with 350/300 w/4spd. If I gradually floor it I have a slight hesitation. If I hit it hard the car stumbles then takes off. The eng idles great runs excellent at all speeds and the tailpipes burn clean but stumbles on accel. When I move the throttle I can see gas squirting in the primaries. I know these carbs are vacuum secondaries but is there an adjustment on these. In the late 70,s I had a 327 with a Carter AVS that had an adjustment screw to adjust secondaries and I could get it right by increasing or decreasing spring tension. I can see that there appears to be only two holes you can put the pump rod into for adjustment, mine is in the outer hole. I do not know if secondaries are adjustable. If it is the proper carb for the eng it should function correctly. The carb has been rebuilt less than a year ago. I have good vacuum at idle so I am confident there are no leaks. If there is something I can adjust please let me know. I don't want some bonehead in a Honda Civic "chainsaw" car pulling away from me. I like to drive the car the way it was meant to drive which means stepping on it fro0m time to time. John S
  11. I found a pair of NOS tips. Paid thru the nose for them but you can't take it with you when gone. Right? I guess you can take them with you but you can't use them. John S
  12. Hate to beat a dead horse but I have a simple yes or no question. Is it acceptable to use Valvoline VR 1 20W- 50 conventional in my stock 300hp 350? John S
  13. Did you run the VR 1 oil in the blue 4 spd you sold ? If you did was it 20W-50 or 10W-30? John S
  14. I think to the support above steering column.
  15. When my bucket seats were recovered with new foam and padding I had the same problem, I am 6'1". I plan on doing the same thing Murphy did, I just have not got around to it yet. I think with the track extenders you may have to cut carpet and if the carpet is new that might not be the best option, at least for me it's not. John S
  16. Sometimes the printed circuit will burn going to the Amp. gauge, after all they are just thin copper. Sometimes a person will hook up jumper wires from the harness to the gauge and bypass the printed circuit. I did that to my Monte in 1980 so I would not have to replace printed circuit. John S
  17. I installed console in my 4 speed earlier this year. I love the look I think you will too. It adds a nice touch to it. John S
  18. According to chevellestuff.net CRN is the suffix code for 1970 454 360 HP with 400 trans specific to Monte Carlo only. John S
  19. A while back I got the math formula from you to determine rpm at a certain speed and I also saw the same formula in Hemmings Muscle Car. I tend to believe the formula is accurate would you agree? John S
  20. I had a 1966 Impala SS that had the build sheet there. John S
  21. I am going to go with Gardner myself. I am going to get the same tail pipes, 69 Chevelle and tips as Sam. It will be a little over 1K. I printed off pictures of the underside of Sam's car. The system is excellent as far as I'm concerned and it looked to fit perfectly. John S
  22. That is not a bad price on the 12 bolt considering what is done to it. I replaced my 12 bolt because I found a code and date correct rear end. I paid 1300.00 for the rear end then had it rebuilt. I probably have too much in it but I am a purist, I like original. John S
  23. Thanks Dennis your photobucket pictures of your interior when you replaced the carpet were very helpful.
  24. Finally got it done. Came out quite nice I like it . First picture is before. John S
