i tried another yoke to see what happens and it does the same thing, it will only slide in about half way. I took a piece of rod and stuck it in the tail of the trans and rode up and down to see if i felt a burr or any other obstruction on the tail shaft, but i didn't feel anything out of the ordinary. then i went around in circles with the rod inside the tail of the trans to see if there was something obstructing around the outer edges, but again i didnt feel anything. it has the course spline yoke and tailshaft. its not like a th350. this trans does not have a little end cone to take off and view just the tailshaft area. anyone ever heard of this? and oh lord why me??? why me!!!??!??

T-10 4 spd transmission (not super t10) The yoke slides in and stops about 60% down. A long time ago when i was measuring to shorten my driveshaft, I thought this must be normal. Since then I've driven very little and very lightly, because I know my driveshaft is too short... I wanted to get a new driveshaft and before I do that I'm investigating about this yoke issue first. Now I've shown the yoke to a driveshaft professional and showed him the point at which the yoke is in the tail as far as it will go and he says thats just not far enough. My current yoke is wearing a notch in itself from the bushing because its not riding right. So what could be causing this oddity? He gave me another yoke to try but my mind is working overtime, maybe this transmission takes some weird rare yoke or something. i'm such a pessimist. He said the yoke should slide in almost to the end of it. Any help appreciated. I need to get busy if this car is going to make it to the 10th anniversary FGMCC meet. And if you're wondering why I dont just ask these questions to the so-called driveshaft expert, its because you have to tread so lightly around this guy, he's old and cranky and he'll get mad and bite your head of if you're not careful... but he's the best around with driveshafts so I'm just trying to get the most info as I can from you guys so I can learn up on the subject. Please help!

shoulder harness ... how mounted to roll bar ?
Kevin Wiles replied to Kevin Wiles's topic in Modifiers
ian for the shoulder belt mine has some sort of buckle on it too (but i think thats just to adjust the length), but it also has the thick steel end that i assume is supposed to be bolted down. i had planned on drilling a hole all the way through the cross bar and i bought grade 8 bolts and nuts and washers ready to go but then i started having second thoughts and thought i better ask -
shoulder harness ... how mounted to roll bar ?
Kevin Wiles replied to Kevin Wiles's topic in Modifiers
also the belt that goes between the legs, where would you mount that? all thats down there is simply just sheet metal. bolt through and use a large washer? -
i'm finally getting around to installing seat belts in the coke machine, i'm using tci racing harness. searching the internet, i am reading that some people are wrapping the shoulder belt around the rollbar's cross bar, not sure how they're bolting it down though. i just don't understand. does anyone have pics? diagrams? all you out there with a roll bar and racing harness, how did you install? should i bolt through the bar or install tabs to bolt it into? etc. etc. For some reason also i've ended up with one harness with a y-shoulder belt (2 belts into one) and one thats two separate pieces all the way out to the single end. but both my seats have the single center hole for the shoulder belt i think..... so how should i proceed?

This is on the coke machine it has a 427 with a T-10 4 spd trans, 12 bolt rear. Long ago, when i installed the trans, I noticed the driveshaft needed to be shortened. Somewhere along the measuring process , years ago when i did this, i made an error in judgement/calculation. I have known this ever since and havent done anything about it, but I have never romped down on the car in fear of pole vaulting The yoke just looked like it had an abnormal amount of length still sticking out. To make a long story short, I only have about 1.25 to 1.5 inches worth of total spline contact at the transmission including the half inch of splines that stick out of the tailshaft of the trans. I've been told 2 inches is the minimum. I may have used too much "pull out" when measuring to prevent bottoming out. In other words, I stuck the yoke in until it stopped, then backed out to prevent it from jamming under suspension load, but I pulled out too far. (??) I currently have about 1.25 to 1.5 inches of room before it bottoms out. But I have read that 0.5 to 0.75 is plenty of space. and I have been told that you want at least 2 inches of total spline contact. (again, only have 1.25 to 1.5 now) Would anyone agree that this is sufficient? I would think not. do i need to shorten another driveshaft, extend this one (probably not) or by some miracle find a slip yoke thats 0.75 to 1.00 inches longer??

i'm looking in the manual and it says one goes to the vacuum advance unit on the dist, and the other two go to the carb....... for the two that go to the carb it says one is for manifold vacuum and one is for clean air vent. but i'm confused as to where exactly it goes.... i'll tell you this: the little hose has a brass looking fitting stuck in the end of it.
-
i was just thinking.. maybe it goes to the trans vaccum hose? I dont see it but maybe it fell down beneath.
-
on the TCS system, I have: A little vac hose coming out of the front that goes to an inlet in the front of the carb Another vac hose coming straight out of the back of it that goes into the distributor And there is one more vac hose that comes out of the SIDE of the unit and I have no clue where this one goes.... anybody know? IF it goes to the carb, please explain exactly where on it because I thought I looked everywhere.

my 70 had black with aqua before i painted it and you could tell it was factory.

i'm confused. i have the 10 bolt rear...., mike57 is offering me 12 bolt arms....... so that works perfect right? the reinforcement plate you're talking about is made into the 12 bolts upper control arms correct? plus the 12 bolts upper control arms have extra clearance.... so 12 bolt uppers on a 10 bolt seems like a go. am I right? thanks, kevin
-
so a 12 bolt will fit a 10 bolt but not the other way around right?
-
look at this site, it says they're different http://www.leverfamilysite.com/Rear_Upper_10_12_bolt_Differences.htm
-
3 questions. Are they the same for 10 bolt or 12 bolt? I heard they are not the same. What other cars would interchange? (other than the obvious 68-72 a body) And does anyone have a set for sale? (10 bolt for now)

my 70 is missing the 2 prong connector for the tcs thingy between the 2 rear spark plugs on the passenger side. I'd like to find a connector and solder it onto my exising wires. I have a 72 wire harness that came out of what is now the coke machine but before i go dig that out of storage, did 72 even have tcs?

source for fabric wire sleeve and throttle rubber
Kevin Wiles replied to Kevin Wiles's topic in Restorers - Archive
i found the cloth wire sleeve on paddock -
my 70 350 auto/air car has a wire that goes along the drivers side inner fender. The wire is green and it is in a fabric-type sleeve. the sleeve is quite sloppy looking and is deteriated. Is there a source for this fabric wire sleeve? Also my throttle cable, where it clips into the bracket on the q-jet, that rubber piece. Where can I get one of those? Mine is cracked and falling apart

Kevin Wiles replied to Kevin Wiles's topic in Restorers - Archive
ok mine was mounted wrong, i wonder if it was mounted wrong for a good reason, like the detent cable is too long or too short. -

Is this the correct DETENT cable bracket for a 1970 350/300 quadrajet with TH350 trans...and if so how does it mount? click here this is the kind i have: http://www.parts123.com/parts123/yb.dll?parta~showpictxt~Z5Z5Z50000089c~Z5Z5Z5CAALP -
big jim, the gf432 has screw in's on both ends and plus one return exit so that one is not really a direct replacement. heres a pic

this all started really from needing inner fenders, mine were cracked very badly. transmission still skips second gear just as pretty as you please. lets see how many more years it lasts like that. jared i had no idea you had so many pics. -
on a 1970 350/300 Ok I’m NOT talking about the filter that mounts inside the carb, I’m talking about the big tin can looking filter that is mounted on the metal line beween the pump and the carb, sort of behind the alternator. O’Reilly Auto parts has no such listing as a filter like this for my car. I’m pretty sure its stock but wanted to check here. I need any information on this filter. Thanks.
