Rob Peters replied to Canuck's topic in General 70-72 Monte Carlo Forum
That guy really gets around to a lot of cruises and shows in a lot of different areas. rob -
Oh Yeah, welcome aboard the boards. We hope you like what you see here and decide to become a full fledged dues paying member of the club and congratulations on your new purchase. rob

I have many memories from my current 70 Monte, and my original 70 Monte I purchased new from a Chevrolet dealer in Jacksonville, FL but one of my most memorable 70 Monte memories is this: When I purchased my original Monte Carlo, I had a date that Saturday night and wanted to pick up my date in my New Monte. I was bummed out when the dealer said it had to go through the dealer prep. The salesman said "it is the end of the day, just take the Demo that you did your test drive in". So I picked up my date in that Demo 70 Monte Carlo and on our way to a dinner and movie I stopped for a light and we heard the screeching of tires trying to come to a stop and then we heard the sickening crunch of metal on metal and then the Monte jump forward after a big Cadillac slammed into the rear of the dealers demo 70 Monte. rob

For those of us South of the border, How much is that in real money? I am guessing just over $1.25USD each. rob -
Here is the breakdown of your trim tag codes: 72 = 1972 13857 = Chevrolet Monte Carlo Coupe L = Van Nuy's California Assembly Plant 04207 = Body Number - Not to be confused with the cars VIN 708 = Black Vinyl Interior A52 = Front Bench Seat 68 = Midnight Bronze Body Color B = Black Vinyl Top 02 E = 02= February E = The 5th Week So it was built February 27th or 28th 563764 020915 = Data Processing Codes rob

Just a note regarding Ron's above post.. when Ron said "Rob Peters is in charge of this" he was only referring to arranging the hotel, Ron is doing all of the other planning and deserves the credit.... or blame 🙂 rob

Aaron, thanks for organizing this event sharing the pictures, it looks like you had great weather. rob -
Just one addition to my original statement. When I said MOST 70's had the FULL Halo is a true statement. Some assembly lines, part way through the production year, were running out of the Full Halo trim and started using the 71/72 Halo trim that ran all the way to the windshield. The majority of the people here are aware of this but some newer members may not know. Also, you will see on Facebook Monte groups and sometime here on this site that the Full Halo was an early 70 only thing but we do know that is not true. My car was born in the Baltimore plant in the third week of June in 1970 and it has the Full Halo. Being born in the third week of June means it was just days from the shutdown of the assembly line for 70 Monte's and start of production of the 71 Monte's. One other misconception you will see on Facebook Monte groups is people saying the chrome strip on the bottom of 1970 Monte front fender extensions (below the headlights) was an early 70 only item. Again, this is not true because my Monte also was born with these trim pieces. rob

I may not be understanding your post. Just a note, First Gen Monte's have Halo and FULL Halo trim design's. Full halo would be on the majority of the 70 Monte's. The Full Halo would be the one that the trim for the vinyl room is a complete loop with the the front vinyl trim curving and continuing across the front, just short of the windshield trim and leaving about 1 inch of body color showing all the way around the outside of the trim. Some 70's and all of the 72/72's with vinyl roof's had the Halo where the vinyl trim left about 1 inch space of body color between the vinyl trim the upper drip rail trim also behind the 1/4 window and the vinyl trim ended at the windshield trim. I am wondering if what they mean is they say "only offer halo top vinyls" is that they only offer the 71/72 style. If that is the case their vinyl would work on the 70 also with trimming the front edge for the Full Vinyl trim. rob

Glad they figured it out. Was going to say just in time for the cooler Temps that are hitting us but with you in Florida there is plenty of warmth, heat left to enjoy the AC. rob -
What did you do to your Monte Carlo today?
Rob Peters replied to Canuck's topic in General 70-72 Monte Carlo Forum
Yeah, I know, it is only 3 inches tall and it is only cheap plastic, yeah it doesn't even hold enough liquid to be used as a shot glass and yes they were just set up on the DJ's table for anyone to grab and no it was not a legit award but I didn't lie, I DID come it home with this trophy. rob -

Bite your tongue.... on that "snow blower" comment rob

I agree, if the "Buy It Now" price is the same as the "Reserve" price, that would be at about an SS price. I suspect he is trying to get out of it either what he paid for it or what it cost him to restore it. I think we all would agree that you would rarely be able to sell a car for what you put into it. But, that said, who knows, there may be someone out there who owned one just like it back in the day and will see it had just have to have it. rob

Should I repaint to the factory color?
Rob Peters replied to 1970Monte's topic in General 70-72 Monte Carlo Forum
If you want it to be all original and matching the trim tag then by all means go with the green mist. If you want an original 70 color go that route. Originality is only more valuable to someone seeking a completely original "matching" car. I am one of those people. Bottom line is that it is your car and you should equip it and make it your own. If you are doing it with selling or flipping it for a profit that is hard to do because you will never get out of it what you put into it. rob -
That wasn't my thing. rob

Uh-Oh, I see a need to bring back the dancing banana's for you. rob

Cute Mark but I wouldn't be caught dead wearing a watermelon. Unlike Dennis being in lobe with banana's I don't do Watermelon. You see, my aversion to watermelons dates back to when I was a kid. You see, our next door neighbor was backing out of his driveway and ran over a young neighbor girl with one of the back tires of his car. We heard her screaming and ran outside to see her throwing up what at first we thought was blood. In reality she had been enjoying a water melon shortly before the accident and that was what we saw her throwing up. Where the neighbor ran over her (this was when I lived in Jacksonville, Florida) she had been playing in an area of very soft sand and the sand cushioned her and other than some bruising she was not harmed. Ever since I saw this I have just not had any desire to eat water melon. Yes, my hair and beard is gray but it is not nearly that thick. Gladly there are no dancing water melon emoji's rob

If you want to check out something interesting, check out the 18th picture, the one of the red Oldsmobile. It has a hood latch assembly like I had never noticed on any other car. It is a little hard to make out, especially if you are using your phone, but check out the stock set up of the hood latch system. Rather than the pin being mounted on the hood and the latch being mounted on the core support the stock set up on this car has two pins mounted onto the core support and the latching mechanism, including the safety latch mounted to the hood as one piece. The spring loaded latch release has a square bar that extends from the center of the hood out and is aligned with each of the core support pins. rob

Yesterday I attended a car show sponsored by a Boy Scout Troup. It was a beautiful day and a great birthday. I didn't get pictures of all of the cars, maybe only about 1/4 of them rob I was the only 1st Gen Monte there but not the only Monte, I think I counted maybe 4 Monte's I frequently see Grand Spurts at local shows and never seen one that disappoints, this one is not exception This Camero RS 454 won Best of show. It truly deserved it!! This is one of maybe 6 Chevelles/Malibu's in attendance I think the owner of this 55 Chevy lives at car cruises/shows. I see this car at almost every one I attend. This is a car you won't see at every car show/cruise. A Chevy Monza Spyder. They were known as a high performance sports car with beefed up suspension and V-8 engines
