  1. I have been scouring the web for another shot of the 70 hood, but they all have spears. You guys are right...Agreed, a Pre-production Monte. Too bad, I was hoping there was yet another unsung rarity to watch for; "The Spearless Hood!" (NOT!) πŸ˜‚πŸ€£ Jeff
  2. Found another pic...no spear.
  3. What's missing? Here is a press release photo of the NEW 1970 Monte Carlo from GM and ran in the Evening paper on Aug.25, 1969. Whats missing? The hood spear! Did GM finalize their decision late in the game to add the spear to the assembly line? Or did they think no watchful eyes would scour these photos some 50 years later and see they perhaps used an older pre-production photo? I'm hoping someone here can share their knowledge or has other 1970 press photos showing the hood (spear, or no spear?) I also see the lack of chrome trim under the headlights; were they installed on all 70 Montes, or simply an option? "SPEAR-MONT" wasn't that a flavor of chewing gum?β˜οΈπŸ™„ Jeff 1970 Monte SS454
  4. LOVE that dual snorkel! My buddy offered me one just last week .... but It was just too beat / pitted so no help to me πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ Yours Looks GREAT!
  5. Ya true! But then I'd need to find a 1970 interior for my 71 πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ *Btw, in 1987 my Monte #2 was a 71 SS with a 70 interior and a 70 grille, lol
  6. Glen, You are correct sir! The interior is original but car was painted black. I originally had plans to switch interior over to black, but I'm actually digging this color combo! My grille preference is 1971, and also a 71 hood spear. I kept the 70 grille and everything can easily change back if I ever grew tired of it (unlikely) I also added the tail light grilles trunk emblem and original upper hockey sticks, etc to appear as a 1971 from the back. The interior is all 1970. Jeff 1970-71 SS454
  7. If driving our Monte Carlos gives us Superhero status (makes us cool 😎) what takes it away? What else are you driving? For me, the differences are from one extreme to the other. The Monte has a loooong front end and tiny back end. My work Cargo van has NO front end and a long train behind it. Lets see Greg Brady knock over an egg with either! 8. I'd be Hip to that.. It was quite a trip! Jeff 1970 SS454
  9. Yes! I looked out window at the right moment!
  10. Here I am ready for my long drive home! Check out that ominous puddle under front of car! That's not a/c runoff! Its called a waterpump leak and introduced itself not 30 minutes into my drive! Story for an upcoming post! Jeff 1970 SS454
  11. Yes, I thought the same thing! They are white!
  12. A few years ago I bought another SS in the South. I flew in to pick it up and drive back home (18 hours in a Big block!)πŸ‘πŸ˜Ž At one point I looked out the plane window and saw two buildings in the perfect shape of "SS" Freaky! ...I was also 55 yrs old, so maybe it was a "55?" To me it was a pair of Esses! Either way, I thought I'd share this cool SS moment! Jeff 1970 "55" 454 😁
  13. Yes, they continue to tease about it's inevitable appearance ("coming soon") but never to be! Jeff 1970 SS454
  14. Man oh man! Please post those! Would love to see all that! (Or at least some!) Jeff
  15. Do tell! That's one hot _SS! Jeff
  16. Haha! 350 had just 2 barrels for those monkeys!
  17. Did they say this for real? https://youtu.be/cYGYqpjL8bA Fifty years ago they could get away with saying something like this. It sounds innocent enough because a woman is speaking. At 4:22 "Like a woman with the rare combination of beauty and brains..." Did she just say that sexist (funny) remark? Yikes! My wife just slapped ME for what SHE said πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ Cool film regardleSS! Jeff 1970 SS454 Black
  18. Yeah, coincidences happen! 😎
  19. I removed the base and there's no part number. The paint also matches the SS rear quarter extension, so it must be. You guys saying it looks right makes me believe it's the real deal. Thanks for all the great input! Last pic...Just so happened to take those screenshots at 4:54! Destiny! LOL that's kind of freaky! Jeff 1970 SS454 Black
  20. I now agree with those who call it a bad mold *(or Bad Cast, much like Saturday Night Live from the late 80's!)
  21. Why'd it burn? I heard stories, from an electrical short (by "Willie's Auto Lektrik") πŸ”₯πŸ’₯ to a jealous person tossing a cig into the open window! Never did find out, but that Willie sure got out of business quickly! 😏
  22. My buddy had a Monte which burned in 1988 😲. Prior to it burning, this was an excellent car. Very straight body with beautiful paint and a flawless vinyl top! All of the chrome was replaced NEW from GM when the car was painted! I bought it as salvage from the insurance company and it ended up becoming my Monte (number 4.) I spent many hours on this car; Sandblasting, cleaning and prepping the metal for a repaint. I used zinc chromate primer (*advised by a body shop) From my parts hoard, I replaced the steering column, carpeting, quarter window glass and dash, the wiring harness, kick panels and vents, etc. I ended up selling the car in 1989 when I shelved it for a while after pulling the motor. (I never did finish it... lost my steam!) *My Dad said that's when I discovered GIRLS! πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈπŸ€Έβ€β™‚οΈπŸ˜œ Jeff 1970 SS454
  23. I wonder if just the early 1970s had the notch? Anyone know? (Canuck chime in?)
  24. Found a pair on Ebay just now.... Original 70...Notched ☝️
  25. My goodness! All that Monte goodness! Hands down the most! Lock me in there for a week, but don't check me pockets on me way out!πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ˜Ž
