Rob I will not be able to come. I wanted to bring a friend, and split the cost. Too much money for me.

Yes that is what I'm looking for.

Today I tried putting springs inside the hood springs. Hood will stay up without the prop rod. although if doing any real work I'll still use it. Happy with the results. Attached 3 pictures with hood all the way up and closed to the point that it will still stay up.

My 1970 Monte has a bench seat. I would like to get a bench seat center console in black. Does anyone have a recommendation? Thanks Wayne.

I read the GM instructions for my ac compressor and they recommended changing the accumulator and the expansion valve. So I ordered everything including the proper pag oil. My Daughter's boyfriend who is a auto mechanic is going to help me in the spring to get everything done properly.

Didn't see that in the background

Thanks for all the info. I think I will leave the old one in there and wait for warmer weather so I don't disturb the lines and get moisture in the system. Thanks Wayne

I have the large original type of compressor. My Daughters boy friend is an auto mechanic and has all the equipment. I was just wondering if I could mount the compressor ahead of time with the belt on and still run the car without using the ac. The instructions talk about oil in the compressor. don't want to screw that up. I would just like to have it ready. I'm a toolmaker and I like to take my time. He works too fast for me. I don't know if there is any refrigerant in the system now. Also last season the power to the compressor was intermitent (I can't spell) ha ha.

I just started reading putting oil in the new compressor need some advice
-
The guy who had the car before me converted it to R134

I needed a new compressor because it was leaking oil around the pulley clutch area. I was told that if it was leaking oil,it was also leaking refrigerate. I didn't want to buy it now but the price kept going up. So I got it from Summit.I know I won't have any trouble mounting it. But I don't know about adding the right oil. Could anyone recommend the best you tube video to get everything done right. I probably won't put it in until May, but can start planning it out

The only hood I ever removed was on my 67 Impala to change the engine. That hood was a lot lighter and I had to remove it.
-
This whole spring thing sounds pretty risky. there is no way I'm going to remove my hood the hinges have no side play and my paint job is perfect, don't want to risk chipping it. I may try the spring inside the spring and the prop rod that I made is long enough to keep the hood open max. no chance of wind knocking it out. thanks for all the input. Wayne

My hood springs won't hold the hood up. anyone know how to change these safely? I tried to take one off with vise grips on it and couldn't even stretch it out at all. Thanks Wayne

Here are some pic's of my rocker panel mounting clips. As a I have said in previous posts, I have no trim holes in my car at all. I need to know where to drill the holes vertically and the diameter of the holes. In the horizontal direction, not so important, as I can evenly space them because they will slide back & forth. Thanks for any advise. Wayne

12 bolt rear axle brake backing plates
Whons replied to 420ponies's topic in General 70-72 Monte Carlo Forum
I have a 12 bolt posi in my 70 Monte and have left the rear drum brakes. I had to put a rotary vane vacuum pump because of a more radical camshaft. Car stops fine. -
Thanks everyone for your input 👍. I think I'm on the right track. I will machine up a drill jig like I mentioned. Thanks Wayne.
-
In your picture your lower door trim looks like it's up a little bit from the bottom of the door. And the rocker panel trim looks flush with the top of the rocker panel. Should I put the rocker panel trim on first then the 2 small trim in front and back of the door, then the lower door trim I will still machine a drill jig to locate the holes on the door.
-
On my 70 Monte Carlo should the lower door trim molding be flush with the bottom of the door, or be slightly above due to the radius on the bottom of the door edge? The trim is 2" wide with the studs on the center of the trim. I was thinking of milling a drill jig with a step to hold against the bottom of the door having a hole to spot drill located 1.06" from the step this would locate the bottom of the trim . 06" up from the bottom of the door. I have no holes in the door. The holes on each end will be for the threaded studs and the other holes will be. 500" and the oblong studs will press in tight.

Here's my front trim piece with the reflector to take the place of the side marker lights. will be doing red for the rear quarter panel trim. I have a question. For the door molding strips should I make them flush with the bottom of the door, or have them up slightly because of the radius on the bottom edge of door? The door strips are just over 2" wide with the studs in the middle. I was thinking of making a drill jig with a 90^ lip and a guide hole 1.06 up from the bottom of the lip and hold it against the bottom of the door for spotting each hole. That would put the bottom of the trim .06 above the bottom of the door. Good Idea? Send me some feedback. Thanks, Wayne

Thanks everyone. I like the laying of the tape on the car along the top of the trim and measuring down. I'm also going to call where I bought the trim and ask them to send me more of the plastic dovetail pieces. They didn't send me enough.
-
I'm thinking just silicone in case I ever need to remove the door trim without ruining it. Thanks for all the info. does anyone have a template or dimensions for the little triangular clips for the rear quarter panel. Those will be the hardest to get in the right position.
-
On the small strips they didn't make the cutout long enough to get the dovetail piece in. I will have to cut that a little longer. For the oval shaped studs I've determined they will press into a .500 dia. hole. Should I put something on them like JB Weld or just silicone?
-
I have no holes in the rear quarter panel, or any for that manner. Might be kind of tough to locate and drill for those triangle ones on the rear quarter panel. There are lower holes in that rear trim at the bottom. The ones with the dovetail that slide into the side strips, how many should be in the door strip? The other 2 short strips one in the front looks like it only needs 2. and the rear one only needs 1 because the rear has a 90^ bend that screws into the fender. What are the ones with the wire piece for? Front panel is easy, it has 4 studs and I made a template for that.

Hello, I have all my 10 piece lower trim molding. And have a picture of the clips & how many of each type. The straight strips I know to use, but that would leave only 3 for each door, doesn't seem like enough. Then have 6 little clips that I don't know how they are used. Please advise. Thanks, Wayne
