yeah, I bought all the lower trim new from CarsInk . I bought the 10 pc trim kit. and got the rocker panel trim new on Ebay. I'll be putting it on in the spring. The car will look brand new. There was never any rust at all anywhere on this car. The guy I bought it from welded in the side marker holes, you can't even tell, the paint is so great. I'm going to put orange & red translucent acrylic with tin foil behind the front and rear trim pieces. with silicone. So at least they will be reflective. -

Love that color blue. I had a 1967 Impala about the same blue. Now I have a 1970 Monte Carlo in dark metallic cherry. My Monte has 2" Drop spindles on the front with an air ride system. -
There are a lot of 1970 Monte Carlos made by Johnny Lightning on Ebay. I just bought one. It's just as good as a Hot wheels.

The oval stud is hollow on the back, so that won't work.. I'll go with the . 500 hole and put some silicone and press it in. It's pretty snug in a .500 hole.
-
I found out that a .500 hole fits snugly on the oblong plastic stud. Will save me a lot of filing.
-
I'm sure mine is all hooked up properly since I had a transmission guy work on it. It goes into overdrive properly. I've put 1000 miles on it since the shift kit and all the springs and weights were adjusted in the valve body.

Well thanks everyone. I'm a retired machinist tool maker. I could try 1 hole in some scrap sheet metal. Or I could drill a smaller hole and hand file the slot. Very time consuming but I know I could do it.

I got the lower trim for my 70 Monte. the plastic clips for the doors and in front and back of the doors have an oblong stud which would have to snap into a close fitting slot. I have no holes in the car at all. Doe's anyone know if they make these clips with a round stud for a drilled hole. Please advise. Wayne

I have a 700R4 transmission in my 70 Monte Carlo. they will bolt up to a SBC. You will have to cut and weld the drive shaft to make it shorter, then have it balanced. Depending on your carb. you will have to get a special linkage arm that attaches to the throttle linkage arm. all carbs use a different arm. The shifting is controlled by a Throttle Valve cable. The adjustment of this cable is very critical. It shifts by MPH. From 1st to 2nd at 15 -20 mph 2nd to3rd at 25 to 30 mph and 40 to 45 mph which is overdrive. This may very a little, but has to be close. Remember I'm the guy that hired the Lemon Squad and lied about doing a road test. My transmission was good but not set up properly. I had to take it in to a special shop that new how to do all this. They ended up putting a new shift kit and put different springs and weights in the valve body. The guy who did this owns a 70 Monte. This cost me about $800. Now its great. I get 11 mpg city and 18 mpg highway. pretty good for an engine with 420 HP. It chirps the tires from 1st to 2nd. I did a lot of research on this.

Put the new grille emblem on my 70 Monte yesterday. Looks great 👍

Glad I joined this club. Wayne

I know this doesn't relate to Monte Carlos, But I had a 1967 Impala that I changed the gear box to a quicker lock to lock ratio. the 70 to 72 has to be the easiest gear box to change, being located so far forward on frame.

Yes, it is. I found a new one for a 1970 on Ebay for $82.00, so I bought it. You can't find one that reasonable on any restoration web site. It is amazing the little different variant changes between years.

thanks everyone for your input. Wayne

On my 70 Monte the front grille emblem is missing the top red piece. I see them on Ebay for about $80. then I see one for I think an 87 for about $40. They look the same. then I did some research and found some years had roman numbers, some had just little vertical lines. something the average person wouldn't even notice. They look the same size and color. Any comments on using one from a newer Monte?

What is the best treatment to protect a vinal top?
-
Yes I did everything myself except the shift kit and adjusting things in 700r4 transmission. I do have a problem with the ac compressor coming on. It has to be something electoral because I put a electric dashpot in the power wire leading to the compressor to push the throttle a little more at idle. And if the compressor is not on, then the dashpot is not on.

Thanks, I sent him a message

I don't know him

All those places that show online that they have them, they don't. The rocker panel trim I got new with clips on Ebay and they are the right length The Parts Place doesn't have them.

I'm looking for the lower body trim moldings for my 1970 Monte Carlo minus the rocker trim. I have ordered them from SS396.com and they get them from Original Parts Group. But they aren't available until June. If anyone knows where I can get them sooner please let me know. Thanks, Wayne

You are very lucky. I bought my 70 Monte last year, even hired the Lemon Squad to inspect it. they never road tested it. I was very blessed that it was a totally rust free car with excellent paint and vinal top. The engine had been rebuilt. I had a lot of brake work to do, including installing a vacuum pump for the brakes due to a radical camshaft, and a new shift kit for the 700r4 transmission. So, I'm not on good terms with the seller.
