  1. This may be a stupid question but how does a clutch fan actually work. I know there is a spring in it. My 71 Monte 350 engine has a 4 row brass radiator and a 160 degree thermostat. the temp gauge never goes above 180. How to actually test the fan?
  2. Excellent!!!
  3. Very nice 4 speed. I've driven them but never owned one. Maybe if I ever sell my 71 Monte and get something else.
  4. Thanks
  5. Hear is my solution for cup holders. plugs into the ash tray only when needed, with no alteration to the dash
  6. Looks great. the only problem I would have is that wiring for the dash. I'm pretty much a mechanical man. You have a great looking shop. I'm lucky I have my son inlaw's shop to use a lift whenever I need.
  7. Great shop
  8. Now I do remember the insert in the glove box portion of the console.
  9. Thank you very much. Gets my brain to start thinking. Never thought about the ashtray mount
  10. Hey anybody out there have any ideas for cup holders to go on the center console in front of the shifter?
  11. There's no comparison between the piston type and the rotory vane pump no noise at all.
  12. I had the same issue with my 1970 Monte. thats the car that I had the Lemon Squad inspect. The Inspector never road tested and lied on the inspection. I had to do the same thing, add a vacuum pump. The best pump is a Rotory Vane pump made by Leeds.
  13. They are the tallest valve covers I ever had. They were on the car when I got it last summer. I like the fact that they are thick, no bending like original sheet metal valve covers. No leaks.
  14. here's a picture of my oil sensor fitting. I kept the idiot light as well.
  15. Scott these were the long, one directional taper. From looking at other ones I think these are the best. They came with the 1/8" copper tubing.
  16. The seats are new black vinal. they were the closest to original that I could find (Ebay). I did buy the proper seat brackets. had to drill and tap a couple holes.
  17. I have also replaced my bench seat with bucket seats and center console shifter.
  18. Sctt , I tightened them until snug, then 1/4 turn. They both had a very slight leak. I tightened them a very little bit more and no no leaks. The fittings had a very nice taper on the feral.
  19. Thanks
  20. Yeah seems like there always a lot of Chevels and Cameros
  21. Thanks
  22. Went to a cruise night Friday. There was about 200 cars and my car was the only 1st generation monte carlo!
  23. I have Headman stainless headers on my 71 Monte. They come down on a short angle and have a ball and tapered fitting between the flanges. I still can use standard length spark plugs. I did have to modify some wrenches 🔧. Can't use a plug socket on all of them. I have a whole bunch of old wrenches for modifying. Pick them up at garage sales.
  24. Today I finished the installation of my oil pressure gauge with copper tubing. No leaks.
  25. Scott I have all the 1/8 pipe threads with sealant. Tomorrow I am going to use 1/8 copper tubing with the compression fittings. The fittings that came with the gauge are really nice. The under side is flat and the furrel has a flat and then a nice long taper. I know you don't need the sealant on those threads. What I would like to know is how much to tighten it once it's hand tight. Never used a compression fitting that small.
