I'm putting together my oil pressure gauge today. Using permatex high temperature thread sealant on the 1/8 pipe threads. Do I need to wait some time or can I run the engine right away?

Joe is right. you need clearance from the top of the gear tooth on the starter to root of the gear tooth on the fly wheel. a paper clip will do. If it's too tight you need to make shims that are the same shape as the mounting surface on the starter. I had to put a mini high torque starter on a car because the stock starter motor was too close to the headers. Had to make a few shims for that.

Where can you get led lights for the dash? do they twist in just like the old ones? can you get at most of them from the top with the dash pad removed? thanks, Wayne

Yes that's still a good method. I have one and have used it a lot for trailer lights.

Stupid me. I should have known that you can't get a voltage reading from one end of the fuse to the other. You have to go from one end to a ground. I took the fuse out and it tested good.

I should have said that when the headlights are on I don't read any volts across that little fuse.

thanks for all the info. I just verified the small fuse with an ohm meter and it looks good. But when I turn the headlights on I don't read any DC volts. doesn't make sense to me. I think the dimmer switch is the problem cause I can wiggle it a little the dash lights get a little brighter.

my 71 headlights work fine as do the high beams, but my dashboard lights are dim. They are the brightest just before you turn the switch counter clockwise to turn on the dome light. I think it's the headlight switch that's bad. Anyone know how to remove it and replace. I never took one out.

That copper tubing with those fittings is what I bought. Now I have to wait until my elbow heals from surgery to put it in.

Very nice looking all black. You guy's are right , it's never done . I wanted to put in an oil pressure gauge a while back but couldn't get the sensor loose. I never knew there was a special socket for that. Just things like that makes it great to be a member of this group.

My 1971 blue is not a stock color but I like it. It was repainted and had a new black vinyl top.

I had a 1967 Impala with rally wheels and I painted the rims dark argent gray. See the previous post about favorite colors.

I like a lot of colors, but I would say blue in different shades is my favorite. I had a 1981 Camaro that I bought new that was royal blue, a 1967 Impala and my current 1971 Monte Carlo. It has the best paint job of any of the classic colors that I've had.

I'll keep the old sending sensor to the idiot light because it still works. I'll figure out the fittings I need to tee off for the new sending unit. With the new fittings can I use Teflon tape and still have a good ground, or does a ground wire still needed from the new gauge?
