I had some stainless trim from the interior 1/4 panels from a deluxe interior 69 Camaro that I cut and put in the recessed portion of my armrest bases. I later found that OPGI has a listing for a trim that they claim was used on some Monte Carlos. I’m satisfied with what I came up with, so I’m not going to change it. It is similar to the trim on the sides of my console. Besides it’s probably another backorder item with them anyway. I’ve never seen any trim on the bases before. Does anyone have it? Was it part of a special trim option?

I wasn’t aware of that. Thanks for the info.

Just picked up a switch for mine because of an issue with the rheostat and my dash lights only. Paid a couple extra bucks for a GM part and still got Taiwan.

After getting it home, you then went and got a tetanus shot right?

Thanks for posting and keeping us updated. Glad you got it figured out.

Good choice -
Welcome, beautiful car. Great to hear from a new member. Becoming a member is a wise choice. This is THE place to be for help and info on these cars. I’m sure that your restoration has left you with plenty of knowledge to share also. More pics please.

What did you do to your Monte Carlo today?

I’ve seen the Argent silver In spray cans at the auto parts stores. Mainly for wheels. If you go with black, then definitely use satin or semi gloss. Flat is too hard to clean the bugs off. -
pic of rad support part # needed

I hear you. My main reason for retiring was that my job was getting in the way of all the work I still had to do. -
Looking great. Like the color. I’ve always been partial to blue. Looks like the 2 bottom photos have been cleared.

I’m with you on that. Only been a member since August but I find myself on the site every day looking for the latest posts. I’ll scroll through the archives not looking for anything in particular, but just to learn what I can about these cars. What’s cool about this group is that it’s not just about the cars, it’s about the members lives too. The banter shows how close the friendships are. The cars get the credit for bringing everyone together though.

A quick place to start looking for that build sheet would be behind the right front fender between the inner fender and firewall. That’s where I found mine just recently (Kansas City/Leeds Plant build also). Removing the 3/8 bolt at the bottom of the fender that helps secure the plastic inner fender behind the wheel will let you push in the inner fender to take a look. Glen had said that was one of the known places the Leeds plant put them.

I’ll do that. Thanks for the help

Wow! This is some pretty serious stuff. Should the club create another category just for these therapy sessions?
-
Great! Thanks, because that would have been the deal breaker. Would you have a recommended brand? Some of them(seems to be the cheaper ones) say no, and others don’t say anything at all.

Had some issues with my dash lights. I think it’s in the switch because when I play with the dimmer they’ll come on but not consistently. Im hoping that the 2 or 3 bulbs not lit are just burned out. While replacing the switch, I was thinking about going LED, if they’re dimmable. After reading these posts I’m having second thoughts. Since the last post was over 4 1/2 years ago, I’m wondering if anything has changed. Has anyone recently used them and are they now dimmable? Otherwise I’ll keep the 194s.

Not a bad looking hood scoop on this 72
Marks71 replied to DragCat's topic in Cars and Parts For Sale Leads
It looks like a good functional hood where everything has a purpose. There’s just a little too much going on for my taste. -
Went to a show with 3 friends about an hour away in Tehachapi called Thunder on the Mountain. They shut down part of the town for it. About 250 vehicles. Met a guy with another 71. He was aware of the club, in fact he used it for info during his restoration. Talked to him about becoming a dues paying member. We’ll see. Got caught in an unexpected downpour on the way home. Have seen the Camaro at a few large shows. Always takes home something. Always trailered.

Welcome Gary, great looking car, the big block is icing on the cake. There’s a lot of knowledgeable folks with a ton of info here and everyone looks forward to helping out. Well worth the price of admission.

Congratulations on the win. looking good!

You sure got a killer deal on that lift. I ended up with a 4 post a couple years ago. I realize they they take up a considerably more amount of space but I had the room. Mines a little overkill because it had to be physically large enough for my crew cab dually which got me a 14000lb lift. I have a caster kit also. Parking a vehicle on the lift almost makes up for the lost space. Being so close to the San Andreas fault out here in California, I would never leave it raised for car storage though. It is a rock solid lift. The photo makes it appear much larger in relation to my shop than it really is.

They’re definitely too high. Is the top of the panel seating tightly against the weather stripping as the photo of my 71 shows? Also the pull straps are in a different location. Your 70 is centered with the armrest base. Your new panels, like mine are closer to being centered with the armrest base and the tip of the latch handle.

Is the bottom of the panel even with the bottom of the door or is it too high also? Working from the edge of the panels how do the distances of the holes measure out in comparison to the original panels?

I think the Bilsteins were around $100 a piece. I’m probably going to leave the springs alone. It’s got just under 60k on the miles. I realize that it’s still been sitting on the original springs for 52 years though. But the car sits nice and level, even with a full tank with no side to side leans. The rear tires are 275/60 and the fronts are 225/70. I wouldn’t mind firming the ride a little. If gas shocks will do that then maybe that’s the direction I’ll go.
