Perfect, thank you.

Do I run hoses on both ports of the WP to the intake or is the one I have good enough and I can plug the other 2?
-
Yes I am going to do this for sure, just after I get this engine squared away
-
Thank you for the reply, yes I will look for shorter fittings, these are not going to work. I agree about the heater core but I want to keep it out of the equation when I start this engine for the first time, the car was sitting for the last 6 years or so and to my shame one year ish including a winter outside with the front clip off from a semi hasty engine/tranny removal. It was inside other than that but still that one year outside took its toll, I've had to replace a bunch of the exposed parts. The heater core was capped so it may be just fine, also the inside stayed pretty dry overall so idk. Either way I deemed that later problems lol.

Hey All, I think I am getting really close to firing this thing up and breaking it in, just going through some final things here and had a question about heater host routing. I am not planning to run heater hose to the heater core just because I don't know the condition of it and I will never need it or use it. At least for my purposes right now. Anyway what is the best/proper configuration of the heater hoses from the WP to the Intake and visa versa. Thanks!

Right on, that was the news I was hoping for!

As the title implies this good be really bad or a nothing burger I guess. Here's the story, went out to prime my 454 build, still yet to be broke in I am working on it hopefully this or next weekend I'll be ready. Anyway I put oil in it, put the tool down and engaged the oil pump no problem but then I'm an idiot and had the drill in counterclockwise rotation. So I spun it and all I heard was some kinda splashing or cavitation maybe but no pressure obviously. Then I removed my head from my third point of contact and I got tons of pressure and it builds immediately. So aside from my brain fart it went very well, no leaks or other issues. I don't have the knowledge or experience to know if running the oil pump backwards did anything or not. I would very much appreciate any advice has on this or am I worrying about nothing?

Hi all, I am curious about the need for an idle stop solenoid? I am going to run a new Holley 750 brawler with vacuum secondaries. I have an old 454 with a quadrajet that does run the stop solenoid and the assembly manual calls for it but I guess my question is with the upgrade would I need it? If so I think this is the bracket and solenoid I need: https://www.holley.com/products/fuel_systems/carburetor_components/brackets_and_linkage/parts/20-92 It's a shame the quads bracket doesn't work. Thanks!

That you all for the comments and suggestions, yes I think I will run a T and tap the sensor and the copper line from the back. I forgot to mention that I do have an aftermarket temp gauge as well that I was going to install in in the intake, but I believe it is mechanical or capillary tube style as it is fixed to the gauge. The location I have the temp sensor now is correct though right as far as the stock location goes?

Hi, Now I must preface the following questions and pictures with the fact I am an idiot and this is my first build. With that, curious about the opinions/recommendations on all of the following pictures and specifically regarding the oil sensor location, right ahead of the oil filter. I have a warning light car and I believe the location looks ok except the header clearance? Idk, I worry that is too close maybe I could put in a 90 and face it back? Also, I have an aftermarket mechanical gauge I want to tap in the front of the motor for, I will not utilize the plastic hose, nor the old copper line you see, I have a new copper kit coming, its just there for visual reference. Any issues with using that spot? Then finally, the assembly manual would lead me to believe this location in the side of the head would be the right spot for the temp sensor and the double lead I am holding that is the correct connector. Does that look correct? If I am mistaken or again recommendation one way or another, please let me know. I plan to use thread tape and all that good stuff, this stuff is just mocked up until I am confident in what is going on. Thanks again! P.S. If you see anything I didn't mention and feel compelled to throw it out there, by all means please do so!, I refer you back to my intro sentence.

This is built into the front lamp harness? I got an engine and front lamp harness from aww but I don't see what would be located inside now.
-
Oh really? Ok I'll have to look at that again. That is sweet though, thank you!! I'm glad I didn't buy one, damn thing is $50 buckS!

Hi All, Just got my wiring harness in from american auto wire that I am going to use for my 454 build and my question is regarding the horn relay. I have the old one from when the car was a 350 but it was also an old style alternator and points and I converted to an SI alternator and HEI. Maybe that is beside the point but I am ditching the voltage regulator but I still think I need the horn relay right? If so should I just spring for a new one? If so where is a good source? Thanks!!

Hi All, Looking for a set of used side moldings and not at all cleaned up for my 70. I don't want it to clash with my old paint and other old trim. Also, the front valance I have is a little more hammered than I like but I don't want a brand new one. Maybe someone out there has a repository of old parts?? Thank you.

Title says it all. Bought it and did not need it, I'm an idiot and needed the ac delete rather than this. $70. Thanks,

Hi All, Just joined up here officially and wanted to share my Monte. It's a 70 I bought it back in 2016 as a 350 350 car, tore that out in 2018 for another project that I ended up selling. I am now neck deep in putting a 454/400 combo into it. I really appreciate all the help and advice so far as I have reached out on a variety of things I need help with. I anticipate much more solicitation on my part in the next few months lol as I have never gone through this process and to say I am nervous about installing and breaking in a freshly rebuilt flat tappet cam engine, would be the understatement of the century. Anyway I am just at a point now I have the trans put back together and can get it mated to the motor so I can get it in the car. I have a new engine and front lamp harnesses on order so I have time, a few weeks at least. Looking forward to conversing with and meeting more of you in the future. (First 4 pics are from 2018 when it was last a running car before I too the old 350/350 out. The rest are current(ish) progress/status and some other general beauty shots) Couple new guy questions if anyone could help- 1. I was thinking about using this stuff: https://www.rustoleum.com/product-catalog/consumer-brands/auto/truck-bed-and-undercoating/2-in-1-rust-reform-seal for all the front frame and what not now that I have the grease and grime off and it's down to the metal. The car is remarkably rust free other than some minor surface in a couple areas. My understanding is the car spent the majority of it's life in central WA where it is very arid most of the year. 2. Based on my body tag is my car just a two tone or is it supposed to have a vinyl top? The reason I am confused is I thought only the vinyl top cars got that extra trim above the windshield in 70. P.S. Ignore the mustang in the background lol.

Sounds good thank you!
-
Ok I will confirm but I believe that is the correct one. Thank you!
-
yes exactly. I think the wire from the harness down to the trans will be in the new engine wiring harness I have on order.
-
You are awesome thank you! Do you know a good source for the trans control wire assembly? I bought the bracket, switch and I have a new th400 engine harness on order so I should have the connector to the trans itself but I haven't been able to locate the wire assembly. My car was a 350/350 that I am changing to 454/400 so I need all the stuff to go with the new setup.
-
Does anyone know if this is the same setup for a 70 with a th400? Or is it a switch on the carb? I can't find an answer in the 70 assembly manual.
-
I did a little more research on the trans and it is out of a 70's truck, so I need a counterbore yoke 32 spline I believe. Also, just asking here, if the 400 sits further back and I need to get the driveshaft cut could I just buy the right yoke with a new UV joint and when I get the yoke end of the driveshaft cut and replaced with the new yoke and UV? Since the I am staying with my 12 bolt and have the pinion UV still I could reuse that whole end right?

Driveshaft and Yoke for a 454/400
curtish57 replied to curtish57's topic in Cars and Parts For Sale/Wanted
It's the stock 12 bolt rear end. Would you know where I could source the correct yoke to match the u joints you mentioned? -
Hi, I've posted a few times in the tech area and was advised this may be a good source to locate a yoke and possibly UV joint for my 70 monte that was a stock 350/350 car, that I am dropping a 454/400 in. I know now I need to cut the driveshaft down or buy a new one if that is more cost effective I am not experienced enough to know. So anyway I am looking for the yoke and maybe a driveshaft. Thanks!
