  1. Wow, Now that is some puck. You must have tire clearance issues. I have Moog Vari-rate springs, 275/60/15 on a 5" positive order rim. No rubbing issues no matter how much stuff I have in the trunk.
  2. My new to me 427BBC has my old "290" heads, milled dome forged pistons, new stainless valves, hardened exhaust seats installed ( unleaded 93 octane), has 9.7 to 1 compression. Has a nodular Steel crank(396), a 454 ,4 bolt block ,with all ARP bolts, Howard's hydraulic roller cam .... 567/578 lift, 276/282 duration . Has clevite P's in it. Weird, my heads are 96cc. I'd like to see you spend the extra money and get those hardened exhaust seats and stainless valves.cuts down on heat on seats.
  3. Wow!! Sounds like my small block! Always good to " warm" them up in winter. Just got my BBC 427 back and hope that it sounds like yours. What cam ? I'm running a Howard's hydraulic roller. I really do like these in Red.
  4. Welcome to the Club!! Looking good! We all know that it's a lot of hard work and money to keep these on the road. I had to install used rear tail panel .The drains are what I have on my Monte Carlo. Pretty simple, 2 repair drain plugs for plastic radiator's (AutoZone). Drill hole on ledge leading into back glass, about 1 1/2" from bottom radius, ,3install plugs, then I used 1/2" od 3/8" id to drain plug and ran them down to drain hole in trunk just behind rear tires ( down in trunk drop off). I just cut plugs so tubes go through. Here's a pictureT That's it. When you're ready to do it I can send you better from inside trunk.
  5. Thanks for this. Trying to keep it all stock looking even though I'm making it the way I want it. It's not a numbers matching car. So it's a how I want it to be. I'm going the after the Custom package. This has been a on going project from the start along time ago for me. Just like how these look lined up against the rest of our Monte Carlo's.
  6. I'm assuming we are using long pump on BBC motor? Also, where do I find the radiator shroud piece for a BBC for our cars? Just got my BBC 427 back from the shop. Now the fun begins with a bunch of packages shipped to the house!
  7. Sounds like frame horns are out of whack. That 39 1/8" measurement should be for rad. Support.
  8. I'm in for 2 also. Thanks!
  9. The citrus spray stuff Joe offered does the trick, may have to use a gasket scraper to get the worst off. It will loosen up that glue for sure. Check Eastwood products for it. Your car, I'd keep the vinyl top, that is what makes the car. It's like a good fitting tuxedo, don't over complicate it. The colors are off the chart ( with those wheels). Fix what needs to be done. May have remove headliner and cover up rust. There is a product called rust bullet I used on all my areas where I didn't want to sandblast. This stuff works great, seals out the rust and you can paint over it if need to. The reason you're top gave up the ghost is they never sealed up the top of these cars. If it was painted/sealed up on top, us guys with the vinyl top would still have it. I know it looks pretty bad, but we have all seen worse. If you're taking out the back window I have a great upgrade to keep that rear window from rotting out again. I'd take a good look at the area above the windshield, that's a good area for rust ( pin holes) to start.
  10. From one Marine to another ,Semper Fi Brother !! I got to drive a '71 for a shake down cruise for a customer we did a engine/ transmission rebuild on a Friday night in Emerald Isle just outside Camp Lejeune North Carolina back in '86. Talk about the girls liking it ( not the driver I guess) burnt Orange/ black top 350 hp sbc and chirping the tires on every shift. My first drive in a First Gen. Lovin' every minute of it!
  11. You are now the Goat! I thought it was cool to see all the old guys perform in front of the younger crowd. Music does not age for the people that listen to it, our bodies age is all. I listen to new metal as I do old metal, still the same vibe to me. You name it, I've heard it, all good to my ears. Good to see they all want to get together and jam. Political..... Maybe.... Saving face.... Definitely!
  12. Mine is an old Mr .Gasket style Canister ,mounted on the left inner fender.Black Crinkle finish. I know Summit carries what you want.
  13. Now that's a good one. Must be fun to be retired. Is this what I have to look forward to! My wife is going to Love me!!
  14. Anyone know what those wheels are? I think they would look good on my Monte.

For $400 less I like it!! I'm really thinking about adding this to the "Custom"
  16. I've been running these lights for 2 years, bright, doesn't harm other drivers coming at you. They use these in older Porsches for the states, look euro. Plug and play.
  17. Now I'm really wanting my Monte Red! Nice Monte to "Cruise", that is what I like about the 1st Gen , High Performance Cruiser. Big Block too boot. Poor man' s Cadillac..... Where did I hear that before?
  18. Well, Hoping to get to this meet with out any issues regarding my ignition switch. It will all be new behind the dash and column this year. I'm also praying that we have NO RAIN !! That weekend. You don't want to see me dance.
  19. We had 14" of the stuff, had to work and watch it pile up. About 3 hrs with snow blower. About 2" an hr for 3 hrs then 1" an hr until sun up. Another 4" today, just got inside. By the way dash is inside car, ready to tackle wiring next. Been so long I'm going to need some pictures of the process. Why didn't I take them when I removed it? I'm sure that I can do this, just got to take some time. and get it right. Adding courtesy lights too.
  20. 1st and foremost, Thank you for your service!! 2nd, Welcome to the FGMCC!! Best Damn $25 you'll ever spend. Ex - Marine here, Marine son just got out last year. Nice MONTE! It's pretty nice under that hood. Any questions about what to do next will be answered here. We like to spend other peoples money! Again, welcome to the club.
  21. Ground up 396 forum has a column rebuild in it. Might be helpful. Someone on the boards might chime in, did a detailed rebuild and thinking it was a column shift.
  22. Sweet!! While I was purchasing our new pool I realized we need one of these. Plans are in the works. Could be our Christmas present to us ( pre-order retirement).
  23. Didn't someone have '04 GTO seats in their Monte Carlo at let year's Mini -Meet? Black, looked Nice to me!
  24. Welcome!! If it's Monte Carlo stuff you have, this will be a place to let it go to a happy owner. My best memories of a corvette was in Michigan on I-94 blowing the doors off a '74 SD Trans Am at a 30 mph roll !! Both 4 spds , ours 400hp 355SBC 4:11 rear gears. We were over 120 and still ahead of the TransAm. It was a '68 corvette, ( a little modified).
  25. Dorman 31011 rag joint.
