I think the paint you may have used was SEMs brand. I used it on my dash and the rest of the hard parts. I used their bonding clear in the first few parts. I would not do that again. It made the paint lift easy.... Ian ------------------ http://web.tampabay.rr.com/iann/monte.html

When I changed my interior to black, I used a paint from SEMS if I recall. I used it on all the soft parts, I.E. the dash, door panels, etc. It turned out great. I do not recommend using the bonding clear the sell to spray under it. I used it on some of the first few parts I sprayed, and it the black lifts off in places. The stuff I just put the paint on held up great. I will see if I can dig up a can of it if you want the part number. That is why I changed everything to black, I got tired of trying to match the original 4 -5 colors Ian ------------------ http://web.tampabay.rr.com/iann/monte.html

The part I don't get is that after I tried the electric replacement one, we put the original one back on and it worked. Then the next day I needed to use it and it did not work So I think the switch is fine, but I have a intermittent working pump... The lines seem fine, I can blow thru them and get bubbles in the washer fluid tank... Ian

I have been having problems with the washer pump, so I tried to get a new one from Auto zone. The only thing they have is a electric pump that mounts in the original place. It looks like the stock one, but does not work I then had my wife go to NAPA to get one, same thing. Does anyone know where to get the original mechanical type pump these days? to Carl Hanson and others about welding
Ian replied to Kevin Wiles's topic in Auto Body Repair - Archive
That is the welder I have and we used it to install the roll cage in the Olds, so i would think it would do for welding sheetmetal. I would say get the conversion kit to do gas welding. The flux core is a pain to use and if you are tacking stuff to have someone else finish welding it for you, it makes it hard for them to weld over as it is not as clean of a weld as the gas weld. I do believe that most (if not all) of the restoration companies get their covers from the same supplier. I also got mine from CARS. I went for the cloth orginal ones. They are great quality and fit the seats great. I have not gotten to put the fronts on yet but the back went on easy. They make all their own from original patterns so it took a while to get. Any way it is cool that someone took the time to do that right up. Yeah he could go farther into things, but his site is one of the reasons i have done so much to my car myself. I used to work on cars for a living before I got into computers, but I still find myself second guessing weather I can do some things. Bu sites like his and this one make the difference. Also it does not realy matter how many times it is on the same post, because your browser caches it the first time it loads the picture and does not download it again on the same page. Just my 2 cents Ian ------------------ http://web.tampabay.rr.com/iann/monte.html

Just look at all them in that picture, wish I was old enough back then to buy one new. Ian ------------------ http://web.tampabay.rr.com/iann/monte.html

I thought it would be a hard job, but as you can see here http://web.tampabay.rr.com/iann/monte7.html , it was not that bad. I had help from a buddy who had done them before, but I could have done it by my self if I had to. Ian ------------------ http://web.tampabay.rr.com/iann/monte.html

What does dropping mean? Like lowering the column, or removing it? Sindawe, can you send me an illustration of the steering column? I'm afraid I might do something wrong and not being able to fix it. If you have the cover below the steering column off, there are 2 good size nuts holding the column to the dash, then the dash slips over a hook if I remember right. Ben, I am out of town til Friday, and the pic is on my home computer, but I will send you a pic when I get back. I will ask my wife what kind it was. I got the idea from on of the mags. They redid the dash in their Monte so I figured I could do it as well. Ian ------------------ http://web.tampabay.rr.com/iann/monte.html

Ben, I did mine with a silver paint pen from the craft store. I have a good picture I can email you if you want. I would post it but my ISP does not let me link to pictures on my web site. Ian ------------------ http://web.tampabay.rr.com/iann/monte.html

If you change heads, are you going to sell the vortec heads and if so how much do you want for them. I need a set of heads for my drag car it has a set of open chamber smog heads on it now an they suck Ian

You could put a overdrive in it. Or lower number gears. I would go for the overdrive as it would be the best of both worlds. Ian ------------------ http://web.tampabay.rr.com/iann/monte.html

I'm still searching but there's another set of them for sale on ebay (from the same guy) and they'll probably go for around $250 again. Thanks, Allen Here is where I got most of my new trim from. http://www.thepartsplaceinc.com/montecar.htm The lower rocker moldings are $39 a side + the clips. If you still have your stock clips and can reuse them I would. They moldings are great, but the clips they sent with them did not work as nice as I would have liked. I still have to see if I can tighten them up a little. Ian ------------------ http://web.tampabay.rr.com/iann/monte.html

I am one of the bad guys that cut my dash and put a CD player in. It looks good, but not original. I figure if I ever want to go back to stock I can get a new dash. I would say do what makes you happy. I personaly am not planing on selling my Monte. I just wish that I had done the job myself instead of letting the shop do it. They realy butcherd the dash. It does not show when the radio is in, but I noticed it when I took the dash out to repaint it Ian ------------------ http://web.tampabay.rr.com/iann/monte.html
