  1. Correct Larry, Im drilling a hole in the bottom of my ash tray & going to run a zip tie through the wires on the switch, & loop it back into the bottom of the ash tray. Then I can pull the whole ashtray assembly out & pull the switch up with it, if ever necessary to mess with it for any reason. Otherwise it will never be used anyway cause I can control all windows from the drivers door. I dont think the kids will figure this out for quite a while, if ever. They are at that age right now where they mess with everything. Originally Posted By: abe72 Car sure is coming along nicely. Its gonna look great once its done. Seems all my interior is PUI brand. After learning more from this site I would suggest buying Legendary. Also dont buy any assembled door/interior panels ASSEMBLED, at least the ones with plastic backers. I think Legendarys stuff is assembled with factory style steel backers, otherwise buy unassembled & get a interior shop to assemble & fit your panels properly. My interior so far has been a struggle to make look "good enough". Should have spent more money to take me to the next level. Enough of that & moving on, front bumper went on easy & fits great, wonder why? Got some of the rear happenin
  2. Got the rear interior in today! Also knocked a few other things off my list too. Looking pretty good I think. Notice no window cranks or switches for the rear, I wanted a super clean look so Im concealing the switches & tying them to the bottom of the ash tray if I ever need to pull them out to mess with a single switch or wiring for some reason. The other reason being I have a 2 and a 4 year old, both boys, that I dont want constantly messing with the window switches
  3. Breakfast of champions Moving as fast as I can, dont have much time to mess around. Wish I had more vacation time with work & all to take some time off to finish this baby but I dont. So Im putting in some long hours everyday. I guess we had the same plans today Aaron, painting grilles what a pain in the butt. for some grille painting ideas see this thread http://fgmcc.com/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=409240#Post409240 Knocked a few things of my list today, most importantly I ended up with this. I know the car is pretty dusty & dirty at the moment. Gotta get ugly before it gets pretty.
  4. Hey Aaron, thats exactly what I did today too. Great day to paint a grille. Anyone thats ever done one of these knows how much freakin time this takes , what a pain in the butt. I went to some extremes with mine, thought it would clean up nicer than it did, so I went all out. I cut up 12 pack boxes to fiil the holes, thin but study cardboard. Nice mosaic pattern I got going on here Sprayed same silver as my stripes from the backside Flipped it & painted the park light recesses Put the black on Decided to do the lower pedastals too Then came the BLING
  5. Um Yaaaaa, maybe those two shouldnt be on the list, I find that I have already completed that task & keep forgetting to scratch them off my list. I also must be forgetting that its already been done & find myself repeating the same task over & over. Make it kinda tough to move on to the next one
  6. So at some point you start to get lost in what to do next & you find yourself doing nothing but staring at the car again, wondering what to do next. Its a good idea to make yourself a list of things that need to be done. Make sure you start with what is the most important thing at that time, what must be done immediatley before you should even consider moving on to the next thing, the absolute most crucial thing that must be done before the next. There is an order of importance to these things you know. Heres my list of things Im going to knock out tomorrow, I anticipate this should only take me a few hours & I will have plenty of time to relax & goof off once completed. Got the rest of the side trim on tonight, less the rocker moldings, those will not go on until near the end and the interior is completed. Yes you can install the fender trim at the rear of fender near door without taking the fender off the car, ask me how But I dont know how a rear view mirror map light works? NOTICE IN PICS - thats actually installed now & not on my list cause its DONE!
  7. Surprising what you get sometimes isnt it? Yes, its a good thing you didnt need the the upper Looking good Scott keep up the fine work, looks like you know what your doing, excellent cutting & fitting, like a master fabricator. Now get your butt over here to Michigan & help me get my car together!!!
  8. Just saving the easy ones for last Tony See above post for what I used on those.
  9. Well, Im pretty sure I asked you if you wanted some of these when I sent you the clips & I think you said no you were just going to use nuts. Heres what you should use, course any way you do it, they will be extremely difficult to get back off if you ever need to. Lets just hope they dont ever need to.
  10. Thanks Jared, I havent forgot about you, its just that I kinda have my hands full right now, sorry . These are some tools you should have on hand prior to installing your repro lower trim & wheel lip moldings. Take your time & look at each piece carefully. All four corners of all the pieces should be ground/filed down to debur sharp edges from the manufacturing process, JMO & just a suggestion. I also had to "shorten" both ends of all my repro wheel lip moldings because they were too long on both ends and hitting lower trim, would damage lower trim if installed like that. A few of them I cut off nealy 3/4 of an inch . Test fit by hand & check everything out before actually attaching any. Debur & cut back all the edges & you wont scratch or gouge your paint, I havent "YET", couple of pieces to go... Most of my new trim had dents & scratches on them right out of the package
  11. Nope not por 15, my doors where pretty much rust free, but certainly not dent free I did spray some epoxy all over inside the door, then took just regular old undercoating & hosed the living S*** out of the insides in hopes of supresssing any future rust from developing.
  12. Definetly a brain fart , possibly alcohol induced stupidity, or just general idioacracy (that's a real condition I get sometimes) or a combination of all the above DUH...
  13. Last few days have been pretty boring with what seems like almost no productivity, but working on the things Ive been putting off for forever. Cleaning up parts Im forced to re use, sifting through used parts & deciding which ones to use, reconditoning whats going on the car, putting on some seals, doing some detailing along the way, etc. Heres the gratuatis seatbelt shot, a few of them anyway. Power washed, scrubbed with a tire brush, etc. Sifting thru some good used parts for the best of the best. Anyone need some taillights? Lucky enough to have a very nice pair of 71/72 reverse lenses Finally wiring up my Klassic Keyless system & fitting "assembled door panels" tomorrow, oh boy heard horror stories about these door panels , cant wait. Anyhow found a nice zip tie to fasten some wires into pre existing holes on inner door shell to make things nice & clean looking for the Klassic Keyless wiring, sorry Tom Im modifying your kit a little. So far the Klassic Keyless stuff has been a breeze to install. I DIDNT HAVE TO TAKE ANYTHING APART TO DO IT! Everything fits great and am totally satified so far with it, yet to power everything up. Heres some nice zip ties to use for this, push in end goes right into existing holes. A few pics of how I ran the wiring
  14. OOOOOH KAAAY, Im an idiot. I was so caught up in the piece that fell out of the mirror & wondering where it came from & what was its function, I didnt bother to stop & study how things really work. Turns out that L shaped black piece of metal must have been part of the internal guts/part of day night switch or something and absolutely nothing to do with the light. Once I got my head on straight & figured things out all I had to do was clean things up a bit, tighten the preload on the copper contacts, lube 'er up with some di electric grease, re install the light assembly and she works just fine. Sorry for the trouble here guys, & really appreciate everyone checking into things for me, you guys are great!
  15. I can show you how its done when you come buy these fenders
  16. Seemed like a very non productive evening, almost like I accomplished nothing cleaned up my seatbelts not very rewarding but necessary. Took steel wool to the stainless & chrome to clean those parts of them up. Power washed & scrubbed the webbing /fabric with a stiff plastic bristled scrub brush. What I really needed was some oxy-clean with its miraculous cleaning power .Came out as nice as any 41 year old seatbelt could, not really worthy of posting a pic though.
  17. Thanks for your efforts Doug, I really appreciate taking the time to dig through your stuff. Sorry you couldnt find your mirror, Im having the same problems right now finding all the stuff too put back on my car I have stuff stashed all over the house & barn and have to look in a bunch of spots to find one thing everytime I go to get the next part. Fantastic organization skills I have, its all there just have to find it It may just have to go on anyhow, should have checked this out a long time ago. It can always be fixed or changed out later.
  18. finished up the poor mans dynamat today & got the carpet installed. Im certainly no expert carpet guy, got some help from my interior guy Gary. Looks good to me, I wouldnt know a bad carpet job from a good one Never stared at anyone's carpet long enough to critique it or even care what it looked like, ITS CARPET!
  19. Doug, thanks for trying, too bad about the Monte battery . Really appreciate your efforts & looking forward to what you find for me
  20. OK Larry I scraped the duct tape idea and actually put my belt moldings on, the duct tape just wasnt shiney enough Yeah I know the car looks awful, all kinds of dust & debris on the paint right now, but hey its work in progress... Put the drip rail moldings on too I wasnt real sure what went on first, the jute or the board for the trunk divider I figured if the board went on first it likely might create a rattle vibrating on the metal structure. I didnt like the look of the jute showing in my trunk either, not very pretty, so I cut and glued a piece of black felt to the jute first, then put it all in. Dont mind the trunk its a little dusty & dirty right now, so is the car, things are kinda ugly at the moment. Started putting down the TAR PAPER and some insulation, im putting the tar paper down first then going over it with a poor mans dynamat substitute . Prepping for carpet install on Sunday, still have more Po' man dynamat to install before carpet goes in but heres the start of it. Cant squeeze this pic in for some reason, think I hit my pic max in this post.
  21. Yep, the day/night lever works fine. Im thinking this L shaped piece was bonded or sodered to the inner part of the mirror housing & when you slide the whole light assembly it makes the ground contact. So I dont think its part of the bulb assembly but possibly a piece that fell off internally, which is gonna be bad & probably near impossible to fix. But no sure yet hoping someone will figure out what this piece is
  22. Don't see that little L shaped piece in that pic, but its a little blurry, a little out of focus. Really appreciate the pic but I'm not seeing it. I'm not even sure it is a electrical contact, could be a part of the day/night mechanism. All I know is my light won't work & that piece fell out of the mirror. Yes the bulb is good I bench tested all the parts out of mirror, everything checks out. I'm guessing that part may have something to do with the slide mechanism to ground?
  23. Thanks Doug, that would be great if you could help me out here. Id really like this thing to work before installing it, hate to put in a non functioning part. Too bad cause its in perfect shape cosmetically.
  24. I was testing my R/V mirror map light before installing it in the car & it failed to function. Upon messing with it I could hear something rattling around inside, so of course with it not working it needed to come apart to see whats wrong with it. After removing the lens & shaking it around to see whats rattling inside it a little black piece of metal fell out, looks like a contact. Question is where does it go, Im hoping this is repairable, possibly solder it back into place? Im hoping someone has a picture of this attached to where it needs to be. Check out the clarity of the mirror glass on this one.
  25. Ya, I understand their business philosphy too, & I get the whole tooling costs too much to make. But I'm a pretty firm believer in if your gonna do something do it right. If they spent enough to make a half [censored] part, how much more would it cost to make a good quality part? Apparently their all about making the almighty dollar & don't give a S#/+ about the end user. I'm probably more bitter about these kinds of things than most people because I'm in the body business & have to deal with aftermarket parts everyday (when perfectly good OEM parts are available, but that's a different story, stinkin' insurance companies) & have had to deal with inferior parts for the last 24 years doing body work. Its been even more frustrating building my Monte due to what's not available & what is available seems to be of poor quality that we are all paying top dollar for. I agree, we have all struggled to get our Montes done in an acceptable manner. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad some companies make what they make for these cars for sure. I Can't tell you the counless hours I personally have spent trying to acquire parts for my build (years). What a tough car to build. Anyhow the PUI felts are getting returned. I received some other felts made by "Repops" part # MT106A (Luttys part # 7603). Great quality parts, VERY close to the originals, fit perfectly, went on nicely & installed easily, perfect. Made in the USA too! I would highly recommend these to everyone. Thanks to everyone that posted here or contacted me about these felts & steering me in the right direction. Apparently Repops still cares about quality & the end user and will spend the money on tooling to get it right.
