No problem McQ, hope you get it quick so you can give me a review on it, dying to order one but I will hold off till I hear how you like it. How did you order it, online? I've been calling them for 2 days & can't get past the automated options recording. Caught in an endless loop of "push 1 for sales". Wanted to ask them several questions about it & can't even do that, so I send them an email.

Thanks DJ, its been quite a experience, getting close to the end Love the blue paint on your car, looks fantastic. She will look great when you get her done. Not much exciting so far this week as far as progress. Seems like I have done nothing at all, but yet have put in many hours. I Dont really even have any good pics to show you guys . Got my door & quarter glass adjusted properly, put some seals in, fought with some inferior window felts, put some trim on. Was buttoning up the quarter glass stops & adjustments so I can move on to installing carpet & rear seats & rear inner panels. Had a catastrope yesterday, one of my qtr glass rollers broke while adjusting, it was the last window I was messing with & I was just about done when I heard a loud pop, then saw the roller had busted in two. Pretty devistating, anyone that has ever installed all the quarter window guts & spent hours adjusting things would know. This is a bad thing especially after all the seals & headliner are in, the quarter glass essentially can not be removed without partially removing some of the headliner/sail panel. Fortunetly I was able to change out the roller with the glass still in the car, but was a time consuming deal for sure. Been hotter than around here lately, I dont usually work on cars in my barn this time of year, but because I have a deadline to meet, I must press on. Should have just installed an air conditioning unit but I really dont see myself doing much summer work out here so I installed this baby in a window. And some of you may have heard me complaining this week about window felts in a different post. I think Im just going to give up on the whole belt reveal molding thing and came up with an attractive alternative, duct tape & no window felts, cheap & attractive. Almost looks like chrome, dont you think?

The one posted in the link looked like it covered more area than the factory style mat, hard to tell in pics. Tried calling them 3 different times today to ask some questions but their phones must be screwed up, I couldn't get past the automated crap to talk to a real person. I looked at a factory style trunk mat at NPD when I was there recently & really didn't like it at all. The carpet would look soooo much nicer IMO.

I'm interested in getting one too but I hadn't really shopped around at all, just came across that one & seemed like a good price. Plus the free shipping is a nice bonus

Any one here purchased a trunk carpet kit? Was wondering how it worked out for them, fit, finish, quality etc. Here's one I was considering. http://eastcoastchevelle.com/productview...mp;sectionPID=1

I didn't know Home Depot was a PUI window felt distributor. Pretty much sums it up!
-
Well, PUI apparently bought out Top Cat Whiskers or distributes their product or something so that's why the rep was pushing that product too. Sounds like I'm best off going with the Repops. The PUI rep also stated that they are not about to spend a gazillion dollars tooling up equipment to make EXACT fitting window felts for the 5% of first gen Montes that have the belt reveal moldings that may still be on the road. If they are going to make & ditribute stuff that doesn't fit exact there should be some disclaimer somwhere in the parts description that states "modifications may be required to achieve an unacceptable fit & finish" or "these might fit good enough to get you by" or "less than restoration quality" etc etc etc....
-
So after fighting with the PUI F207-2 window felts to get tne to fit on the belt molding, I got them installed on doors & quarters just to find that the felt or "wiper" part is way too thick. The original felts are quite thin maybe an 1/8 ", these PUI felts are very thick @ 3/8" of "wiper" depth. This is causing a big problem with proper window adjustment and is pushing my glass sooo far inward its hitting the vertical window guide bar that the glass goes up & down on, very bad! Will certainly damage your glass and in my case would not like my new glass ruined. I called PUI to verify that these are in fact the correct felts for this application & somebody didn't just sell me something that would possibly work. PUI stated the F207-2's are designed specifically for the Monte belt reveal moldings. I discussed all there design flaws & quality issues with a representative & he reponded with "we make 50000 different kinds of window felts, we can't possibly make them all perfect". His suggetion to me was to take a razor blade & cut the felt to fit. In my opinion, when I spent good money for a replacement "REPRODUCTION" part it should fit. I shouldn't have to modify or mess around for hours to "make them work". In that case PUI may as well sell one part # a universal fit, market it to fit every car in the world & let all their customers struggle with them. Any how the PUI rep suggested I try a superior brand than theirs that "may" work better, like I should spend more money on window felts. He suggested a Top Cat Whisker brand part # 970409, made by Restoration Specialties. Spoke with a rep there & he assured me their product is far superior to PUI. I did not order any at this time as I'm still checking my options & I'm a little gun shy to just whip my wallet out to buy MORE window felts. I also spoke with Lutty's, they sell PUI & Repops brand felts for these. Lutty's recommended using the Repops brand part # 07603 as Scott stated he used & worked fine for him. So I'm undecided in which direction I'm going at this point. Should buying & installing window felts really be this bjg of a hassle?
-
So what PUI part # would work/be correct for these Leo? I used F207-2, they worked with a little messin around but I think PUI could do a better job with the fit & finish on these, but maybe Im not using the right ones . Took me longer than window felts should to install, IMO.

Yep, Gary is a great guy, did my seats for me a month or so ago, got him lined up to do the headliner and hes coming back to do the carpet & some other stuff for me too. Best thing is he's mobile & comes to you, awesome. My ace in the hole Todays intinerary includes installing the roof rail trim & weather strips, installing belt moldings & felts and adjusting the quarter & door glass properly & whatever else I can squeeze in.
-
Got the headliner & package tray installed, currenty still putting stuff on headliner/roof interior etc. Took a break for a minute to eat dinner & post some pics, will go going at it till 4 am or I fall down whatever comes first good picture of Gary my healiner guys feet, hes a little camera shy. Great guy coming out & helping me on a holiday weekend, hardly drank any beer & didnt even charge me double Some things should just be left to professionals, I dont have a clue how to install a headliner, well now I do
-
I have tried two sets from PUI so far, part #'s F207-1 & F207-2 both say they are for the wide belt moldings. The F207-1 definetly dont work or fit right the F207-2's are "correct" but when PUI manufactured them half the metal tabs are bent the wrong way. These will work, but alot of messing around needs to be done to get them to fit "good" not great.

Im not stressin' yet CK, still got a ways to go yet though. I will be working on her all day today, starting with the headliner & moving on to "other" things. Hope to knock out alot today. Didnt get a thing done on her yesterday, the wife shut me down & demanded I get a least one of our boats in the lake. Spent most of the day doing lake chores, including getting this all cleaned up, still dirty in pics. Everyone should have one of these, 300hp fuel injected 350 MAG triple 'toon with 4 inch pipes hanging out the back.
-
Clock? what clock? is there a deadline, how many days aaaahhhhh Got a few things done today, put in all new locks & got the door glass, power window regulators, & the rest of the door guts in. Moving right along with only a few pesky (is that a word?) things fighting with me. Glass is looking good
-
Do they fit the same as Monte? Sounds like they worked for you. That will help alot of guys here out Im sure, now all we need is the other ones . Finished up all the wiring in the rear of the car, a few pics to show how I routed my rear harness. I know car is really dusty still everywhere, worry about that mess later. Rear speakers mounted up too
-
I havent gotten around to installing those just yet, soon though. I had a lot of fun (more like mission impossible) trying to find those. The seals that were in my car literally desinagrated upon removal, like the second I touched them they turned to dust, poof. I wound up stripping a few cars down for parts and also bought two other Montes while in process with this one. So out of several other parts cars I came up with a few good sets of these seals. Im pretty lucky to have them & they are in great shape, I sold off a few other sets that were still quite nice as well. Here is another part that desperately needs to be reproduced, what am I going to do in a few years when these 40+ year old seals finally crumble? Installed my rear harness tonight which I built up a few months ago using American Auto Wires complete Monte upgrade wiring kit, this is just the rear harness, I did the entire car. With this harness I altered from the factory routing & did my own custom run, tucked everything up inside the drivers quarter cavity so essentially no wires are seen routed in the trunk area. Pretty happy with the results, dont have pics of that yet though, coming soon. Had to temporarily remove this harness to finish up some paint work in my trunk area & other stuff. http://www.americanautowire.com/shop/complete-wiring-kit-1970-72-monte-carlo Also tied in the Klassic Keyless systems tonight, didnt quite finish everything up though, maybe tomorrow. So Im kinda sorting through stuff, prepping things & setting up for the headliner install right now. Heres some of the headliner brackets/retainers & bows all cleaned up & re-painted.

The kids one only has 4 toes
-
are those made out of lead? & what size do they come in? Can you order a left?
-
So not many pics to show any progress the last few days, been mostly prepping, sorting things out & getting ready to install more stuff. Wasnt sure what to do on the package shelf area, I figured I should put some kind of padding below the chinsy carboard finish panel in an effort to prevent rattling & stuff. I went to the local fabric store & bought some heavy black felt, cut it to fit & made a cushion of some sort for $7. I cut out 4 layers of felt identical all at once, but I think Im only going to layer it 2 or 3 layers thick, have to do some fitting to see what I like best. I didnt like the fact that if someone stuck their head way up inside the trunk you would see the backside of the package tray finish panel which cosmetically looks horrible, raw cardboard looking finish. Now you will just see black felt through all the extra holes there. My car was originally equipped with rear defrost but I decided I wasnt going to put it back in at this time or maybe never. I just dont like the look of the "house register" duct it blows air out of & also didnt want to cut a hole for the ridiculously large switch that goes in the dash, its a new dash, plus I dont think I would ever use it anyway. I did run wires though (cars been completely rewired) in case I change my mind. I wanted to keep the interior mostly stock & decided to go with somewhat of a period correct speaker grille. Got these from motor city muscle car (their ebay store) aka inline tube. Very nice quality, good price I thought too. They come raw steel & must be painted of course more SATIN black . http://www.ebay.com/itm/190811599531 On a side note here, If anyone is going to do this sort of speaker grille make sure you buy a speaker that has a flush mount. I bought a 3 way speaker, not thinking at all, & the midrange and tweater stuck up about a 1/2 inch above the mounting ring so I had to buy a spacer to lower the whole speaker down so I could use these grilles, duuuuuhhhh. Above is what 3 layers of felt looked like. Here I go doing stupid stuff most people probably never would, especially with 30 days to go Yep, cleaning up stuff no one will ever see. Ground down a bunch of rusty headliner brackets to paint tomorrow, have to take them into work to do them as I cant currently pull my car out of the barn because there is a boat in my way. Dont want any over spray on my car at this point either. Of course I sifted through this junk to pick out the better/less rusty pieces. Headliner is going in this weekend & Im moving on to installing power window regulators in the doors as well as the new door glass the next few days.
-
I had a hard time getting mine on too, took me a while to figure out they were left handed thread
-
this guy here is on crack and this will never sell for this price, see link below. The only way this will sell is if an insurance company is forced to buy it as a result of a Monte accident & no other suitable ones can be found at that time. This guys a crook. If you can find a NOS pair for around this price range I think your doing good, IMO.

Monte Carlo / Corvette Hubcap differences????
CKZ03 replied to Kevin Wiles's topic in General 70-72 Monte Carlo Forum
My original caps came with my car & were standard with the Custom package. They look like the last pic you posted & the center cap is flat, not recessed. Part # inside cap reads 3972794. Can get you pics later this evening if needed. -
He did check with me Royce, thanks for the recommendation & glad your happy with yours. He should have got them while he had the chance. Only thing I have on hand currently is a decent right side, driver+ condition. Im sure you have found out by now Dominic, these are another really hard to find part, especially in perfect condition. If you see some you better snag them up quick, nice ones dont come cheap. Lots of guys here would love a better set for sure. You can have some rechromed but prices for that start at 175 each & up, and the quality is not always as nice once rechromed. A top notch pot metal re chromer costs big bucks. I really wish someone would start reproducing some of these chromed pot metal parts , sure would help us all out.

The color is in the glass, no film. Got the glass from auto city classics http://www.autocityclassic.com/ $599 for every piece of glass in entire car. Spoke with a guy named Denny, great guy, took about a week to get it out to me. Cant give it an accurate review as Im still installing everything, will let everyone how I liked it once its all in, fit, finish, alignment etc. So far im pretty happy with it.
-
Got both the quarter glass in, really liking the color of the glass now. Also installed new power window regulators. I purchased these from a company called Nu Relics, comes with a lifetime warranty. They said its a direct bolt in kit, mounts in existing holes from manual regulators, so far everything lines up perfectly but I still have to do the doors yet. Will let you guys now what I think about their product once everything is installed & functioning properly. But so far with the quarter glass everything went in perfectly, no drilling or complications, and they go up & down great. Its strange, almost every new part I have put on this car says Chevelle on it. Buy the way, all the seals, inner & outer, and even belt moldings can be installed after the glass as long as you leave the window stops out so the window goes down much further than it should. I will have to come back & potentially adjust the quarter glass fit once the door glass is in. You just dont know till you get most everything together. I have cleaned up & reconditioned any parts along the way that havent been replaced. Even all bolts have either been replaced or acid dipped & replated. Heres an example of what I just wont put back on the car. If it has rust or signs of wear its getting fixed. It all takes time, maybe Im crazy, but I just cant put anything rusty or crappy looking back on this car. Doesnt matter if anyone can see it or not, I would know its there
