TheBMan Posted March 18, 2022 Posted March 18, 2022 Well, it's that time of year; time to get the car ready for summer drives and show season. Does anyone know the specs for the o-ring shown where the arrow is pointing? Mine is leaking and I can't find the size/spec in the manual. I've replaced it before using one of those kits you get from the various reproduction parts houses but I wonder if it's the correct size. I'm looking for dimensions. For example, 11/16x1/16. Thanks for the help! Quote
TheBMan Posted March 21, 2022 Author Posted March 21, 2022 Nobody has a parts reference for this? Quote
jft69z Posted March 21, 2022 Posted March 21, 2022 Best bet is to contact one of the A/C places like Original Air Group, Vintage Auto Air, Classic Auto Air, etc. That, or a local auto A/C specialist if you have any in your area. I have a boatload of o-ring kits from various A/C jobs over the years, but to pinpoint the exact one you need would be difficult without having the parts in front of me. NAPA sells the A/C O-ring service kits, and are bound to have one in there you need. Quote
TheBMan Posted March 21, 2022 Author Posted March 21, 2022 Thanks @jft69z Joe. I did talk to Original Air Group, they didn't know. I have o-ring kits but the problem is that there are a few o-rings that are very close in size to one another. Trying to pinpoint the correct one. I think I just need to give it my best shot based on experience and logic. 😎 I was hoping someone had a parts reference book that had specifics. The regular factory service manual does not. Thanks! That's exactly what I have done numerous times in the past. If the groove is wide, I'll look for one of the thicker o-rings, but sometimes they're too thick to the point it won't slide into the other fitting. If it's too thin, it won't seal, lol. I have more than enough kits here that I can usually find something to work good though. Good luck! 1 Quote
420ponies Posted March 21, 2022 Posted March 21, 2022 Anyone doing that business in your area and specially our 1st gen Montes, or a any "A" Body will know exactly what to use.We have a local that can do wonders on any A/C unit on any manufacturer. Check around your area on any shops that do A/C work, you'll be amazed at what they know. 1 Quote
Grant MacPherson Posted March 21, 2022 Posted March 21, 2022 There is also an AC spray sealant that lubricates and seals, also works as a thread lubricant. I can send you a picture of the can if interested 1 Quote

Rancid87 Posted March 22, 2022 Posted March 22, 2022 I checked the original line off my car against a store style o-ring assortment I have(the old kind where each compartment has a specific size of o-ring so you can buy just the one you need) and the one that seems to be the best fit has the following specs: ID: 3/4 OD:15/16 Thickness: 3/32 The original o-ring is very compressed and flattened so pretty difficult to tell its original dimensions. 1 Quote

John S Posted April 1, 2022 Posted April 1, 2022 If you can get a measurement on it you can look at a company called McMaster Carr, a huge supply house. They have a huge selection of O-rings, the only problem is you may have to buy a packet of 10, 25, or maybe 50 but they are low priced. John S Quote
