B-Man Posted March 30 Posted March 30 So now that I'm on the cusp of wrapping up everything in the dash (for now anyway) I'm looking at my VERY cracked dash pad and wondering what the heck to do about it. Has anyone tried these 'covers' from Dixie Restoration? They seem like a pretty legit outfit. So I'm highly tempted to spend the $140 to see what's what. https://www.dixierestorationdepot.com/Product/Detail.aspx?srsltid=AfmBOoqjkii3PiriSpuY9NW3-VAHJMS2-0QPax1-d4lKrRp82W7nLpyo&s=DA00288 OUTER&d=33 1 Quote
Rob Peters Posted March 30 Posted March 30 I haven't heard of anyone who has used this repair panel. Reading the installation instructions there is quite a process of prep. You have to cut out any of the cracked areas that aren't sitting flat. It says if you don't do this those areas will show through the repair panel so the repair panel must be pretty thin. If you order one and install it over your existing pad and it works well please let us know here on the site. If it doesn't work we would also like to know that. rob 2 Quote
B-Man Posted March 30 Author Posted March 30 Thanks for the input @Rob Peters. I will see if anyone else chimes in before I pull the trigger. But $140 seems like it's worth a try. My 68 Lincoln Continental had a similarly cracked dash. I sanded down the cracked seams so they weren't proud of the surface and then filled the cracks with, I think, either black colored gasket maker or shoe soul glue. Can't recall. I then finish contoured it with good old bondo and then primed / painted. It turned out really well! I might take a similar approach with the Monte dash just as an experiment. I've already sanded the high seams around the cracks. But again, what's my time worth relative to the $140 'dash skin'?? More to come! 1 Quote

Since the repop one's, from what I have heard are not of great quality so I agree the $140 skin may be the best option to try. rob 1 Quote
420ponies Posted March 31 Posted March 31 Leo Konink can help you get a great fitting dash pad.$$, but personally well worth it. Give him a call, he is in our parts resources. 2 Quote
B-Man Posted March 31 Author Posted March 31 @420ponies, I saw some other posts referencing them. I will give a call tomorrow and see what they offer. Thanks! Quote
B-Man Posted March 31 Author Posted March 31 Leo got back to me via email with some really nice used options, as well as new. Also, I looked at the Dixie Restorations G Body video on YouTube for putting a new skin on a dash. It looks very straightforward and a good final product. I'm not sure how that translated to the first gen dash pass. But maybe?!?! Anyway, I will update as I make a decision 2 Quote
B-Man Posted April 2 Author Posted April 2 Update ... I pulled the trigger on one of Leo's dash pads. It has a small crack in it and he offered it for a great price. I can fix that small crack much easier than I can fix the many big cracks in my dash pad. I will report back Time allowed, I will still try and save the dash pad i have to some extent. And will offer it here on the forum for shipping cost. I can't bring myself to throw it in the trash. My DIY fix will work reasonably well and I enjoy a challenge. 5 Quote
72 Monte Carlo Posted April 3 Posted April 3 Branden, I'm interested in your original dash depending upon how it turns out! I went from Dark Green interior to Black, but I don't have a black dash pad yet. Quote
B-Man Posted April 3 Author Posted April 3 @72 Monte Carlo, if you have a green dash pad in good shape you can easily and effectively paint it. That should probably be your first choice. Second choice would probably be one of the black skins mentioned above from Dixie, along with painting any areas that it doesnt cover. I wont have time to do anything with my cracked dash pad until next winter at the earliest. Im really focusing on getting my Monte Carlo projects wrapped up for summer driving. So please done wait on me! 1 Quote
B-Man Posted April 22 Author Posted April 22 My new (used) dash pad from Leo just arrived at my house! Can't wait to get home and check it out 2 Quote
DragCat Posted April 22 Posted April 22 My old UPS guy lived around the corner from me, came home for lunch everyday so I knew my orders were always delivered before lunch. The new driver pretty much delivers in the am too. Do we have a problem if we know the delivery driver schedules ? 🤣 1 1 Quote
72 Monte Carlo Posted April 26 Posted April 26 My green dash pad has too many cracks in it, from the car sitting on cinder blocks for 17 years until I bought it from the 2nd owner. Quote
