  1. Bones, I connected a 200 ohm rheostat to the brown wire in the trunk which leads up to the fuel gauge and walla the fuel gauge moved as I turned the rheostat. Time to change the sending unit. Best part is I get to cruise around until the tank is pretty much empty! John
  2. Hello, My fuel gauge always reads full. Here's what I tried; I disconnected the brown wire connector in the trunk which goes to the sending unit. I'm seeing 12V on the side of the connector going back to the fuel gauge. Is this correct. How can I check if the problem is the sending unit or the fuel gauge. Can I connect a resistor from the brown wire connector (which has 12V on it) in the trunk going to the fuel gauge to ground. I'm thinking maybe the needle should move? This problem just started, it's worked fine for years. Thanks, John
  3. Thanks Bob. I did try this but as you mentioned the lens is Really stuck to the rubber gasket. I tried tapping the back side of the lens/housing with a ball pein thru the opening in the trunk where the wires feed thru but the lens/housing didn't budge. I'll try sneaking a dentist tool under the lens and work my way around till she pops off. Thank you very much for the feedback. I've got a 70 monte, same color, vinyl top, wheels. I'll post a few pics when I get a chance. Do you know anyone who has the clips that the screws holding the lens on insert into. These clips pop into the square openings in the metal. There are four of them holding the lens to the metal bracket. John
  4. Hello, Anybody got an easy way to replace the bulb on the upper rear tail light. I tried access thru the removeable rubber plug behind the bulb assembly but you must need tiny fingers. Thanks, John
  5. Thanks, Aaron. I knew someone here would have the answer. Just trying to put the finishing touches on "Monte" Cheers, john
  6. Hello, Year One lists three types of door lock knobs for a 70 Monte. One has a splined shaft (plastic) the other has a ribbed shaft (metal) and the last one has a smooth shaft (plastic). Anyone got a clue which one should be used to maintain an original look. Thanks for your help, John
  7. I used a product called Challanger. It cuts thru grease and didn't hurt the paint. Comes in gallons. Works great. John
  8. I installed my radio under the dash. I wanted to keep it original, the AM radio is still in the dash. Why not use the rear deck speakers, the trunk makes for a great enclosure. John
  9. OPG makes a nice molded carpet. They refer to it as factory-authorized,"GM Restoration" grade. It comes in two pieces. Not sure where you would find a one piece carpet, if it's even available. Hope this helps. John
  10. Thanks everyone for the info on the headrests and column/console. I'll have plenty of time to install them. The Monty's in the garage for the winter... Hibernating John
  11. mrcash, Thanks for the info on the column shifter and console. Did you end up making the brackets for the console as well. Or did they come with the unit. It doesn't sound to bad maybe I'll go for it. The only problem is that my honey won't be able to sit next to me any more... not that she ever did! John
  12. Hi Kris, Hey, check out the For Sale/Wanted board. MJS-13 is parting out a 70 Monte. Lots of interior parts. Thanks for the info on the headrests. I wonder if it would be tough to find a set of headrests for buckets. Thanks, John
  13. Hi, Can headrests from a split bench be installed on buckets. Thinking of switching to buckets. How hard is it to install the center console? What about the column shifter, any problems changing over.
  14. Thanks for the carinc.com tip. I guess $679 is about the going price for a complete set. I heard it wasn't to hard to replace them just takes a while. John
