  1. When replacing the emergency brake lens, what works best to attach the lens to the dash? Thanks
  2. Hi guys, thanks for the info. I talked to a couple of the companies that sell the aftermarket 2" drop spindles, it seems that most if not all the spindles are made overseas. I was told that quality control is the big difference from one spindle to another, and that's where the difference in price comes from. I'm not sure I want to drop the full 2 inches, so I'm going to look into removing a coil or buying a set of 1" drop springs. Anyone have any idea how much drop you get when removing one full coil from a big block w/ac spring. My experience with manufactured drop springs is they usually drop about 60% of what they say. Anyway thanks for the help. Paul
  3. Anyone used or know of anyone that has used the Right Stuff brand 2" drop spindle kit. If so, do they like or dislike them. Looking for a set for my 71 Monte, Right Stuff has the best price, but I know nothing about the quality of the Right Stuff brand. Thanks for the help, Paul
  4. Thanks for the info, and your opinions on which carb to use. The info shared on this site is always helpful. Thanks, Paul
  5. motor being rebuilt, 402 being bored 30, cam 515/520 268/280 aftermarket aluminum intake, shorty headman headers, hei distributor. a/c and auto trans. street car, which would you use edelbrock 650 or 750. thanks
  6. Ok, does the other half of the ball and socket connection come with the headers? If it does the muffler shop should be able to make the down pipes. I cut the old exhaust system off, so will be replacing everything. I was going to buy the down and tail pipes pre-bent and have muffler shop install. Thanks, Paul
  7. Thanks for the info, I plan on installing the Hedman shorty headers #68610. The only question I have, is will the ball and socket connection bolt up to stock downpipes? Still waiting for a reply from Hedman. Thanks, Paul
  8. Going to install shorty headers in place of the stock exhaust manifolds. Which spark plug boot works best with headers, 90* or straight. Motor is a 402 with ac. Using stock style valve covers with stock wire separators. Thanks, Paul
  9. Hey Doug, Thanks for the pic. Paul
  10. I'm going to try to replace the aftermarket dipstick on my stock 402 with a original GM. I would like to know the length of the dipstick and tube, and if the tube is straight or curved. So far I have two different lengths for the dipstick, 21 3/8" with a yellow tip, and 24 5/8" with a red tip. The tubes are the same length 16 5/8" but one is curved and the other straight. Thanks for the help. Paul
  11. Thanks for all the great ideas. Going to buy a set of the plastic pinch tools. I have a lot of work to do, so they should come in handy. Thanks, Paul
  12. Hey guys, just installed new wheels, derby caps and rings. What's the best way to remove the cap without scratching the wheel? Thanks, Paul
  13. Guys thanks again for the help and info. Pics on Ground Up site show beveled edge on both manifolds, also shows longer studs for one side of the manifolds. Should order spacer, gasket and studs. Think I will call Classic Exhaust to see what it cost for manifold to muffler, and muffler to tips pipes. When we start working on the car I'll try to send some pics. Thanks, Paul
  14. Checked manifolds, they are recessed for the donut gasket. Will use the steel ones. Just wondering, how much modifying has to be done to run shorty headers? It's a big block with a/c and power steering. Thanks, Paul
  15. Hey guys thanks for the reply. When I remove the motor, I'm going to eliminate the entire exhaust system. After the motor is reinstalled I thought I would take the car to a muffler shop and have a custom system installed. Shouldn't need the heat riser, right? I most likely will not be driving the car in really cold weather. Thanks, Paul
  16. Getting ready to replace exhaust manifolds on 71 MC with 402. Looking at a pair Ground Up parts has for big block 67-72 Chevelle, will they fit 71 MC with 402? Thanks, Paul
  17. Going to buy new tires and wheels for my 71 Monte. Here's what I think I'm going to do. Front 245 60 15 on 15x7 4" bs. Rear 255 60 15 on 15x8 5" bs. I think it should work, so let me know what you think. Thanks, Paul
