  1. Build the motor, trans go bye bye, build the trans, rear end goes bye bye, build the rear, tires go bye bye, get some slicks, tread life still goes bye bye smile

Id love doing a blower setup, I just know Ill have to go through the entire car to do so. I dont think 5 PSI would really be pushing that hard, but it still is more pressure so you should have the motor rebuilt beforehand. Ive blown up to many motors older and newer to know, you want to do it right. It sucks doing things 2 times.

  2. Ill have to take some pics of the stuff I use at work. Its a header coating that you can put on pretty much straight rust. I use aircraft stripper beforehand and then coat stock manifolds with a foam brush for 3-4 coats. Its been over a year on one of the cars I did and they still look brand new from the factory.

I hope your method looks purdy for a while too. It does look awesome in black.

  3. Q-jets are very temperamental. If it has been stored in a good area with no contaminants falling into it, and the gas drained before being stored, you could try it out.

On another hand, I ALWAYS rebuild a carb before throwing it on. ESP if it has been sitting for a while, or you have no idea where it came from. Gas can sit in the bottom and turn into a dust like substance and clog it up within the first few miles. Rebuilding them are not that easy with the choke linkage placement as well as all of the other mechanical rods.

The accelerator pumps like to catch on the spring and be destroyed if not installed, or lubricated properly beforehand. and make sure you get the lean out screws that protrude from the carb since using the special tool is a pain in the butt on your car.

As for intake, you might have to switch it to use the choke, I think thats it. Everything else should just bolt up.

And then the last advise, dont use a q-jet. Many people like them, many people hate them. Im stuck in the middle. You can craigslist a edelbrock or holley for decently cheap and they are easier to rebuild, find cheaper parts, and they are more tuneable to what you want to do as in gas saving or track racing with a 5 minute jet and rod change.

    Just my 4 cents

  4. Are you sure this isn't the fuel pump? I Dont think I have ever seen a 3 port fuel filter ever. The only factory fuel filter will be in your carb. Undo the fuel line and then the nut that the fuel line screws into, unthreads and you will find a gasket, spring, and filter. Usually a 1 inch wrench will untwist the housing.

Try to post pics of what you think is the fuel filter and we can tell you exactly what you have.

  5. My boss did some research and bought them for me. I picked them up today. I'll get the receipt tomorrow. They are the black hoses with the OEM stripes. Rather than aftermarket logos or screen writing.

I'll post the pictures and links tomorrow.

Edit: I did some quick research and these are the ones I bought.

They look spectacular and will go on after the engine build/underhood organization process. About the same price I paid.

  6. Took the 72 to a car show in Pendleton IN at the AmVets. Got a top 30 award. Yesterday we had a show in Markleville IN about 2 miles form home and it was colder than a well diggers [censored]. Next year they are moving yesterday's show to June 21st and said they are going to cal the 2nd annual freeze your [censored] off car show. High temp only hit about 35 degrees by noon when they gave the awards 3 hours early. Only had 5 cars, 1 truck and a fire truck from Pendleton.

Let me know if there are any other "drive worthy shows" down there and I'll make the trip.

On other note, I'm still giving storage the bird and drove her for a good while. Will be driving it into work tomorrow. Put mid-grade in the tank and saw a decent improvement. I'm just happy we have mid 50's weather for highs so its not completely freezing.

  7. 13 Really isnt that bad when you get used to it. I have one in my s10 and probably prefer it over full size. Hence why I never changed it back. I prefer it since it is easier to turn and IMO easier to handle with your hands closer together. Only down side for you, you cant really just try out 2 unless you know people who already have them.

    My 2 cents.

  8. I never win even when the competition is a joke. Participant judging yesterday yielded me nothing. A guy with a beautiful 73 Camaro and I were clearly the frontrunners in our class, but somehow we got beat out by a Saturn Skye and a '95 Mustang with ugly wheels. Don't ask.

No question here on why your car should not have won. Especially with the "Hey, Look at me!" radical hood presentation. Even non-car people should have picked it.

On other note, It's always sad this time of year. Daily driver is dusted off and prepped for the cold months ahead. The monte got a quick detail back to show ready, new detent cable fine tuned(universal), engine got the final tune since it was way off with 1-2 cylinders down, and hooning down the mid-country road at 110 was in order. Supposed to rain tomorrow so I cant drive her into work unfortunately. Makes me sad since she is running top notch. I have so many classics right now, I doubt I could park her into one of my bays. Maybe Tuesday.

  9. Car show last weekend, pretty small (under 50) but I took first and was super stoked. First time I ever took the main prize. Detailed my brothers car from 7 PM to 3 AM and back up at 7 AM to detail my car for the show at 9. DSCN4511_zpsf79ec701.jpg

But today I decided to reseal the transmission, New cap and rotor, for HEI dizzy, new wires and plugs, and the funny thing is, valve cover gaskets are 15 when new chrome valve covers AND gaskets are 21.99 on JEGS WITH free shipping. Looks pretty nice IMO. I know its dirty and unorganized, but I havent wanted to clean it up since I have a 350 block sitting on a stand awaiting a 383 rotating assembly and deciding which top end I want to do.
