  1. Monte 70car, I need your help with a problem, Dash harness installation page 3, step 23, I can't find where the three prong connector should connect too. I found where the single brown wire connector connects but not the three prong connector
  2. Okay, thank you. I finished installing the rear, headlight and engine harness I also reinstalled the dash. Now I'm working on the dash and Dakota gauge harness/wiring.
  3. Here is a picture of all three connectors, left to right, neutral safety switch, back-up brake switch and the other ?
  4. Monte 70car, good evening, I had a question, I'm in the process of installing the neutral safety switch. my old harness and switch on my steering column had three connectors that came off the harness and that connected to the switch. 1 has two purple wires, that is the neutral safety switch, 2 has a green and pink wire, that is the back-up switch and 3 has two pink wires, I don't know what that is. The AAW wiring only calls for using the first two and not the third connector. Do you what the third connector is and is it needed? I'm going to post a picture.
  5. Monte 70car, good morning, thanks for the info, hey got another question. On page 2 of the engine harness installation, for the pink wire (12 V ignition). I have a after market electronic ignition system (made by Pertronix/ignitor). It states to connect the pink wire to your Batt on your distributor cap. My problem is, I don't have a Batt connection on my Distributor cap. I went on the internet and found out what they were referring to, but the only problem is my distributor cap doesn't this connection point. Did you have similar problem and if so what was the alternate method you use. Thanks.
  6. Monte 70car, Good evening, been work on the MC today and had a couple of questions that I hope you can help me with. 1.) I noticed after working on the engine harness install that the horn relay has been removed with the AAW harness kit. I have AC in the car and the A/C relay used power from the horn relay. The hood light was also connected to the horn relay and used it as a source of power. Did you run into this problem with either of your MC rewire. If so how did you fix the problem? Could the fix be to just run a wire to the accessory to power the horn relay? I also need a 12 volt source for the electronic choke. 2.) I have a TH 400 transmission, on my transmission solenoid harness has two wire that is connected to the solenoid, power and a ground. On the AAW transmission harness only has one (Pink) wire that connects to the trans solenoid. did you run into this problem, if so what was your fix? 3.) the Dakota fuel gauge connects stated that you should run a (-) negative wire all the way back from the control box to the fuel tank. I guess the reason is to be as close to the (+) (light brown wire) positive wire. Did you run a negative wire all the way back to the fuel tank?
  7. Monte 70car, good evening, hey just finished installing my Dakota gauges into the dash. I haven't installed the dash in the MC yet. Quick question, where did you install your oil pressure senor on your engine? Above the oil filter housing? I have a 454 and when I purchase the car from the previous owner he had a oil pressure gauge installed that was connected to a fitting above the oil filter housing. Also since the Dakota kit comes with sensors/wires for the oil and temp that connect to the control box. I don't have to worry about the wires on the AAW engine/headlight harness right, I can leave them unconnected?
  8. Yeah my friend that installed the painless in his El Camino, told me he crimped all of his wires and connectors with a pair of needle nose pliers and just pulled on the wire and connector to make they didn't come loose. Thanks.
  9. Monte 70 car, Good morning, I have temp installed the dash/main harness and finished wiring and installing the rear body harness/kit. I had purchase a set of Delphi crimpers from Amazon. I noticed when I was using them to crimp some wires for the rear body harness that they worked but I had to put a lot effort into getting them to work and crimp the wire properly. My questions is did you rent the two crimpers from AAW or did you use something else. The video that I watched on there web site of them using the two crimpers that they rent/sale make it seems so easy. Thanks.
  10. No worries, I have been working on this car for the last 2 years. my goal is to have everything done by next spring. The harness was the last major task. Only thing left is upholstery, vinyl top and a couple other minor things. Again thanks for all of the help.
  11. I found the answer to the door jam switches in my Factory assembly instruction manual. Man that book is so helpful. Left side is a double terminal switch the right is not.
  12. Monte 70 car, after reading the installation instructions for the "Chevelle" rear harness/courtesy light, I was able to get the information on how to tie-in/connect the dome light.
  13. Monte 70 car, good morning. Hey I got a couple of questions. When I was removing my old harness I went ahead and removed both door jamb switches because I thought new ones came with the AAW kit only to find out they don't. I also happen to misplace one of the switches. The one that I do have is a double terminal switch. My question is are both door jamb switches double terminal? Also The rear body harness has a orange 12V wire and white ground wire for the courtesy lights/dome light. My question is how do I tie-in or connect the courtesy lights, dome light and door jamb switches? Where does the dome light connect to the harness the instructions just tell you to connect them. Also on the old harness there was a wire coming off the harness that connected to my light in my trunk, the new harness doesn't have a wire. should I just splice into the orange 12 V wire running to the trunk to supply the 12 volts need to power the light?
  14. Monte70car, thank you, I was looking at how the black support clips were taped into old the harness thinking how I would have to remove them and install them on the new harness, the zip ties make a lot of sense. Another question, I noticed from the pictures that you posted that you have power windows, I have power windows, locks and my driver seat is power. In the picture that I posted the orange wire with the pink connector and the pink wire with the clear connector were the only two wires that were externally plug into my fuse box's. I believe both supply the power from the old fuse boxes to the power locks, windows and seat. Is that correct? How did you hook up your power accessories (windows, locks, seats) to the AAW accessory connector, do you have any picture's of your connections running to the accessories connections. I also have a electric choke on Holley carburetor that I have to connect to a ignition activated 12 volt source. How would you suggest connecting it? Again thank you for the information and advise, it has been really helpful.
  15. Monte 70car, I had a few questions, the Dakota digital kit is suppose to arrive on Thursday. Did it connect to the AAW wiring harness like the original dash gauges or did you have to do some special modifications? Also from the pictures that you sent it look like you routed the harness like the original up/over and be hide the dash carrier? On the first page of the dash kit, Step three states to route the dash harness using the factory supports straps? The only type of support straps I noticed were black clips that were taped into the harness in certain areas.
  16. I'm sorry I should have been more clear in what connector it was. It's actually the black three prong connector with the orange wire that I was referring to. The connector that is red with the orange wire was inserted in the fuse panel and I "think" is the 12 volt power source that is used to operate the power seat, windows and doors. The black connector with the pink wire was also plug into the fuse panel. When I purchase the car it had a aftermarket radio and CB installed which I removed. so basically the wiring had been hacked into.
  17. Finally got it to work, its the connector at the 9 o clock position.
  18. Could you please tell how you post pictures, for some reason I can't post any pictures. Thanks.
  19. Monte 70car, After removing the interior harness I found a connector that is part of the power window/locks harness that I didn't know what it attaches to. Could you please look at the attached picture and tell where/ what it would connect to. Its the connector that's is on the left by the steering wheel at the 9:00 clock position.
  20. Monte 70car, After giving it some thought, I decided to order the Dakota VHX70CCVLKB. I wanted as close as the original gauges but with the modern oil and voltage gauges include in the gauge cluster. I also decide to follow the AAW instructions as written and I removed my dash today. It's going to take two to three weeks to receive the Dakota but I'm going to install the dash harness once I remove the old dash harness and wait on installing the instrument harness and press with the light, engine harnesses and then the rear harness. Again thanks' for all the advice and information.
  21. Monte 70car, until I decide which way to go with my gauge cluster I was going to go ahead and remove and replace the rear body kit. But I ran into a problem when trying to remove the tail light housing. I was able to remove the top chrome piece that is held in-place by three screws and the red glass that is held in-place by four screws. I also went inside the trunk and removed two wing nuts that I thought held the housing in-place. The housing still doesn't move. I even checked my 1972 service manual and it was very vague because it covers Nova, Chevelle. Camaro, Corvette and Monte Carlo's. The manual only gives you the general steps on removing the rear housing for all of the cars. Am I missing something? Does the rear bumper have to come off to unscrew the light housing, thus removing the rear light harness. Also if you don't mind me asking who did you purchase your Dakota digital gauge from and did you have to wait 3 to 4 weeks like some of the companies on EBay are adverting.
  22. Monte 70car, I was thinking about buying a aftermarket gauge cluster. From what I have seen they cost between $700 to 800. I had installed a digital cluster in my 86 IROC years ago when I had it. How much modifying did you have to do to get it to work with the AAW harness? If you have a picture of how it looks in your car could you send it? Thanks' for all the help and feedback.
