What exhaust systems are you guys running. I'm trying to stay close to a factory system. Was looking at inline tube or the parts place or maybe a garner. Are any of you guys running resonators

Isn't that the truth. I have a friend that restores vette for a living to NCRS standards and the time and money that goes into them is insane. I am gonna bring this one to a very nice level that is not gonna take remortgaging the house but will be awesome when done. Gonna do whatever I can myself as I like working on them as much as I like driving them. This Fourm is a fantastic place to chat with other owners and great info on these cars. Well motor and Trans are out and on the stand. I do have a question for you guys. It seems my car is under coated on the under side. Not just the bottom of the floor pans but the trans tunnel and the whole underside. But done very nicely as there is no under coat on the frame and the under coat is above the cross members on the body and old looking but in tack and evenly done. My question is were these cars under coated from the factory or dealer done. I dont know if I should remove it or clean it and freshen it up by painting it. Any help would be great. Thanks Joe

Well things went well this week. I located and purchased a factory 71 monte ss rear bumper that is now out getting rechromed. Compression went well #1cyl-145,#2-140,#3-140,#4-145,#5-140,#6-140,#7-145,#8-140. Not bad for being in hibernation for 14 years. So looks like it will get a gasket reseal and tune up and paint and back into service after the body is done.

That's true. I have one that I bought used for my car from one of our members. They are very hard to find. I'm going to the Hershey show on Thursday and will be keeping my eye open for another. Joe

And so begins the dismantleing

Well after 14 years of hibernation I got the ss to drive under its own power. I drove it around the yard for awhile and everything seemed to run ok but no brakes. Gonna do a compression test next week then start the disassembly and restore the Fram and underside of the car then send it out for paint. Trying to have it ready for the spring

Darren Congradulations on your 71SS. When I saw those pictures it reminded me of my late Uncles triple black 71 four speed 350. This working on getting that car from my couisin. Not much left of that car and it has not been on the road in 20+ years but it has never been touched either.
