I changed the fuel filter this week because it seemed like it might be running out of gas. I also changed the fuel pump last night. I will check the timing and let yall know. Clattering doesn't sound like a good description. More like a squealing belt or a frozen bearing. I am going to remove the belts one at a time to see if it could be water pump, etc. I really hope its not internal.

great advice guys. I was in a hurry to get this fixed last night. I needed a little time to sleep on it. right now both of my cars are having issues: brakes on one and who knows what on my this one. I think I am going to try to get the brakes fixed on other and spend a little more diagnosis time on this one. The engine has a noise that I am afraid is some real trouble. It is also spitting and backfiring and acting like it is running out of gas. I was talking to 3 folks last night and they all said to start off by getting rid of the Qjet. So, while I was broken down at the parts store, I bought a 600 cfm carb before I left O reiley's. They said that it should be fine but I wanted to consult my friends on here before I actually put it on. The car was running great last time I drove it, about 2 weeks ago. I went to move it about a week ago and was having a terrible time, spitting and backfiring. Yesterday, while I was checking the points, I noticed a little black do hickey that was in a vacuum line going from the intake to the heater box. It was broken. I plugged that line and it fired up. It was making a squealing noise that I thought was the belts. While it was running fine, that noise was bothering me. Later, I realized that it might not be belts. I am afraid that I might have an engine failure on my hands. A spun bearing??? Anyway, we were on our way to a cruise in about 20 miles away and about half way there, the car started to feel like it war running out of gas. I made it to the parts store and changed the fuel pump in the parking lot. That didn't help. We started checking vacuum lines. Some were old and I was worried about more vacuum leaks so I started replacing those. That didn't help. It actually continued to get harder to crank. I decided to get a ride back my way from the cruise in to get the trailer. The guy I was riding with said "get rid of that quadrajet". Anyway, I am sure I will be in touch with you all about this. Thanks so much for all of your help. I am not sure what I would do without your help.

Hey guys. My 72 mc with 402 left me stranded tonight. I think my carb MIGHT be the problem or at least one of the problems. I was going to replace the original quadrajet with an edelbrock replacement but wasn't sure what CFM I need. is 600 enough? It is a completely stock and will remain a stock engine as long as I own it.

Thanks Sam. Is the medium blue in color? I am getting really excited to tackle this project. I am going to try to get everything I can think of and have it ready just in case my work schedule gives me some unexpected time off.

Thanks for this help guys. You don't think I could just weld the clutch to the flywheel to save a few bucks do you???

I forgot to mention that I currently have a a 350 but might go with 454, if that matters.

Hi guys, I am gathering parts for my Muncie conversion. I am wondering about the bolts that attach flywheel to crank and bolts that attach clutch to flywheel. Does anyone know quantity, thread pitch, length and grade? Are there lock washers also?

Many thanks.

Hello everyone, I am going to be putting the Muncie in my car soon and I am just trying to get prepared. Do you know what the torque should be on the following fasteners: flywheel to crank bolts clutch to flywheel bolts transmission to bell housing bolts bell housing to engine bolts Thanks in advance.

I could use help picking a manual transmission
farmall replied to farmall's topic in Drivetrain Tech
Hey everyone. I just wanted to discuss another idea I had. I am now thinking about a Muncie. Can they be built with custom gear ratios? For instance, could 4th gear be set as an overdrive instead of a 1:1 ratio? This might be foolish but don't know until I ask. -
Well, I got my bucket seat brackets welded in and the seats are there. I have not put the rest together so no pictures yet. I did notice that with my seat slid all the way back, I feel very high and kind of close to the steering wheel. I am sure that the springs were probably soft in my bench seat but man, my head is only 1 inch from headliner now. I am only 5'11 and 225 lbs (don't judge me). Is it possible that I have the wrong sliders? The guy I bought the seats from said they came from a 68 Chevelle but they have headrest and the seat release button on the back, so I assume 69 to 72??. Does any one have any suggestions for me?

How do I put bucket seat mounts in bench seat car?
farmall replied to farmall's topic in Interior Tech
Thanks guys. It looks like I need to wait until my seats are back in my possession. -
Hey Guys, I got some bucket seat mounts and I am not sure how to put them in my bench seat car. There are 4 pieces of metal (2 long and 2 short). Can anyone direct me towards some instructions to this? My seats will be ready in a day or so and I cant wait to put them in. Many thanks.

Yes!. That looks great.

Awesome. Did you find a white console or have to paint this one?

Looks great. I am getting ready to do the same to one of mine.

If it matters, I do not plan to have a high horsepower engine. -

All right. I am trying to find some way to get "3 pedal heaven" at a lower price. I think the 6 speed just isn't going to work for me. The new one is too much money (although a very nice setup) and using a T56 is going to put the shifter 4 inches back from the original shifter location. So, I am looking at the 5 speed options. Silver Sport is offering a 5 speed with the following ratios: 1-2.87, 2-1.89, 3-1.28, 4-1, 5-0.64. I also have a friend who has one with the following ratios: 1-3.27, 2-1.97, 3-1.34, 4-1, 5-0.68. My car has 2.73 gears. Which do you think would be the better setup? -
I have had some good pics that I have wanted to share with you all but I cant figure out how to do it since the new site came up ether.

I checked with Silver Sport. The price for the 6 speed Tremec and all the goodies to install it will run about $6000. I am going to have to look for some other avenue... -
I got a quote from Silver Sport Transmission. It looks like you can get the transmission and all to hook it up for $5750. Includes clutch, bellhousing, pedals and many many other items. I think I might stick with my auto before I spend that much. I am looking for other options at this point.

Good morning Guys. I have a 72 MC with 350 / TH350, bench seat, column shifter. My original plans with this car were to make it a BBC/ 6 speed, bucket seats, console car. I am now leaning towards dropping the BBC (for now) idea but proceeding with the rest. I feel like my first goal needs to be deciding what transmission I want. I have been doing a little research and I am just not sure what I want. Here are the things that are important to me: 1. Price. I want to do this as economically as possible 2. shifter. I want to use the factory console and make this look somewhat correct. 3. drivability. I want to be able to drive this anywhere on the interstate as well as having fun running through the gears. 4.dependability. Just in case I go to the BBC one day, I don't want it breaking down. If I do go with the BBC, it will be a mild build. I am not interested in racing or doing burnouts. I would just want fat heads and a nice sound. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

This is also what I want to do. I will be getting ready to learn a lot
