And the answer isss.......just until a trip to ATCO hahahahaha
-
I have no intentions of opening up the trans and changing gear sets lol. As of right now..I know the tranny was played with at some point (they painted it blue lol) and I'm 99% sure there is some sort of a shift kit in it, but I highly doubt there is any other then stock gears in it. I am torn between 390 for the track and 373 for all around.....and then there is the thought of a 373 and running a 26in drag radial for the track and the shiney wheels with 27's for normal use. .....and the quest for tenths has gotten serious....or as serious as the budget will allow lol
-
What do we all think of a 3:90 with a 27" tire??
-
best run was 12.78 at 105.
I could stay with a 26....that really dosent matter to me...I'm thinking gears to up the 60ft...right now its 1.8ish.....I'm thrilled with the 12.7 cosidering what I have into the car....but if there is a 12.5 lurking in there...well....you know how it goes lol
-
Well...after a greattrack day...of course.... I want more. I was going through the traps at 5000 rpm.....I can get up to 6200. Sooooo...I'm thinkin there is some room to work with. Currently running 3:42 and a 26" tire....The tires are pretty much done... so I'm thinking 27" tire and maybe bump up to 3:73's.... what do the guru's out there think?

I'm pretty sure it's the blue wire from the box... when it is powered it activates the 2 step......I'll let you know tomorrow when I go wire mine up. Thanks for the great idea Davey...and to think, I was just going to wire it into my lineloc and set it at 4k....just to hook it up to something lol.
-
Lokar has a nice universal cable...and it looks pretty too lol....just measure twice, cut once...it's pretty easy to set up nudge nudge nudge... lol (and it comes with the new ball stud so you dont have to fight home depot hehehe)
-
I'm running msd streetfire wires. The boots can be bent to wherever you want them....I have a few straight..some 45"s and a 90 or 2 to clear the headers
-
How long do they last? How well does the line-loc hold? hahahahahaha
-
As much as we may curse..scream...throw stuff...etc.. is there any better place to be when life gets insane than locked in the garage???? We can all deal with a stripped bolt and parts that don't just line up....
-
Every one of us walks out the the garage planning to get "xyz" done tonight....I have found that if I cut that "xyz" down to x+1/2... the frustration level drops tremendously....

Get a screwdriver...go outside and play...whats it gonna hurt??Yes..colder air will require more fuel, but what the heck...thats the fun in these cars...constantly tuning to get the best out of it..
Kenny, wait till you get up here...better put money in the budget for a beater...this week in the teens to twenty's...next week 40's-50's...go figure lol
-
Man...do I want to go roller.....I agree, quality oil, change at 50 then 500...just because I like to be sure.....and go enjoy it..
-
Ummm...moving spring perches is kind of involved...I don't know what kind of experience you have...so fogive me if I am out of line...but cutting exsiting perches off and making sure the correct ones are welded on in the right spot seems pretty involved to me. I have not been out pricing rears, but I personally would look more for a direct fit.
As for the 3:42's I run them with a 27"tall tire and turn just about 3000rpm at 70
-
I will tentativly call it a success......got it all together and went for a 15 mile test run...no noises, vibrations...nuttin!! Call me the happy camper. I do have to repace the cover though. After going for a ride, i noticed a drip. It does have some dents from the schrapnel when it blew up...I just didn't notice the pin hole
-
Ok...finally got all the parts together.
I did not buy the recetech tool....and to be honest..this thing is going together tomoorow night one way or the other....before I pull the old pinion gear out...what measurements should I be taking?? I have something in mind....but want the input of those that have done this brfore
Thanks Guys

I am getting away with the stock chrome covers and a double thick gasket over the roller rockers...it's a tight fit...but it fits lol
-
Oh...sure Steve...just hand over the keys to the monte and it's all yours lol...at that point..I won't care how much coffee you spill in it lol
-
Well, through some wheeling and dealing, I will be upgrading to a refurbished posi carrier, new gear set/ bearings/ seals and install kit for 525. Now as long I can set it up right..life will be good lol
-
Hey Andy, thnaks for the offer, but this is for my Tahoe, not the monte, but you can send the autograph just so the sharpie gets used lol
-
Well...it's apart...and it ain't pretty. Missing about 5 teeth off the ring gear and the left side carrier bearing sheared off the carrier....never seen that before....so it basically needs every thing. Maybe I'll grab the wifey's camera and take some pics of the carnage tomorrow (mine had an unfortunate encounter with a tile floor). Gotta price everything out tomorrow, but hoping a posi upgrade is in the budget.
As for finding a used axle...the yard I deal with pretty much laughed when I asked....apparently they all blow up, but he did offer to rebuild mine for 800, and from what prices I've looked at online, it's not that horrible considering what the parts are goin for....we shall see what tomorrow brings lol
-
Nothing yet...gotta finish up other jobs first, and just have not had any time...plus I don't hate driving the monte daily
-
Well, it looks like I will be doing my first rear rebuild/upgrade. Not by choice, the rear in my 99 Tahoe has had enoungh....clunking noises are never good lol. While I am at it, I plan to upgrade to a posi unit of some sort just for the fun of it. Any tips, pointers, harassment, any kind of input is welcome. I'll just call it practice for when I step the monte up to 3:73's lol

Thanh...please check the gauge.... I heard nothing "odd" at Atco.... if you want to tear it down for the fun of it...great.... but definitley check your gauge first...at least when you fire up the new build you will know the gauge is right....
