  1. He said it was in stock and would be ready to pick up on Friday when I get the rest of the order.
  2. do we need one, or both? Because I allready ordered the passenger side one from Paddock... I figured we could wait and see if we needed the other one before I popped $65+ for it.
  3. Alex, could you call paddock at (800) 428-4319 and explain that to them... the guy on the phone with me has no clue what I want... so if you can find out the part #, I'll order it.
  4. Have I told you guys how much I love you yet? And I there's a cruise I wanted to hit in Early June... is it even a possibility for us to have her ready by then?
  5. Ok, the parts have been ordered from Paddock. $482.14 without shipping... We'll be picking them up on Friday and most likely driving them out to you guys Friday night or Saturday morning. I'll just drop them at John's, that should be OK?? I kinda like the front fenders welded like that... made it look cleaner and gave me a conversation piece with the car. If we can put em back like that it would be preferred. Did we take those off allready? I'll be seeing you guys on Saturday!
  6. I just called Paddock. $74.95 for the wheel house and $189.95 a side for the quarters. I'm just gonna order em boys, I think I may drive down and pick em up instead of paying the $100 shipping though... Before I order them, confirm this for me: We need the passenger side outer wheel well for a chevelle (they dont have Monte's) We need a Quarter skin for the passenger side We need a Quarter skin for the Driver's Side Is that correct?
  7. Allrighty... so should i or shouldn't I order what? I have recieved a few donations from club members as well as a few bucks for my birthday... So tell me what you guys feel is best. If we want to order some parts, tell me what specifically we need and I'll go find it. I want this thing to look good, but I don't want bondo wear in two years. The more metal we put in her, the better I feel at this point.
  8. Damn, is that all!? And we could fabricate all that we need to pretty much make the rear fender's all steel again? Have you guys banged metal before? Cause I'd kinda think it'd be hard to get the right shape... wouldn't it? And I thought Alex said we needed more than just skins because of the damage inside the wheel wells...
  9. *** UPDATE *** I am still questing for patch panels for the rear quarters. Very little luck so far... and Leo has yet to get back to me on wether or not he has any. I have begun to look at just buying a whole new driver's side (or both... do we need both?) rear quarter. It's damn pricey... if we cannot work with what we've got is it possible to use the "skins" I'm seeing advertised?
  10. Charles gave me a call last night and told me that basically the driver's rear quarter is crap... Apparently it's got a ton more bondo than we'd like... So should I just try and find some whole new quarters? About how much is that going to cost me? Or how bad is it? Can somebody lemme know some more info on it? I was in the middle of WWIII with my roommate who is stiffing me on the bills, so I couldn't talk to him too much last night. Also, it looks like I will be coming out there this weekend if you guys are going to have time to work on her with me. What day works best for you guys? And who else will be able to come down and join!? (If anybody...)
  11. Well, I made a phonecall to CarburetorsDirect.com and he wanted to know the precise OEM number from my stock carb. I gave him one I read off someone's post in the tech forum who had a 1970 2-barrel and he found one that fit. But he wants to know my car's precise number before he sends it out, so we know it's the precise one... or something. Anyway, here's the e-mail he sent me... seems like a good deal, what do you think? Quote: Hello Sir, I spoke with you today on the phone regarding the carburetor you are looking for. 12. OK, can someone see what the OEM is on my Carb? I found a place that can actually give me the correct 4 barrel for the 1970 monte for like $120, but they want the OEM from my stock one so they gaurantee I'm getting the matching unit.
  13. Can whoever next goes over to John's do me a favor? There's a spare manifold in the trunk... the guy sold it to me with the car. I think it's date stamped for a 72... but I'm not sure. Anyway, my question is could one of you look at that and let me know if that is indeed a four barrel? I think it is, in which case my buddy says he can get me a 4 barrel carb pretty cheap. And I know that the four barrel was an option on the 1970, and added 50hp. So if one of you guys could just check and make sure that manifold is indeed a four barrel, and is in decent shape... I may look at getting a new carb. What specs should I tell him I'd need though? ((btw, I'm just looking into it now... I don't know if we will do this... but another 50hp would be nice)
  14. Well, I will not be able to make it down this weekend (24 - 25 APR 04). There is the slightest of chances I may have Sunday free, but I wont know until Saturday afternoon. So I guess I wont be there guys On a plus note, I asked for my birthday gifts in cash this year... so I can put em into "Molly". So the budget has increased a little bit, let me know if we need anything. I'm still looking for patch panels on the rear's rust problems... I'm thinking we may have to fabricate em. Also, I was a thought: I'm thinking we do something to rustproof the underside after we get the work done down there. What do you guys suggest? I know I can buy the stuff in aerosol cans and just spray it down there, does that stuff work OK? or should I get some POR-15 to put down there?
  15. And here they are, folks... for everyone to see! Here's the Front of the Monte after some sandblasting: And then, some varying angles on the car... And last but not least, it appears the sandblasting discovered a small little rust problem on the Rear Window Frame:
  16. My coming weekend is still messy. I don't know if I will be able to clear it all out and head on out for a day. I'll keep you guys posted on my schedule. But Alex says he'll be there, if you can make it. And he should have some of the beer left, they barely nicked it before I left on Saturday night. Hehe, it is Pabst though... sorry guys, there's a long story behind that one... but lets just say it's because I've put all my money in the car at this point.
  17. Oh! I almost forgot the wackiest thing we found today! Charles noticed that right at the bottom of the front fenders... where they join the rocker-panel area... they are actually WELDED to the rocker panel area! Bolted and Welded to be precise. The seam is completely gone! It looks pretty good, but I guess we wont be pulling the fenders off to have them dipped. Has anyone ever seen anything like this? I'll be sure to get a picture next time I remember!!
  18. Well, KnightFan... we enjoyed the weather ourselves! What a georgeous day to work on a Monte! I arrived at the garage at about 1 o'clock, and Alex and I began immediatly. We took a pretty laid back approach today, but still got a lot done. We started by pulling the rear window out (which turns out to be a lot harder than one would think...) Our wire kept breaking as we tried to slice through the window gasket, so we ended up prying it up ever-so-carefully with a few prybars. After we got that taken care of, Alex showed me how to weild the sander, and off I went to see what was underneath the paint on the passenger door. Unfortunatly, we found a TON of body filler on the entire passenger side... but it appears the job was done quite well. So it will hopefully not be too big a problem. (See all the "White" in the pics, body filler) Also, it turns out the rot around the Rear tire-wells is worse than first expected. I'm gonna need a patch panel or two to take care of these problems. And although it isn't shown in the picture, the front part of the passenger rear well is in pretty bad shape. The Driver's side is a little better than the passenger's: While I was happily sanding away on my door, John (who owns the garage we are working in) came out and singlehandedly stripped the paint off the entire driver's side using only a RAZOR BLADE! I was impressed. The car was blue, I go to work on my door, come back over to the other side a few minutes later and the car is suddenly a smooth primer-brown! It was really amazing! Of course, we'll still have to sand down that primer... but wow! Then it was time for some brake-work. We installed my brand new Rotors and Pads, which was a first for me! So I learned something usefull today. When we pulled the believed-to-be-original rotors off the car... it was amazing the Monte had even been able to stop! There was a quarter-inch groove ground into the driver's side rotor! [and yes, this was damage, it was in addition to the nice smooth "cooling groove" that each rotor had been originally manufactured with] After we got the brakes fixed up a little, Alex helped me pull the rear bumper off and he began to remove some of the smaller trim items that were still on the car. So basically, we had quite a productive day! Before I knew it, it was 8pm and I still had a 2 hour drive to get home! Time sure does fly when you're having fun! I really appreciate your help guys, and a special thanks to Alex for his gentle kindness towards a dumbstruck tinkerer who was in WAY over his head this afternoon. The progress is comng along nicely, I almost didn't recognize "Molly" when I saw her... no top, very little paint, no trunk or hood... and the rear seat removed... Things are coming along nicely! I'd like to once more express my thanks to Alex, Charles, Charlie, and John for all they are doing for me! I'd be in a world of hurt if it wasn't for this club.
  19. Well,I'm heading out now. About to begin my cruise over to Illinois. Alex, Charlie, myself, and whoever else shows up are going to spend some time tinkering on the car. (or atleast I will) Stay tuned, I'll post some pictures on here tonight...
  20. I called Leo last night, and I left a message on Charles' phone but I wanted to make sure you guys heard about the patch panels. Leo said he doesn't know id anyone makes a panel or if he has a parts car he can take them from for us, and we may need to fabricate them. He asked for digital pictures of the problem areas so he can know exactly what we need and then he'll see what he can do for us. So Charlie, if you still have that camera... could you please snap a few pic's and send em to Leo? I'd like to see them too so please send me a copy as well. (webmaster@ussedson.com) Billie
  21. I called Classic Tube. Apparently, they have half the order done and will not have a set of Vapor or Fuel lines bent for me until mid-next-week. They were holding the Tranny and brake lines to send as one order. They were very nice, apologized for the delay, and are going to be sending out the Brake and Tranny lines today, with the rest of the order to follow ASAP. I also confirmed the address, and they are shipping to you, Alex. Quote: Also, on a side note: My father is retired and loves using his new "computer skills" and surfing the web. He apparently found us a shop up by Chicago that can order a to-specs top and install it, all for ~$300! They say that that year the monte had two grain patterns, light and Coarse, and two shades of Blue. So we need to decide if we want a lighter or darker blue, and a lighter or heavier grain in the fabric. I'm thinking the Darker blue since we're going with Fathom Blue paint, but I had not heard of the different grains for this year... does anyone have any suggestions for which looks better, or if there were even two grains that year? And they need atleast a two week lead time to order the top from some company in Virginia that still manufactures these.
  22. Spectacular! I'm excited to get my hands on her a little and try to be of some help. Aslo, Charles, I'll bring that kit as requested. 23. Alex, Charles, Charlie: I should be farely free this weekend. If you guys are going to be working on my monte, I'd love to know when and where to meet you guys. I may not be super-knowledgable... but I follow directions well (like any soon-to-be officer!) Also, I know atleast "Big J" from these boards is willing to lend a hand. Maybe we could all get together this weekend. I'm sure that there's more than ample areas for atleast some sanding to be done... or something that can be split up 4 or 5 ways. If you guys are willing to supply the shop, I can supply some beverages. What do ya say? Or is this weekend no good for this type-a-thang? Billie
  24. Well, hmmm... that would be a problem. I'll call the guy on Tuesday (have doctor appointments this weekend in Chicago for my injuries from that auto accident) Maybe I could just order a white top and have him dye it then... but I don't know how this would turn out. Has anyone ever seen a dye job? and are they any good? 25. I spoke to a fairly well known shop here in Lafayette. He says that he can get a blue top for me, no problem at all. It will be ~$600 with materials and labor, and he'll need the car for two days (after we paint her of course). Charles, can you call the guy you like out there and ask him if he could do a blue top to match the paint and what he thinks he would have to charge? I understand this is a little early for this stage, but I always like to have things planned out in advance. Happy Easter to everyone! By the way, have I posted on here that the Monte has a name now? If not... :::drumroll please::: Say hello to Molly! Molly the Monte Carlo... has a nice ring to it...
