  1. On '71s build sheet is listed a P90 option as G70X15 WHT STRIPE. Would these tires have raised white lettering and a very thin white wall? What is option code ZJZ and U79? Thanks, Ed

  2. If GM had kept copies of auto build sheets some

Chevy researchers, by now, would have come across them. The build sheet was an internal factory assembly record form. As such, they weren't really concerned about placing it the cars. Some factories didn't do it. Being an internal document, once the car was assemblied Chevy didn't have need for them. If GM kept all the forms a car assembly produces they'd have zillions of documents. Ed

  3. A 1st Gen SS454 with a LS6 and/or a 4-speed hasn't been documented. Build sheets, VINs, and Pro-tect-o plates are documents. The Monte Carlo Owners Association and FGMCC have not come across

such info in their many years of existence. Sgt Ed of the SS454 Police.

  4. Iceman, You called? Long time no hear. How is that absolutly perfect SS doing? Many of us have been waiting for a picture of your 70 SS454 clone LS6 than Chevy should have made. Actually it's not a clone as none were ever made. Believe me restamping a block can be detected. Not a thing wrong with clones. In the USA owners of private property can do with it as they choose. 5. Ed, Car in question is a '71 SS. It has one line coming thru firewall. My other '71, non-SS, has two lines and attach as you explained. So, I'll attach the one line, SS car, to fitting behind carb. Is this line composed of a rubber and a steel tubing section?. Will, for now, not connect coolant valve. Maybe someone else will have the solution.

1badMC, Will check the assembly manual. Tks to all. Ed

  6. Coming out of the firewall, a few inches to the northeast of the A/C suitcase is a vacuum line. To what does it attach? Behind carb is a manifold fitting that has provision for two vacuum lines. One is from the trans, the other is for? To what does the vacuum line from the gold colored coolant shut off switch, located on front right of intake manifold, connect to? Thanks, Ed

  7. Need to know color of driver side inner fender mounted air tank. Previous owner painted many under hood items black. Air tank mounts are black and I think tank is aluminum/silver in color? Correct? Thanks, Ed

  8. Thanks Will. Have that book. Have read it and will do again. Is the main difficulty in hobby mechanics from doing GM overdrives, 700R4/2004R, is the lack of the special tools required? Ed

  9. First Chevy SS was a 61 SS348. 348ci engine became the 409 legend. 409ci ended in '65 when 396ci began. You know the rest of the story. Want more? Check out 348-409.com. Ed

  10. Was told that TH350/400s can be rebuilt in home garage. If you have experience doing engines then TH350/400s can be done and only requires simple hand tools. Any advice as I attempt my first TH350 rebuild? Thanks, Ed

  11. Non-bucket seated/non-gauge package 1st Gen SSs

make perfect sense to me. The Monte was, in some views, a luxury car, in others a sporty car. With a pure luxury theme sport options don't fit. Envision two completely different '70/'71 SSs: #1. sport optioned: bucket seats, console, manual windows/door locks, black or raised white lettering tires, rally wheels. #2. luxury optioned: electric bench seat, electric windows/door locks, thin white/red wall tires, hub caps, rear window defroster. Any other sport/luxury options? Ed

  12. Leo, Another excellent example of people believing/saying something they 'think' is correct without having any information. One of my mottos, "Just because you think it, doesn't make it correct" Ed
