  1. Thanks Wallaby. Does GM still list trim rings for 15 X 8 wheels? If not, who sells 'em? Thanks, Ed ------------------ '71 Black 406/700R4 '71 Saddle SS454 orginial '71 Project, 2" chop planned, send sazzall blades
  2. Is there a different trim ring for 15 X 8 rallys? Or does it use the 15 X 7 rally trim ring? Thanks, Ed ------------------ '71 Black 406/700R4 '71 Saddle SS454 orginial '71 Project, 2" chop planned or should it be 3"?
  3. Have fulfilled all requests. I wasn't this popular in high school. Ed ------------------ '71 Black 406/700R4 '71 Saddle SS454 orginial '71 Project, 2" chop planned
  4. Have send a copy to requestees. Let me know if instructions were unclear/missed something. Ed ------------------ '71 Black 406/700R4 '71 Saddle SS454 orginial '71 Project, 2" chop planned
  5. Jadob, This is a difficult job. It's very involved but doable by taking your time. E-mail me and I'll give you complete instructions which are quite long. Ed '71 Black 406/700R4 '71 Saddle SS454 orginial '71 Project, 2" chop planned [This message has been edited by ejw71 (edited 04-30-2002).]
  6. Allen, I visited VirginiaVettes.com but was unable to find Corvette 15X4 trim rings. What path do I follow on once on site? Thanks, Ed ------------------ '71 Black 406/700R4 '71 Saddle SS454 orginial '71 Project, 2" chop planned
  7. Were gauge lettering and numbericals colored a lite green in '70 1st Gens? For '71-'72 was the color white? Thanks for the help, Ed
  8. I've used a bent nail, which is using a tool without buying one. Delmonte's idea sounds great, must try it next time. Ed ------------------ '71 Black 406/700R4 '71 Saddle SS454 orginial '71 Project, 2" chop planned [This message has been edited by ejw71 (edited 04-16-2002).]
  9. Repos attach to wheel differently than original. With many fingers, rather than four. Yea, I'd save the bucks too. ------------------ '71 Black 406/700R4 5/28 finish date & 773 miles to Commerce, GA '71 Saddle SS454 orginial '71 Project, 2" chop planned
  10. Allen, Good question. Only reason I can think of is fuel percolaction (sp)(vapors)due to heat. My '71 350 4bbl Qjet has the return line also. Stock filter was available. I'm going to use this return line on a TPI system from a Z28 IROC I'm installing soon. TPI uses 3/8" line but was informed that 1/4" would be okay. ------------------ Ed '71 Black 400/700R4 must be run'n by May 28 to make show '71 Saddle SS454 orginial '71 Project, 2" chop planned
  11. Sounds like Todd 1972 has a great solution, as well as, least costly. Then POR 15 the hell out of it and it'll 'never' rust again (under headliner too although I doubt rust is on inside of the top). Not replacing vinyl top solves "all" of the future rust problem as condensation caused rust in the first place. ------------------ Ed '71 Black 400/700R4 must be run'n by May 28 to make show '71 Saddle SS454 orginial '71 Project, 2" chop planned
  12. The axle housings are code stamped for each ratio. Of course, unable to find decoding housing location book. When found will post. ------------------ Ed '71 Black 350/700R4 Mar. 31th completion date '71 Saddle SS454 orginial '71 Project, 2" chop planned
  13. Rather than reinstall the SB350 and later replace it with a SB400 I've decided to install a SB400 now while changing the TH350 to a 700-R4. Concerning the SB400, I must drill non-400 heads for steam holes, use SB400 harmonic balancer and flexplate. Am I forgetting anything related to installing a SB400 where once rode a SB350? Tks. ------------------ Ed '71 Black 350/700R4 Mar. 31th completion date '71 Saddle SS454 orginial '71 Project, 2" chop planned
  14. Run an electric fuel pump at 5-6 lbs with a carb. If you are using OE EFI, Chevys run 40-45 lbs., best to have pump in gas tank. I use a mechanic pump when using a carb and electric with EFI. Ed ------------------ '71 Black 350, 700R4 almost finished '71 Saddle SS454 orginial '71 Project, 2"-3" top chop
  15. FAdams6969, Check out the 10/31/01 post titled "inner fenders". I had the same questions as you when changing mine. Ed ------------------ '71 Black 350, TPI/700R4 being installed '71 Silver BB/350 in the re-thinking/collecting stage
  16. Where can I purchase oil, voltmeter and temperature gauges in the diameter of idiot lights in 1st Gen dash? Thanks, Ed
  17. Thanks for the help. I'm going to back flush the cooling system, add a 160 degree thermostat along with fresh antifreeze. If that doesn't cure the problem I'll install a larger aftermarket radiator. ------------------ '71 Black 350/350 '72 Silver BB/400 project '85 Black SS 305/2004R
  18. Genally my 71 350/350 runs at 190 degrees. However, sometimes the gauge reads 225 degrees. Motor runs fine and coolant exits overflow hose upon shut down and then temp go to 250 degrees. Hotter weather effects a little but not much. When running at 225 it runs as good as when temp is 190. Changing thermo had no effect. It is an A/C car (no working) but has a two core radiator. Didn't these have a three core? Thanks, Ed
  19. I intend to (hope to)use the column shifter for the 700R4. Check out www.shiftworks.com for changing over to later model quadrant.
  20. The trans filter probably needs to be changed. GM automatic trans behave this way when filter is clogged.
  21. Did 1st Gens have a interior adjustable passenger side mirror as an option? My 85 SS does and would like to get one for my 1st Gen. 71 Ed AR
  22. I'm going to install a 700R4 in my '71/350. I've determined that the trans mount will be 2 1/8th inches further rearward. This is easily changed on the existing cross member. The lockup feature wil be set internally, thereby eliminating an external switch. Driveshaft changes depends trans being from a Chevy or from a Corvette. Try tciauto.com for transmission dimensions.
