  1. Just wondering how often you should replace the coil springs. Mine are going on 20 years old and the car doesn't seem to sit quite as high as it used too.... Also what is a good replacement shock for our cars? They are also about the same age and I notice there is a lot more bounce lately. Thanks for the suggestions!
  2. Yes the diode did fix my problem. All is good now. It was back feeding from the GEN light keeping the car running.
  3. Number 4 pin, brown wire off the regulator... #NTE116 diode that is part number someone suggested Might just get this one... has all the connections provided
  4. So I found this information on a Chevelle site. This is exactly what it is doing. Sounds like I need a diode. Does this sound right?
  5. Nope this started after I added that relay. Will try the heater fuse suggestion. Also may try running a new wire from the ign spot in the box right to the distributor like before just to see if it works correctly.
  6. Only changes I made from the diagram was running the power to the junction box instead of the battery cable, and the fuseable link is up on the firewall instead of down near the battery. I ran the wire to the IGN spot in the fuse box. I believe that is what you are asking correct?
  7. Paul, No AC unfortunately.... I did not follow your diagram exactly.....I ran the main power line from the junction box near the battery on the front instead of the battery cable. I wonder if it is backfeeding power.... Will move it to the battery cable tomorrow and see.....
  8. The radio also stays on until I move the fan switch down. Then everything is off like normal....
  9. So I took the Monte out for a cruise today. It was finally warm enough where I didn't need the heater so I had the fan switch shut off. When I went to turn the car off, the Gen light came on like normal but the car continued to run. It wasn't until I turned the fan switch speed down one spot then the car will shut off. I did just redo the HEI distributor power last week. (See post on main electrical page) Any ideas on what that might be? The ignition switch was replaced last year. The car still has the original voltage regulator... Thanks! šŸ¤Æ
  10. Okay very good thanks for the information!šŸ˜
  11. So does anybody use a product on the vinyl top that makes it look good, and will not leave streaks down the glass and paint when it gets wet? Tried many, still no luck.....Original top looks gray without anything... Thanks!
  12. Thanks Paul! I did exactly as you said, and I am up and running! Worked like a charm! šŸ˜Š
  13. Am I using 12 gauge wire for all the connections off the relay?
  14. Ok thanks Paul. šŸ˜ I was not sure if there was a way to get away from the turn signal fuse. It has been plugged in there since 2004. However, when my brother put the new front bumper on 10 years ago, he somehow managed to run the wires and connectors under the battery tray. We corrected that today. Is there anyway the distributor could malfunction somehow and overloaded the fuse? Idk if that is even possible, but I was just thinking about the different scenarios.
  15. So if I were to go this route, if the fuse blew for the turn signals again, the car would still continue to run? Sorry if thatā€™s a dumb question......
  16. Hey everybody! Today I kind of had an unpleasant experience. I was entering the freeway speeding up with my turn signal on, and my engine died. After I got the car towed back home, I realized that the fuse blew for the turn signals, and that is also the fuse that powers the distributor thatā€™s plugged into the fuse box. (IGN spot) I did find some questionable wiring and repaired it and everything is back to normal now, but Iā€™m still not really sure if I found the problem. Is that correct to have the ignition spot on the fuse box powered by the turn signal fuse or is there something going on there? My Monte is a 70 if that makes any difference. It has no power options and no air-conditioning. So my question is, is there a better way to power the distributor rather than just plugging it into that spot on the fuse box? I would ideally like to have the power to the distributor on its own fuse. Iā€™m not really great with this kind of stuff so any help or suggestions would be much appreciated. Wayne
  17. Thanks for the input guys! I appreciate it!
  18. Hey Everybody! I just ordered my new cloth seat covers from legendary. However, there are a lot of options out there for seat foam. Which is the best? Also, there are ones that say ā€œwith springsā€ or ā€œwith out springsā€ for the front bench. Is there seat foam for the rear seat? Mine does not really seem to have any...... Any help on this would be much appreciated. My car is an early build (September 1969) if that makes any difference. Thank you, Wayne
  19. Thanks for all the tips I appreciate it! I do have a column shifter..... so good to know!
  20. Surprisingly enough they had it on Amazon! thanks for all your help Paul I really appreciate!!!
  21. Very good! Where should I order one from that's a genuine GM? Any suggestions? What a local parts store carry it?
  22. Oh wait..... do you mean on top of the column at the base under the dash?
  23. Do I have to pull the steering wheel then? If it's at the top of the column I guess I'm having trouble picturing where it is. I do not have tilt....
  24. where is that located and where is the best place to get a good quality one?
  25. Hey everybody! I got a quick question... took the Monte out for a cruise today, and when I shut it off the engine went off like it normally would, but the radio and the dummy lights stayed on;( like when the key is in the on position) but the key was in the off position. I restarted the car and shut it off again, and then it was normal. What might be the cause of this, is something going bad? Thanks, Wayne
