Yeah, you should become a dues paying member.  It is the best $25.00 you could spend.

I spend my money on go fast parts (it shows [at the track]) and food (it also shows 🤣 ). It's not the distance to the National event locations that's keeping me from joining. To the contrary, I drove 7 hrs to a drag race and participated in a five day drag race covering almost 1200 miles. To push me over the line, there needs to be a carrot at the end of a substantial drive, and the carrot needs to involve legal drag racing. I don't fit the normal group demographic, that's OK and I'm not looking to change/influence the group...aside from offer those within driving distance to attend what I think is one of the coolest car-oriented events in northern Ohio.

Yes, Your membership with us and supporting the First Gen Monte Carlo's  could benefit you at this show with maybe a Tent for all your participants there? It's awful there with no shade. Been there with no golf cart or shade to speak of. With all of those Monte Carlo's showing up ,it's going to be a blow out!  Been following you at the F.A.S.T. drags and hope to be there in the following year.... Fingers crossed. Looking good Man !!gallery_1763_8_1413157507_2588.jpg

    See above.

I know what you're saying about shade, I prefer the walking shade of a sombrero to a tent, tents adversely affect the group photo but, I'll leave it to the attendees to decide if they want to put up shade. I truly think it's going to be off the hook...and it's the attendees that will make it special, I'm only encouraging to bring them to come together for a memorable day, or weekend, if they so choose.

I absolutely look forward to seeing you at Martin. The FAST Spring Nationals lands on my birthday this year, and you'd think that's a good thing, but I share birthdays with my Son and I'd be in the doghouse on so many levels if I missed the party to go racing (and he's not too eager to go racing lately).

This is a big missed opportunity imo to create very successful  Midwestern meet out of this if you joined the fgmcc.

    Everyone has wanted that forever

See above, I'm not looking to turn any First-Gens away due to non-membership. I agree with Rob regarding the location as good a Midwestern meet - it too far. Four hours seems to be the limit for most sane people. Luckily, car guys aren't really sane so we still have people willing and able to jump in their First-Gens and drive hundreds of miles to attend car events. These are my people.

13 hours ago, Rob Peters said:

Jared, that area is not far enough west for a Mid-west meet.  We have had meets there before and didn't draw enough members from the mid-west because they felt it was too far east to draw them to attend.

Agree and understandable. The First-Gen Monte Carlo Takeover during the Blue Suede Cruise at Summit Motorsports Park in Norwalk, OH will be a great event for years to come due to the high density of First-Gens in the surrounding areas and strong car culture emanating out of Cleveland and Detroit, and flowing through northwest Ohio. and Toledo. On the other hand, it's been challenging for me to find a similar strong following in the Columbus, OH (central Ohio) area. I'm hopeful the First-Gens start popping out of the woodwork.

Sounds like a fair amount of people may be attending this event. If they were all club members, it would be a fairly decent showing. I'm still up in the air about it right now, but will be researching hotel accommodations to be safe.

47 registered, 25 more say they're "Going" but haven't registered. Could easily see 70-80+. But, let's not count the First-Gens before they drive through the gate. Once I start hearing feedback about how many have pre-purchased their car show entries, I'll get more (more) excited. There's still more than 6 months to go, anything can happen. Gas and internal combustion engines aren't getting more popular, get out and enjoy then while you can!

  2. Please note, even though members of the FGMCC will be in attendance, this is NOT a First Generation Monte Carlo Club event.  This has been added due to the number of questions I have received regarding this event.  Please direct your questions to the originator of this string.  FGMCC MANAGEMENT.

Thought it would be good to give a more detailed update on the event - things are progressing nicely. The guys are doing a good job networking and getting the word out, I think excitement is really building. July is going to be a wild one in Ohio.

  3. Update:
Bill (SMP) messaged back, I’m going to send an updated list, of those registered for the Takeover, monthly. The first 40 attendees have been submitted. I’ll confirm when SMP has sent their communications to you. I’ve also messaged those who have signed up but do not have social media.

Thanks to All that have registered so far.

  5. 12/24/2022 Update:

Merry Christmas Eve to you and your families.

As they say, that escalated quickly...

We're now sitting at 33 officially registered, 37 more that have either responded as “Going” to Facebook event invitations or have otherwise committed to the event, face-to-face. My goal remains get everyone registered who is planning to attend the event, and finish sharing photos of each registered car (see below).

No updates about event T-shirts yet.

If all registered cars make the trip, the long distance awards will go to:

    1. Connelly Springs, NC - about 515 miles
    2. Opdyke, IL - about 483 miles
    3. Evansville, IN - about 430 miles

Northeast Ohio is leading the way by region, with 10, while Northwest Ohio and Southeast Michigan have 6.

    My earlier question still remains...

From looking at the map, Central Ohio is clearly underrepresented. Is it possible that all the First-Gen Monte Carlos have migrated to NE and NW Ohio? I'm not sure, what do you guys think?

    Officially Registered:

The first 32 cars officially registered...

  6. 12/17/2022 Update:

First, Bill Bader, Summit Motorsports Park owner, gave written permission for me to use the track and event logos to promote the event, more on this later. Also, I have been asked again about event T-shirts...I'm considering this, but I'd rather not be involved if I can help it.

Today, we have 26 officially registered, additionally, there are 26 more that have either responded as “Going” to Facebook event invitations or have otherwise committed to the event, face-to-face. My goal is go get everyone registered who is planning to the event, and start sharing photos of each registered car (see below).

If all registered cars make the trip, the long distance awards will go to:

    1. Connelly Springs, NC - about 515 miles
    2. Opdyke, IL - about 483 miles
    3. Evansville, IN - about 430 miles

Northeast Ohio is leading the way by region, with 9, while Northwest Ohio has 6. From looking at the map, Central Ohio is clearly underrepresented. Is it possible that all the First-Gen Monte Carlos have migrated to NE and NW Ohio? I'm not sure, what do you guys think?

Anyhow, the first three cars registered - more to follow.

  7. 21 officially registered.
44 total have either responded as “Going” to Facebook event invitations or have otherwise committed to the event.

Furthest away is Opdyke, IL - about 480 miles away. Second furthest is Evansville, IN - about 430 miles away (which is how far I drove my Monte to go racing last weekend).

My goal is go get everyone registered who is committed to the event.

Northeast Ohio is leading the way by region.

  8. Long post but I thought I'd share an update.

It’s going to be a large event, we could see 50+ First Gen Monte Carlos at the First Gen Monte Carlo Takeover during Blue Suede Cruise at Summit Motorsports Park in Norwalk, OH. I say this after considering how many are "signed up" already, and how many First Gen Monte Carlos are in Northeast Ohio alone (who are t registered)...I'd say it's entirely possible, but not without coordination and communication at the local levels.

    As of 10/5/2022:
20 officially registered (9 are new)
4 who attended last year have not registered but have signed up in the Facebook event invite or I'm fairly confident they will go: (Carlos Cubby Rodriguez, Dennis Tretter, Kaleb Sniezek, Randy Leek)
3 who attended last year have not registered but it is not clear if they plan to attend (Matt Sabo, Jim Sennhenn, Jim Walker)
12 who have expressed genuine interest but have not officially registered

That gives us up to 39 as of today.

I'd like to have everyone who is planning to attend register. Having your email address is one of the most direct ways of communicating without needing to depend on Facebook's algorithms to ensure everyone received a message. I'd like to put out another survey to see if the group would have interest in a dash plaque or T-shirt for the event? I understand some can't (or won't) register, but what I do need to work toward is a number to communicate to the track owner for our space next year...

    Link to register:
    https://forms.gle/bqWWJwXqved68iH57

These images were taken before receiving the two most recent registrations. Of the 18 registered so far, half are 1970.

There's an even split between 350 vs. 454.

    Most have a TH400 transmission.

    Most have 12-Bolt rear ends.

    Most run 3.73 gears.

  9. I drove two hours, 130+ miles one way, and spent $15 in tolls to get to this show…and I’d do it again. 500+ cars, a well run show, and a great shaded location. No glamour shots of my car 😂 got excited and forgot.

The interesting part of the drive…

  11. I’ve created a public event on Facebook in the group OHIO CAR SHOWS AND CRUISE INS linked below. For those apprehensive about signing up for a public event on Facebook…only your friends (people you’ve accepted friend requests from) and I can see your response. The OHIO CAR SHOWS AND CRUISE INS event will be the main invite in the future.

The space the track owner allocated to us is good for about 30 First-Gens, if you’re seriously planning on this event, please sign up so I know if we need more space. The track owner is excited to see how we do and I can probably get a few more spaces if needed.

    Thanks
