That carb fuel issue was what I wanted to address. The very first time it wouldnt start I think it was a mixture of flooding/semi stuck float and rigged carb. Today i put a good batt in it. Turned it over once and it fired right up. I was expecting to half to tap the carb as suggested but no leakage. At all. My goal was to get it to my property. The fact that the carb didnt leak and the transmission worked with fresh fluid Ill take as a win. The lady was even "you believe me know? I wasnt lieing". Her man got it running. Thats about it . I have other daily drivers. This one is for the maybe one day a week Im not driving my work truck. She also had a buncha resto books she gave me. I belive her when she says she drove it daily. But I want it running to its full potential. When im driving i dont wanna worry about stalling or fire or my transmission falling out.lol. -

So. I bought the car sat night from the neighbor. Worked all day sunday. So today Ive been tinkering with it for the past hr. Put a batt in it, fired right up. Oil&Water good. Its missing the air filter so it idles a lil high. Driver side exhaust put out considerable white smoke that smells like gas for about 2min then cleared up for most part. No temp gauge. Just dummy light😞. Checked the transmission for fluid. BONE dry. Added fluid to stick level. Shifts into all gears now. I let it idle for around 5 min. Drove it to my yard. The electric fan never kicked on but Theres alot of questionable wiring going on in the car. I agree the in line filter needs changed asap. Its slightly warped and getting old temp cracks in it. -

I will get measurements when i get home. The more i look at it i think the original owner might have had engine work done and was in the process of getting it all back together. So in you guys opinions, would you say its a a good setup. Far as trans/motor/car setup? -

Im just happy to have a good idea on what it is now. What is it that still makes it a 402. I cant really find much more than this. Would it still be considered a original-ish motor to the car? -

Yay! Update. Ive located the engine block number on backside/driverside near bellhousing. There were also some other numbers near the same area. Also on the passenger side behind the block i found what im guessin might be a mnfg date? Found out I have some loose and missing bellhousing bolts. -

Yeah i tried cleaning the pic up a little. Just a booger not really knowing what it is. Ive been snapping scrn shots from a short video. Also ran across this which at first look maybe looks like numbers i didnt catch on the front of the block but it may be nothing. Either way Im still siked. -

Thanks Rob. I can post more random engine pics if it may help. It was just weird that I cant find that sequence on any block sites. It all seems fairly clean too. The previous owner (half crazy lil ol lady) had mentioned when we first began to talk that they paid 5k in the engine.... Then proceeded to take considerably less for the whole car. -

This is right behind the alternator on the block/small cliff. The first few letters seem pretty legible but i cant find them anywhere on a search. I will look on driverside, right of the fan tomorrow morning. As for a carb, I do not have one available. Dont exactly like the fact the previous owner like to jerry-rig things.lol. they seem pretty pricy. Thing a rebuild kit and cleaning may fix it? If they were driving it like that wonder what else is rigged in order to make that work!? -

Hey guys. I tried joining membership but this page was displayed. I got home later than anticipated. It was dark so i did a quick video to check out some of the things mentioned. I found this on the block behind the alternator. Looks like T4121TR6 best i can see it atm. Cant find a internet match though. I also took a few of the Transmission. Kinda hard to see under there. I hope you guys dont mind me posting all the pics. Its just exciting. As for what I want from the car... Well im a Cruiser. Not really worried about speed. I love the Power of what I consider a true American Muscle Car. When that thing fired up... Man.. I had to have it. Im a family man with wife and kids. This is my baby. I want it to be just a Sweet Car to take out now n again. Ive always wanted like a late 60s Impala. I seen this car a year ago and wanted it every day I past it. Man them curves. Anyways thx guys. You guys have been great. Totally worth 35 bucks to have a army of car specific mechanics helping me out. Ive worked on several cars in the past 69Dart. 73 impala. 79 ford. Just never had what i would consider a massive motor all souped up dropped in my lap. Whole new ball park. Heres a pic of the shifter and im also pointing at where the gas pukes out all over the carb while its idling. When you give it gas it lessons but still leaks. When I finally get home today i plan on gettin set up as a member. The major thing that worries me is the car was dropped in her yard by a semi car hauler. She claims it shifted no problem before it was hauled but it drug frame coming off the trailer now the shifter is lifeless. Im hoping, fingers crossed its just the linkage. Id hope the lil ol lady wouldnt lie. It has emissions in the windshield from 2020. She also said it use to be light blue. Bought it last night. Havent had time to really inspect it. Thx. Will. -

Wow. Thanks for all the info guys! I had a suspicion it was kinda a Frankenstein. Like ive read the headlights should be square on a 71 so that was a little confusing. Also the seats are bucket seats. Im at work today until around 4 so I may be a little slow replying to you guys. I will look for blk numbers when i get home today. Im also going to post some random pics of it to maybe help identifying everything. Thank you soooo much. Will. -

Admired my neighbors car for past year. It never moved. Talked to her for the first time yesterday and she offered to sell me the car. Her husband past a year ago. She sold it to me for 1600.00. She says it has a 400 in it. The shifter has been removed from the column now theres a shifter on the floor with PNRD21. Told her no problem as long as it fires up. We put a battery in it and it fired up on second try. Sounded like a drag car idling (in a good way) for about 20sec then died out. I also noticed it spewing gas out of the top back pipe on the carb making a mess. I just dont know much about it. I can say i LoVe the curves and even in the condition it is I feel it was a good deal. If someone can tell me more about it i can provide additional pic. Thx. Will

My neighbor has had a beautiful "Old car" parked beside her house since she moved in a year ago. I never spoke with her until I happen to see her in her yard today. Told her I loved the car, she replied wanna buy it! She asked 2k, I offered $1600 and it was mine. Turns out its a 71MC. She claims its a 400 v8. It turned right over and started up but i noticed the carb was pouring fuel out the top pipe between the barrels on the back makin a mess. It sounded great but looped bad like a idling drag car for about 15sec before it died out. It has a big 4bl holley carb on it. I noticed the column has a shifter space/hole but its got a automatic floor shifter with pnd21. Did they make a 400v8 with a 2auto? Or is it all chopped up? Either way I feel it was well worth the cash. Wish i could figure out how to post a pic.
