All steering columns in 71 Montes were black.
1970 was the only year you could get a coloured steering column. In 70 nearly all SS cars had a black column but a few got out with a coloured column.
I did not know that about the 71 Montes.
My 70 SS has a black column btw
Thanks

I'd be interested to know if mileage in fact was accurate.

There was no SS steering wheel that was part of the SS package. If you ordered an SS in 71 you still got the standard Monte wheel unless you also ordered the 4-spoke sport wheel. Note that no steering wheel said SS on it in a Monte.
And the only paint color would be black on the steering column on an SS

While I agree with you, it hardly qualifies as disturbing the originality, there simply was no need to;
I also really didn't want to remove or disturb anything, bc it was an original find and I was selling it that way. Even though the car was like a brand new Monte with so few miles, there was nothing otherwise very special. 1972 350 2 bbl. no AC, no power options.
Now, if this were an SS, or a Custom...then we're talking!

Because removing the back seat hardly qualifies as disturbing the originality. Particularly when a Build Sheet might be present to corroborate the authenticity of rare option(s).
And now that I think of it, I remember seeing the original listing for this car. Quite a time capsule, indeed.
Now call the dude you sold it to and have him poke around for a Build Sheet!

I’ve seen two very low mile 72 Montes with vinyl roof trim but the car is all one colour. Was this an option? Has anyone else seen this?
I did see a 71 Monte at a Western Meet that was the same way. It had the vinyl roof trim with the paint code 6767 indicating the lower and upper colours was classic copper.
Below is a photo and body tag of a 11,000 mile Monte that is Mojave Gold up and down. Note the code 6363 on the body tag.
This one below just popped up on Facebook
This first car at top of post was actually my 8,000 mile (Mojave Gold) 72 Monte.
I sold it to a fellow in British Columbia about 4 years ago when the odometer just turned to 11,000.
I was going to make a post seeing if anyone knew why this very odd combination occurred?I do know this car is 100% original: it sat in garage for 34 Years and was never touched.

I too went directly to the good part.
Funny though, at 17:17 when they say, "oh look, another car!" I thought it was a 70 monte, bc there were green door panels standing in foreground. They were actually green SHUTTERS! Those shutters do kinda resemble 70 monte door panels!

I found this seller online a few years ago and bought several items from him at very reasonable prices.
He's a wealth of information & a very nice fellow to speak with.
I was looking for factory GM NOS parts for my Monte and he really delivered! Grille emblem, hood spear and bumper guards.
His name is Denver Gatrell, Berlin Center, Ohio 330-547-2139.
Give him a try if you're looking for something specific.

Thanks. There is a guy on ebay that does a real nice job too, was wondering if it was possibly his work.
Good luck with sale, that's a very reasonable price nowadays. The shipping to the US may be pricey though?
Shipping to US would be just $45!

I remember the thrill of going to the junkyard in the 80's and finding several Montes, Chevelles, (other classics) to pick thru.
Once a month it was all you can physically carry to the front gate for $50!
Go thru a yard today, and it's nothing but 4 door sedans and mini trucks! ahh...the good ol days!

I bought it from Gary Thorne. He restores power seat units.

A 70 Dennis. But the add states it has a build date of Sept 1970, which should be the build date for a 71. Lol
But the peeled door sticker says 1969, lol

Its been completely taken apart, stripped, dipped, painted and rebuilt.

BUMP!! POWER BUCKET SEAT BRAND NEW REBUILT!
Hi guys, am seeing if there's any interest here before I go to the Evilbay (or other!)
I was going to put this into another Monte, but ended up selling it before I got the chance.
This is a very rare factory option and is complete (with mounting brakets, harness and switch.)
Also open to trades.
Thanks, Jeff

looking forward to see how much Jared's old car sells for!

The emblem will not properly attach to the grille unless it is correct for the year.
The mounting posts on back of emblem conflict with bars on grille.
Here's the link to the Roman numerals for proper year.

I feel Chevrolet shoule have made a Monte drop-top. Unfortunately if someone wants one they will have to make one using Chevelle, olds or Buick parts.
I would love to to have a properly converted convert and the only way to do it would be to use parts from other donors. That said, O would not say it isn't a Monte anymore.
rob
I too would love to havve seen a factory convertible made.
In these days of 3D printing, etc I wonder if someone will come out with a retractable hardtop roof. (Neatly tucked away in the trunk of course!)
Now THAT would be cool!

I truly doubt this was done at dealer from new. Who was doing that in 72?
Chevelle interior, cutlass top, it's not a Monte anymore (IMHO) but is a nice car.
Not my taste.... good luck to the seller

Shipping would be double that. Thank you for the offer though.

YUK! That black 70 should have gone for maybe $10k...Man! what a ROUGH CAR! Whoever bought it better be a body man / painter!
Depending upon what's discovered once sanded down, I'm sure it would cost $25,000 just at the bodyshop!
