  1. for just street, the Edelbrock would my choice, easy to tune too

actually...I would send that Qjet out and get the shafts rebushed, make sure the mail wells don't leak, put a float and a rebuild kit in it, and probably still be cheaper than buying a new carb

X2 ditto I love the Q-Jet and they will flow just as much as a Holley 750.

  2. I got a story on timing... Changed the plugs and wires on my daughters 2000 Blazer the other day. 4.3L Vortec...

I thought it had a "Correct-a-cap" type cap... Nope... On the even side yes,,, The odd side is 3-1-5. Couldn't figure out why the stupid thing was missing so bad. crazy

  3. Sounds like you are tracking it down. Sounds like it may still be running a little rich, not sure why just 2 and 4 are black.

Reading through this tread just reinforces the fun??? I'm going to have trying to tune my TPI system...

  4. Nice indeed even did the brake hardwear make sure it gets all lubed up on the pivot points.Anything that moves needs some sort of lube. Nice work, be carefull that crossmember dont gouge the wall up.

yeah Momma won't be happy if you mess up her walls...

Nice work though and a nice set-up on the booth.

  5. Looks great!

I did the same thing while I had mine off the frame after I replaced the floor pans. Put 2 coats of POR-15 under there and then 2 coats of roll on truck bed liner inside and out. I don't want to have to replace the floors again. smile

  6. Thanks Alex. The fluid did smell slightly burnt but I was hoping to put a rebuild. But I only paid $65 for the trans so no big loss there.

The 200-4r does regulate the pressure with the TV cable. Not sure about the regular 200's they probably did have the kick downs like the 350's.

I'm going to start collecting parts for an overhaul... And I so much wanted to be able to go cruising in this by the end of summer. frown

  7. Winston, I've read through that article a few time and have it saved as a favorite. As I am debating rebuilding it myself if I can't find another answer.

Grease, I do have the original console shifter but I did swap out the detent plate with one from the "Shift Works" instal kit.

This just really baffles me. I think the Low and Reverse share the same gear set but the Low also has to engage the forward clutch pack and mine don't seem to release it in Reverse... confused

  8. Thanks guys. I'm leaning toward an internal issue but I am going to double check the linkage and shifter cable again.

the linkage set up is from a stock TPI off an 89 IROC-Z.

Anybody ever rebuilt one of these at home?

  9. Ok so I finally got to drive my car for the first time in 16 years today. smile but It don't have reverse, actually, when you put it in reverse it tries to go forward just like it's in 1st gear. It didn't really feel like it was shifting in from first or second either. But I did get it up to about 30 mph.

This is a 200-4R tranny. I got the tv cable adjusted correctly, to the best of my understanding. Now granted this was a junk yard tranny that was sold to me as a "core" but when I pulled the pan it was really clean so I took my chances. But it sounds like I lost that bet. Or am I missing something? Is there an easy fix? Or is it time to pull it and rebuild?

    Thanks

    Steve

  10. Well the BOP is GM. Not sure if they are totally compatible with a Chevy rear but I would think they are. I have an Olds Rear in mine. The pumpkin was a bit different than my old one witch required me to shorten my drive shaft, I think it is a a HD version. It came out of an Olds Cutlass 442 and has 3:73 Posi.

As for the spool, it is my understanding that you want to stay away from those on street driven cars since there is not slip between axles when going around turns which leads to broken axles. On the other hand I have heard of people using them on the street BUT they also ran Heavy Duty after market axles.

  11. I know my 700R4 dip stick did not fit my 200-4r. the 200-4r location is about 6 inches farther back on the tranny than the 700 which I think is the same as the 350 and P.G. I might have been able to make it fit if I would have been putting it in with the tranny instead of putting it in with the tranny already in the car.

  12. It is normal when first started. It blows out any condensation etc. It is more frequent with newer cars that have catalitic converters. the "Cats" exchange the Nitrous Oxides in the exhaust and produce water vapor in the exchange. I beleive this is why most new cars come with stainless steel exhaust systems now.

I would not worry about but you should check you oil and make sure it is not milky looking. If it is this is an indication of a blown head gasket.

  13. I had a bunch of that info. I will have to look on my other computer when I get home. I got mine out of an 85 Monte SS. It bolted right up. Just had to slide the cross member around. I think mine is a COQ code which is for the 85 MC SS with a 3:73 rear gear. I think the speed-o out put is just like the original on our cars, I will have to change mine though for the TPI setup I have. Here is a link for info on them:

    Link 1

    Rebuild info

As I said I will try to find that other link that shows which tranny's came from what cars. I do think the general consenses is that the GN Valve bodies are the best ones and the MC's are next. Also the newer the version the stronger they are as far as input shafts, better pumps (more vanes) etc.

    Hope this helps,

    Steve
