Thanks Guys!
Dave, NO! I have a hard enough time doing it for myself. It took so darn long to weld that thing and not warp it! That hood and cowl have been sitting for over a year, I finally got my butt in gear.
Scott, I cut the center of the vents out and patched it in before putting the cowl on. I like the vents in the back. I cut the cowl so the trim can go on the back also.

I found a old hood and decided to build a hood. Here it is welded up and roughed in and primed. I really needed the carb clearance and now I can put a spacer under the carb. I think it should help it pick up a little bit. The plan is to build a air pan under the carb and seal it to the hood.

I have to agree with Sam. Something is not right, I have 4.10 gears and 28 inch tall tires around 3700 at 70

Sounds like a fun build.

What is your plan for valves, springs, retainers, guide plates and rocker studs? Do they list a recommended valve length? That would be a help.
What are they going on?
I like that they post flow numbers up to an inch! That would be an adventure.
Looking forward to some pictures.

If I had a 43 year old engine with 230,000 miles, I would do nothing to it to increase power. The money you would spend on a supercharger would go a long way on a good rebuild.

Started work on a cowl hood, need carb clearance.

That or 3.55

I have 4.10s. It is not a highway cruiser that's for sure! My main goal is the track so that is ok. An overdrive would help but most first gears in overdrive trannys have a deep first gear, combine that with the 4.10s and you have a really short first gear that is hard to hook up. A 4l80 trans has a better first gear but it is big and heavy and you need a controller. Another option is a gear vendors O/D.

They probably are 64cc heads they will bump your compression up. But I bet they have no accessory holes.
-
I drilled four 1/2 inch holes in mine, then made matching 1/4 inch plates to sandwich the loop to the floor pan. I used 1/2 grade 8 bolts and tacked the heads to the plates so I could tighten them easily.

Agree with Sam, I don't like the 1 - 2 shift on a 700

Dave,
I run a bronze tipped hollow rod no issues.

5/8 18 Top bolt on the spindle

Mark, let me also thank you for your service to our country.
Thoughts and Questions.
What are you plans for trans? O/D would be nice, especially with 3.73 gears.
The dual plane intake sounds good for a carbed application. I don't think the 800 eddy would be too much, it is a air valve secondary. Fuel injection would be nice, I don't know if it would be better on a single plane intake.
Don't buy push rods until you can confirm length after assembly. I use Smith brothers.
I use Coan for torque converters. I have no idea who does the converters for OPGI.
I am sort of Iffy on the cam and 1.6 rockers I guess I would make the final decision after the injection / carb issue is sorted out
Have fun with it!

I have the big block version, it works well.
Dave, how much clearance do you have at the inlet fitting?
-
Dan,
I think the 1 3/4 headers would work fine on your combo. it would probably make more torque.
The hookers work with both moroso and miloden pans with kick outs, I see no reason that they would not work with a stock pan that is smaller.

I have a Auto Meter play back tach. When I down load my run I see the exact rpm that I choose for my launch on my MSD. I also have hit the the high limit chip a few times and it has never gone over 7000.
I still have the factory tach and it is slow to respond and then swings past the RPMs that the Auto Meter shows.

For a mild 454 I would go with the 1 3/4" Dougs. I run the 2" Hooker comps, not the super comp. Like Sam said with Hookers you have to move the proportioning valve mounted to the frame rail. I am pretty sure we put Dougs Jack Coopers Monte. I think that we had to notch the rear lower A frame mount on the passenger side when we put them on

I like the 200 R4 for your power level. I never cared for the 1-2 gear splits in the 700

3/8 16 x 1 1/4

I would pull the cap. You should also support the engine.

Dave,
At that altitude do you need oxygen?
