  1. If you want a nice TH 350 and not in a hurry, I will have mine out later this year. It is a real smooth shifter and I'd like to find a nice home for it- preferably in another Monte!!
  2. I have looked into this same setup for my '72. The crossmember will move back about 3" and you may have to drill 2 new holes in the frame on each side for the new location. I have not looked yet to see if there is another set. The drive shaft has to be shortened about 3". Mark where your drive shaft is not in relation to the rear end and then put the drive shaft in the new tranny and measure the difference. Have a good driveshaft shop do the shortening and the balancing. You can get a TV cable kit from a lot of places and you'll need it. Good luck!
  3. I have been doing a lot of research on putting a 700R4 in my '72. There are many ways to do it according to the trans shops and speed shops in the area. It can be wired with the switch so you can shut it off when you put your foot in it. It can be wired to the brake switch so it shuts off if you hit the brakes and it can be set up to always lock up in high gear. But if you slow down, it will lug at slow speeds but the trans will most likely shift down to 3rd or 2nd and unlock it automatically. And if you put your foot in it, it will downshift to 3rd and unlock. Remember, when they put these in cars as standard equipment, they had no switch on the dash so getting it wired to work automatically is the least bother unless you are racing it. Also, get an '87 to '92 trans. Prior to that, the shops said they had a lot of problems and after they they were electronic. I hope this helps. If you want my research, I have it ina word document that is too long to post here. Send me your E mail and I'll forward it to you. Keep in touch in case we have questions along the way. Thanks, Jim

The difference would be noticed in the shifts. The P Glide would be a 2 speed and the TH 350 is a 3 speed. I have never seen a Monte with a Glide but it could be possible!!!!!! Have you ever thought of a 700R4 with a lock up converter as an option? Or, are you trying to stay strictly stock? You get an extra gear and first gear is 3.06 in the 700R4 instead of 2.52 in the TH 350. Thanks, Jim
  5. Does anyone have a suggestion for a floor shifter to use on a 700R4 tranny in a '72 Monte with a bench seat? I'm changing it to get better mileage with the extra gear. Thanks, Jim in Grand Rapids, Mi
