Great find there Arron, to bad you can't keep them all as they look right at home together in the garage.

Wouldn't mind seeing that myself I've been running WIX filters for awhile on my Olds and now Monte.

Thanks that's what I thought I'm going to have to take it apart again to see if I can get a good contact between the socket and housing I just did not want to pull it apart.

Finally got to take the Monte for it's maiden voyage had to get a motor vehicle inspection to get it plated but it ran great and no problems. So now its plated I can drive it whenever but still have a few things to do (radio, package tray and hood insulation pad). Waxed it up to get rid of some of the fading on the original paint but it looks good for 42 yr old paint the dings and dents gives it character.

Got a problem with the ID light, new bulb works only if I ground the bulb socket but don't when I try grounding the hole light housing. There seems to be a plastic or rubber washer between the socket and the housing so what grounds the bulb. All my other lights work fine.

Thanks for the input. I haven't got around to starting the car yet waiting on my distributor should have that the weekend and when I get it running I will disconnect the wire and see what happens. Oh I don't have any after market add on's in the car as it's all original.

I have a small gauge pink wire plugged into the ignition terminal on my fuse panel, can anyone tell me what it is for I want to plug my hei wire into that space. The car is a 71 with AC but no other options and it looks like the wire heads up to the instrument panel somewhere and looks to be factory installed. If not I will splice it into the hei wire.

Got my seats installed after I recovered them, went with vinyl and left the buttons of previous where cloth. I think they turned out pretty good.
Pics are in the link below not sure if I can just take the pictures from there and post them in here.

Anybody ever see these before or used them, it's the first I knew of them. There are a couple of them for the 70 & 71 Monte. You can even put a part number in the search part and it will find it. Might be usefull looking up parts if you had a number.

By looking at the badging on the rear it must be one of those rare Hurst Monte Carlo's built. It will be interesting to see if someone goes for it being the real deal.

Replacing the ball joints and cleaning up the front suspension and chassis area. I took apart the front brakes and spindles well everything was really clean just grease on them. The original colour on the backing plates and the gold plating still on the caliper brackets. When I cleaned the spindles they appear to be a blue or green originaly one with a white stripe the other with a red one, anyone know if they where blue or green from the factory. But best of all no rust.

Thanks Bruce.

Thanks good info, I realy didn't want to pull the dash.

I have a question did you have to remove the dash to get the gauge cluster out or can this be done with just the pad of. I have to replace my circuit board and I hate the thought of removing the dash.

Mike the part number is 31011 by Dorman.
Scott they use a 93-98 Jeep Grand Cherokee steering box as an up grade. It has a less turn radious and gives a stiffer feel,I know my Cutlass when you drove it your hand was always moving the wheel because of play but when I upgraded it handled like a newer car it was the best thing I did to the car.
Here is a link that sums it up.

I got my rag joint at Rock Auto I think it cost me about $75 and you could get one from Lee Mfg where you buy the little inserts that go in the box I would assume he has good rag joints as building boxes is his business.

I added a rear sway bar and upgraded the front with a 1.25 sway bar of a 80 Formula Firebird to my 73 Cutlass and I can say it was one of the best upgrades I done to the car along with the Jeep GC steering box. I will pobably do the same to my Monte when I get around to driving it.

Bruce thats what I got, the car came with options A51 & D55, I thought it was strange the car hasn't been on the road since 98 so I guess there is no way to know if its original unless I can contact the 2nd owner he had the car for 18ys and purchase it it 1973. As for being an early 70 build the last number on the ser# are 33645. Thanks for the input.

The came with console, that option is on the sheet from GM and the column has no provision for the shifter on it. Got to look in to it more. Unless someone wanted to have that and put it in after. I might try to track down the first to owners as I said I have receipts for everything else done to the car. Thanks

I got the documents from Canada GM VIntage and the options says black cloth buckets and console. The cowl tag also notes buckets. I wonder if any early cars ended up that way. I know the gauge housing was repaired in 1995 by the headlight switch because there was a lange speaker put in on that side and broke the housing, unless the speedo went and that's what it was replace with, seem like a lot of trouble to do that I,m sure a correct one must have been easier to find in the early 90's or 80's.
-
I think thats what it's doing. It moves to the correct gear on the dash as it does on the console shifter. I'll have to check it out more, probably take the dash out and clean it up anyway. Just got the car so I'm finding differnt things out.

Seat Covers
in Interior Tech
Posted
When I purchased my bench seat covers from PUI my understanding that the bolster was the in the bottom seat covers and when installed you had a seam running the full length of the seat that gave it that puffy look. There is a rod running the full length of the seat bottoms that hog ties to the seat springs and that's how you get that look. You can see this in the link below on the bench seats bottoms front and rear. I think that's what it's called.
