Ok; now a new issue... My Boyfriend was over at his cuz's house again today getting the last bit of the stuff put back on her (dash pad, new seal for the thermostat housing etc...)Because he was trying to get it done for me for Mothers day, so I could cruse it this weekend with the kids.
Any way, So he started it up and pulled it out of his cuz's shop, and took it on a short test drive, got to the corner (not even a block) and it back fired and died as he tried to take the turn from a stop. He tried to start it back up and now it is not turning over at all.
Do you think the distributor coil fried?
Or could it be something else?
I am wondering if we should just try and run a new wire to it and see if it works... I found a diagram on line but don't know if its correct for out first gen Monte's. (I don't have a tach)

Sweet!
Just got a text from my boyfriend, Mike, he went over to his cuz's house today with my little boy and tinkered with the distributor, and now Alize starts and shuts off with the key. Guess there was a yellow wire that was wired in that was not factory, from the guy who had the car before me (original owner) and that must have been the Jerry Rig we some how fixed with redoing the wires.
He said he disconnected it and now it starts and shuts off like it did before. Crazy... Just glad it is fixed, so maybe can get Alize home now by or before Friday!
WoooHooo!

did you check to see if there is power at those wires with the key off?
Run a 12 volt wire from the fuse block to the distributor. Hook it up at the IGN point on the fuse block.
Cool!
I will check if its getting power with the key off at the distributor as it is. And if its not, Guessing that is not the issue, and we will have to try some wire and connectors to the fuse block to it.
My boyfriend, Mike, is going over to his cuz's house to do a little work on it, and they may try and tinker with it today as I am at work.

That is what I was wondering, think the guy who had it before me may not have wired it correctly and jarry rigged it, and when I took out old wires and redid them from the bat to the terminal on the fire wall just before the fuse block it must have fixed the jerry rig on it and now its not letting it shut off.
I will check to see if it is getting power when we go to work on it on Friday and Sat. (its at my BF's cuz's house, he is helping us redo the wiring) and we are all baffled on the no stop when key is off and then now the oil light also stays on when key is off and out. crazy and getting frustrated with it.

I am wondering if we fixed a old jerry rig, by mistake, from before I got Alize. Cuz there looks to be a wire spliced into the distributor. (I'm confused on this stuff sorry, I suck at wiring)

Red... and we replaced with red.

No... just put in some RCA's for my amp to my head unit (stereo) under the dash. But did jot mess with any wiring in the dash.
We did run new power from the bat to just befor the fuse block on the motor side of the fire wall.
-
I will check that as soon as the guys finish playing with the speakers. Also I forgot to mention that the oil light stays on now too for some reason even with the key off and key out. Never did that either before.
-
With the rewire and cut off of crap not needed I some how messed something up so now my car starts as normal but when I turn the key off it dues not turn off.
What do I need to look for or do to get it to kill it at turn off. Is there a solenoid bad? Is there a ground needed? Etc?
We took off the voltage regulator since I dont have heat or ac on the car any more and we have a new style alternator and HEI on it.
Please help.

Took out all the heater core and box crap from under Alize's dash
All nice and open now...
Using an old 1971/1972 plate I found at a swop meet to fill in the hole to be a little different.
Took out all the seats and dash to run new wires under the carpet and threw the dash and back seat area.
Some of the new wires going from bat #3 to bat #4 and the system.
Bat #1 starts the car and runs the head lights dash lights power windows and other stock accessories.
Bat #2 is hooked to bat #1 and #3 to get power and to give power to the system, and bat #3.
Bat #3 is for the air ride.
Bat #1 and #3 will have an isolater between them so when the car is not running Bat #3 and #4 will not be drawing from bat #1. So I can play my system and play with the air ride at car shows with out worry about not being able to start the car after.
But when its running the alternator will charge all 3 bats.
We should have her all done by this coming weekend. we have been taking a little longer to finish her to try and do some extra clean up since we have her pulled apart so far. I plan to shampoo the carpets and maybe spot die them since there are areas I found that are starting to fade from age (sun)
Can't wait to get her done and cruising! Been a long winter!

cool car keep the pictures coming how does it ride with air ride.
It rides better then stock, at least I think it dues. As long as you are not riding with out enough air in the air ride. LoL

My winter project has been ripping out and redoing the wiring in Alize... There was a lot of crappy work done in it due to so many so called electrical professionals touching it over the years. (Hack Jobs!)
So doing it up right now... Hope to have it almost done by this weekend. Since it has taken over 3 months to track down and red do it all. Got help from my man's cuz's hubby who knows wiring extra well in cars.
A Few Pics of the process:
Some New power Next to the Old
Some of the new power and ground we are using
Custom Loom Work we are working on, may be changed before we finish. but seems to be working well.
I will post more pics as we get more done. Hard to see what we have done in the pics I have already taken. Basically we are removing all unneeded wiring, and updating all we can with out tearing everything apart. also redoing all the new wire that has been put in or spliced in in the last 10y that I have had it by people who thought they knew what they where doing. By the time I am done Alize will have 3 bats. One to start the car only and run some small accessories. One to run the sound system only, and one to run the air ride only.
-
I would like to see pics of that as well, since as of now, i can't drive if my air ride was to go out. But I also have lowering spindles in the front as well, so I lay cross member when I do let out all of the air.
-
Thanks, Anyone here using 2" drop spindles on their car ? Any pictures?
I am useing them on my 71 Monte. I also upgraded to a bigger spindel and bigger breaks/calapers, so it stops better.
I love them. They work great with my Air Ride all the way around
-
No I did not need different fenders...
Unless you are talking about the fender wells... (front) then yes, I did, becuse I have wider and bigger rims then the stock ones.
The rear fenders had plenty of room to accommodate the bigger rims and air ride set up tho.
-
Doing some more custom work on ol' Alize...
Fab'n up some custom inner fender wells for under the hood...
Befor Fender wells
Starts on the after... Trying to get the parts tacked on and looking good...
-
The back is a little more then the front by about 1"

They are a 20"x9.5"

We had 13 Montes at a show where My Classic Car was filming in 2008 (Peach City Beach Cruise, Penticton, BC) and we managed to get quick shot on the episode. We informed Dennis about the club and even got a group photo with him. Hope to see your car on the show.
Sweet! Do you know if they have arred it on TV yet?
I am looking to see when they will be arring the one with mine. Hope they keep the full 5 to 8 min they shot of her and of my interview. Gave them a lot of info about the car, why I did it, and the club I am part of (FGMCC). He seembed pritty impressed that a girl did most of her own work and loves the car sean.
-
Thanks, It took over 10y to get her to where she is, and I still have a list of small things to do to her over the next year or two. I like to take my time, Can't rush prefection.
-
I can't wait to see it... They talked to me for a few min about the Monte and got about 5min worth of walking around it and inside it. Just hope they use most of it.
They even asked what car club or clubs I was in, and let them know as they interviewed me. So the FGMCC will be spotlighted with Ol' Alize LowRod too.
-
My Alize LowRod is featured at Slamology 2011 on this My Classic Car preview for the show coming in 2012 on My Classic Car… Keep a look out for Ol’ Alize. I am going to try to record it when it comes on.
It is featured at about 1:28 mark in the short clip.

Oh yeah... And here is a short video clip of my new horn... It is an old sirin from around the 1950's that my BF got for me.
It is too cool, since I love diforent stuff and to be diforent when it comes to my car.
I was kicking around the idea for train horns, but every one has them, so I started looking at the train wistels, but they where still a little too pricy for me, so this siren was found in my BF's stuff in storrage an we hookd it up... And I fell in love. The longer you hold it in, the louder it gets... the shorter bursts you do, it is not as loud.
This video is a few shorter burts...

Ok, now he just texted me and said that they jumped it and it started...
UGH!
Wonder if the batteries where just not charged or something?
or maybe my alternator is going bad or has died and is not charging?
