  1. I'm running a 383 in my 1971 Monte Carlo. I also have a 3.55 rear gear. My transmission is a 350 turbo that was rebuilt about 20 some years ago. I have not had any problems, but I do not drive the car that often anymore. I had been running a strong 355 for up until the 383 was installed about 9 years ago. I did drive the car much more often. I also was not afraid to run it hard.

  2. I'm going to send it out and have it gone thru. I have an aftermarket floor shifter. So I will have the column made into a floor shift column. Just have to pull it out and ship it. Talked to Bob from steering column pros this afternoon.   www.steeringcolumnpros.com

  3. My new bow set came today. This color code is correct with what they sent.

All headliner bows are color coded for easy installation. Most vehicles have 4 to 6 bows, however, your vehicle may take more bows or less bows (e.g., 1964 El Camino has a two bow headliner and would take only the red and white bows.)

The windshield will be our starting point.

    1. Your first color is red (windshield)

    2. Your second bow color is white

    3. Your third bow color is blue

    4. Your fourth bow color is black

    5. Your fifth bow color is green

    6. Your sixth bow color is yellow

    7. Your seventh bow color is orange

    8. Your eighth bow color is gold

  4. My friend bought a 70 Monte and the Headliner was gone for the most part. We are not sure if the bows were in the right places. Ordered a new headliner and marked were each bow was located. Tried to install the headliner and the bows will not stay in the "up" position.

I see you can order new bows and they are color coded. There is no color code on the roof were the holes at located. So I'm thinking color code bows may not help me. Has anyone run into this problem? If so what did you do. Any helpful suggestions would be appreciated.

    Thanks

    Dale

  5. Wow that thing pops!  On my computer, it looks orange....what color is it?   Give us the specs!

    Congrats!

It is red. Yes in the pics it does look orange. We are going to build a 396 for it. We have the new carpet for it, new grant steering wheel is on, seats are going to be recovered, B&M ratchet shifter. We need to go thru the brakes, the right front caliper is froze up. The plan is to have it going by late summer. Just depends on my health and the funds. I have Parkinson's so some days I'm just not able to do much. This project gives me reason to push on!

  6. That is what happens with mine. After sitting for a couple weeks it starts to "leak" again.

This is what I think is going on. I first thought maybe one of the cooler lines came loose and drained the cooler...nope both were tight. Fluid was coming out from the top of the tube like it was overfilled. Then the level dropped once I ran the car so I'm thinking it filled the converter back up. I guess it fixed itself because its been sitting a few days and its still not leaking.

  7. I have run into this on my 71 with  a 350 and my son's 72 with a 350 turbo. After the cars sit for a week or three I would notice a leak on both cars. At first I thought it was the pan leaking from the front. I changed the gasket a few times and it would always end up leaking again. Then I thought maybe it was the front seal on the transmission. After further investigation it looked like it was coming from around the dip stick tube. So new O ring was installed. Still after awhile it would leak again. Now it appeared it was coming from around the detent cable. I started doing research online and found this is a common problem. What happens is after the car sits for a long period of time the fluid in the torque converter leaks back in to the pan. All the extra fluid in the pan has to go some were. So it leaks out were it can. What I have done to fix it is   1. Start the car once a week. or   2. Put a bowl under the car to catch the fluid.

  8. What is the old saying?  A chain is only as stong as it's weakest link.  If it were me I would go thru the whole engine. Are you doing all the work yourself? If not, you could end up paying a lot on labor having to pull the engine twice.

  9. Thanks for posting the pixs. I really don't see any retainer or anti rotators. Mind you the hole I'm looking thru the head is small. I guess I just need to  take the intake off and see what is in there.
