  1. I am working to restore/upgrade one of my 70 SSs and am wanting to add the power drivers seat. I understand that the seat track mounting brackets are different for the power seat than they are for the regular (non-power) but am not sure how the new brackets should be mounted. I bought these brackets from the Parts Place. Can someone tell me do I just remove the original brackets for non-power seat and weld these in the same place the originals were removed from?
  2. Well, I literally just found (just yesterday) the Cortez silver 1970 SS454 I have been looking for so it looks like the gold car will stay gold. I will still restore the car but I may do so at a more leisurely pace than originally planned. While I don't want to take up too much space from Goldie's (that what my wife dubbed her) build thread, I wanted to let everyone know. As you can see from the pictures below, this is a high option (power windows, power locks, AC, tilt, courtesy lights, comfort grip steering wheel) car. What you can't see is that it is a fully numbers matching original, garage stored since birth car with only a single repaint done in the late nineties. This is one nice car!!

  5. Well the guy I bought it from said he thought it was originally Cortez silver but I have since learned it is it's original color. That said, when I am finished with it, it will be a different car. I plan to leave it as a 4 speed (even though I have the numbers matching TH400). I will also be adding a few things the car did not have originally. Although it is a decently optioned (vigilite system, tilt wheel, lighting package, cloth bucket seats with console) SS with a numbers matching 454 it is also lacking a few options I want. It does not currently have the gauge package, I will definitely be adding that. I also plan to add power door locks with the power seat back releases, power windows, rear defogger, power drivers seat. So when I say I am returning it to it's "original glory", I mean the glory it should have had
  6. The fender you have pictured is indeed a '70 fender. And to answer your previous question, the differences are shown in both the pictures you posted. In the first picture you show where the extension mounts. The difference here is that the '70 fender has the posts (as you picture shows) and the extensions have holes for those pins. The 71/72 fenders are opposite, the fender has holes and the extension has the posts. The other difference is shown in your second picture. The area you have shown in that second picture would have a step in it between the two bolt holes.
  7. I will be cutting the trunk and likely inner wheel wells out of my donor car. I will check with the body guy to see if we can spare the quarters in the process. Let me know exactly what you need (pictures would help) and I will see what we can do.
  8. Well the process to restore this SS back to its original glory has begun. Last week I pulled the motor, stripped the engine compartment and stripped the interior out of the car preparing it to go to the body shop. Will post more pictures as the body work progresses.

    Dash vents

    Where can I buy reproduction dash vents that are correct for our cars? I have seen the ones OPGI and others carry but they do not include the lever to close the vent...this is true for both side vents as well as the center one. Does anyone make/sell the ones that match what was in the car?

  12. Does anyone know what the two parts pictured in the attached pictures are and if they are reproduced? The first one is attached to the front of the inner fender and the second is attached to the rear.
  13. That's great! Still wish I knew how to get the wire out of the one in my car though because I would like to use the NOS one if I can.
  14. Dennis, I am doing this to the gold (soon to be silver) one. I figured since the doors are coming off for the paint & body work, might as well do these to things at the same time. I thought that might be what the small connectors on the door lock harness might be for. I think they actually go to the door plunger that activates the seat back releases. I will also be installing those as well as a 4-way power drivers seat. As I say, I hope to get all this done while the car is apart for painting. Thanks for the diagrams, I actually have that manual but I loaned it out and have not gotten it back yet. Steve
  15. Thanks Dennis. I thought I remembered you telling me you had done this before. I didn't realize you had also done the locks, I have a question about that harness too. Both the drivers side harness and the passenger side harness have an odd looking plug with a yellow and orange wire going to it see attached picture. It looks like it probably goes to the plunger switch in the door jamb but I can't imagine why the power locks would need such a connection. Any idea what those wires are for?
  16. Reviving this old thread in hopes that someone can tell me how these things come a part I have this mirror in my 70 SS but the mirror is in pretty bad shape. I was lucky enough to find an NOS one a while ago at a swap meet but I can't figure out how I get the wire out of the one in the car so I can swap this new mirror in.
  17. I have both a power window and power lock systems that I bought "complete" at a swap meet years ago and am just now getting to doing something with them. I am currently working on the window harnesses and have it pretty much figured out but there are a couple of wires that I am not sure of. What I have figured out thus far is there are three separate harnesses. Driver door/main harness Passenger door harness Rear harness The wires that I am unclear on are on the Driver door/main harness there is an orange/black wire which I have determined plugs into the fuse box to provide power to the hole setup. There is also a pink wire run with that orange/black wire. I have no idea where this pink wire goes. Next on the rear harness, is an orange/black wire that is tied to the main harness orange/black (meaning it is power from the fuse box) but no idea what it is supposed to connect to it to get power? The first picture below shows the pink wire on the driver door/main harness. The second shows the orange/black wire on the rear harness. Can anyone enlighten me as to what these two wires are for and where they connect.
  18. Ok, so even though the bezel/face of the switch is chrome, it goes behind the plastic seat apron. Just looking at it, it looked like it was meant to have the chrome bezel on the outside of the apron but that would require an entirely different hole arrangement. I wasn't sure whether I had the wrong apron or maybe the wrong switch. So now my question is what is the screw/nut arrangement used to hold the switch to the apron? The bezel on my switch has holes but they are not threaded or anything so is it just a screw, star washer and nut? Can anyone enlighten me on what type and color of screw would be appropriate. I have attached a picture of what I have.
  19. Does anyone have the 4 way power bucket (drivers side only I believe) in your monte? If so I would like to see a picture of how the switch looks on the side. I have a power seat track with a switch and I have the proper (I think) side piece with the holes for the switch but I am not sure how it is supposed to mount.
  20. Mine is wired to the horn relay and I am nearly certain that is original location
