  1. Ya in California it used to be 30 years old is exempt, but that allowed way to many old clunkers to stay on the road pumping out smog, so about 10 years ago California changed the exempt law and made it so every 5 years the the exemption would move up one year, I also heard they later changed it again increaseing the amount of years before the exemption would move up a year. So the 30 year old thing doesn't apply in California anymore
  2. I believe the current year is 1976. So any vehicle 1976 or older is exempt from smog.
  3. Leghome, no, in California once a vehicle is exempt from smog there no standards or regulations on engines, so basically you get to do what ever you want to your engine. But besides that, California is probably the strictest state on emission control. Stangeba, what ever I take off my car gets stored in my garage, never thrown away....... But might end up getting sold on this site lol.
  4. Nice, I think I'll do the same, I not interested in all those environmental/smog parts, that's why I drive smog exempt cars! So I can do whatever the hell I want to them lol, however I do respect those who choose to keep all that stuff to have a nice all original classic .
  5. Hey guys, my 70's fuel gauge is also stuck just past full, my question is would it have any thing to do with the circuit board? Because my circuit board is in super bad condition basically it doesn't work.
  6. My 70 has that charcoal filter in the front, I live in Cali, I was wondering if I need it or not, so I guess I can take it out? Cool, the less clutter the better! But it has 3 hoses going to it, do I need those?
  7. Snomobeeler, OPG has speakers designed to fit inside of the Monte Carlo dash.
  8. Hey Monte70car, nice setup, where did you get your kick panels from and how much are they? OPG has a pair of similar kick panels with 6 1/2 pioneer 160 watt speakers included for $200.00 also where did you get your rear 6x9 enclosures, are they one piece with the rear deck or separate? I've never seen those before and want to get some, it looks like it well improve the sound quality of the 6x9's alot.
  9. Nice set up rock, I'm gonna do similar kick panels in the front, and you gave me a good idea with your highs and filters/crossovers, I all ready put 6x9's in the rear, and 2 10 inch JL audio subs in the trunk with 500 RMS watts JL amp, also put in a top of the line pioneer deck that has a built in voltage meter, so I don't have to buy that gauge when I start doing my after market gauge setup.
  10. Michael, wow, thanx for telling me about "ridetech" they have awesome setups, but the cheapest one I found on summit the "shockwave level 2" system is $5,800 a little out of my price range rite now, my current budget for air bags/suspension is around $2,500 maybe I need to wait unteIl I get more funds, unless anyone can recommend a system for my price range.
  11. Hey mcfan, awesome link on your coil spring install, great instructions and pics, it well help me a lot when I do my coil and shocks replacement. You said you put air bags in your 70' I also have a 70' and I want to air bag it, do you have any tips or suggestions on a system to buy?. I want to be able to lift and lower the front and rear with two toggle switches under the dash, I don't plan on having side to side.
  12. I know this is an old topic, but I have recently installed the American auto wire harness "510336" in my 70' Monte along with a new 150 amp internal regulated alternator ( you have to have an internal regulated alternator to run this harness) and it works great, easy install. I heard the painless harness is not "painless" at all!
