  1. Well, 15yrs here at FGMCC came real quick. I have been absent from here for a bit and like most jumped to our group and others on FB, But I will be missing from all for quite some time now. I have sold my 71 Monte and she is going to a Member down in Jared's neck of the woods, Geno Keller has bought it and it will be headed his way in a bit. Yes I have had my fair share of monte carlos, from 402-4spds to SS and even the convertable. but most know of my ongoing health issues, well my 24yr old son that has some brain damage from epilepsy and is autistic was just diagnosed with Lupus. he has suffered a fair bit this last 4 months and hair loss as well, so I sold the Monte and will focus on Brady and get his needs sorted out with the funds. I sure hope I still get my 15yr badge though ? hahaha      so for now its goodbye but hope to see what the future brings monte wise.... Hope I was of some value to the group with some knowledge and also not a Pain in the [censored].... Yes I said a bad... Thanks to my Monte Family here and to Rob and Aaron for what you do with the meets and Bob and past members like Caps and Andreas and scooter........ Larry and Ert and Bones, I am keeping an eye on you guys hahahaha

yea they are selling on ebay from anywhere from 600 to 2300... and this is the rarest year 1970.

$1000usd and its for sale.   shipping to the usa will be up there as these weigh a fair bit.

  3. Sad to hear of this news....... Had met terry and his wife at the Western Meets and spoke to him quite a few times there and he was a nice guy.... recently Terry had been working on a 4spd car and had emailed lots of times asking 4spd questions and about Canadian built cars... always a pleasure sharing info and chatting with Terry.......

Any one any time it seems can be called home........... Sad to hear of your Passing Terry.....

  4. Hi Glen, all 1970 SS came with 256 Limited slip positraction. in 1971 it was changed to 3:31 gears and also limited slip positraction   oh and yes your car was Ordered by a Customer rather than stock that sat on the lot waiting to be bought with the options it happens to have rather than checked off by the purchaser. although you could add options later but would be Dealer Installed and not show up on the Born Build Sheet

  7. Riding Darren's coat-tails with this post.😀

Brought home this 44K mile 72 2 weeks ago.

    Custom package

    350 4 bbl, 12 bolt posi

A/C, Power windows, Tach dash, bench seat, AM/FM stereo

Early built - 5th week November 71, so no seat belt warning light in dash, and has the larger seatbelts.

Drives like new, rides smoother than my restored cars...something to be said for rubber vs. urethane bushings I guess.

Thats AWESOME dave....!!!!    Looks great right down to the whitewalls......!  I may have to whisper this so others dont hear.

but I have a spare Pass side CORRECT Sport Mirror...... just like my factory one...

Asking for opinions on boxing the frame in to stiffen it. Is it a good idea or a waste of time? Is there any reasonable priced kits? I have seen some but very pricey.

Hi Don, is there a specific reason you would be after boxing in the frame ? The convertibles and el camino's have boxed in frames for two obvious reasons with one being a convertable folding top and loss of body strength from a roof line thats not solid. and the el camino for it being in a truck catagory and adding weight in the rear...

are you resto moding the Monte or ?

  9. Hey Sendo, have you tried places that sell Air Shocks and fittings or small Plumbing and fitting parts ? I dont know if Inline Tube their website might have any specialty fittings. Those parts are more common in airline and small fixture fittings if you have either of those stores down there.....?

  11. Yeah that Block has been restamped, that is not the correct Font in letters and correct spacing that we used at GM. Bad enough to tell its a restamp but could be someones attempt at restamping an original block that happened to have been decked before they asked for the machining to be tilted on the end run so the factory stamp remains....

  12. Not Monte related but had to share something I thought was funny and cute and how kids think and say the right things...

i have mentioned this before and as most know my health has flat lined a lot over the past with Kidney and Pancrease issues.

but my kids always used to say Dad is like superman he can do anything, and work was always saying Slow down you are Not superman anymore. Now I am off work for good and sure know there is no Cape there anymore... haha

then my 11 year old Daughter is out with my 25 year old daughter shopping for christmas stuff and the younger one spots this for sale at a used furniture place and says to my eldest.. hey I bet if we got this for Dad he can jump in it and he will be all back to normal.... Dam I thought that was good...... just sharing a weekend laugh...

    Hey Darren,

Thanks for posting the pic. I was actually thinking of white with a black stripe as the paint scheme. Did you use the original heads or go with aluminum heads? Also, can you put a roller cam in a BBC original engine? Did you paint or do some sort of Rhino lining in the bed. It looks black in the picture.

Thanks everyone for your honest input and ideas!!

    Mike

Hi Mike, Retained the original heads and have heard you can use a roller cam but would need the Tall valve covers added after and would take away from the stock look. The box area was clean and left in Factory white but it had a rubber gm matt on the box floor and a matt on the tailgate so when it was down the rubber liner continued over the tailgate as well for protection. it was a custom matt as it fitted around the wheel wells and the contour of the tailgate and around the inner handle.

    Darren...

PS, would love to build an El Monte myself and also have a 70 parts car with a front clip to be able to do so..... I have had one of each year and also as you know I had a convertible monte so an El Monte would be the best final one haha..
