  1. Hey Chris, just the tip of the iceberg with the chevelle sharing the trunk light.

Just to name a few to start with here, the chevelle and Monte Carlo were related all the way through.

    SAME

Power windows, Power door locks, Power trunk, diff, disk Brakes, springs, trunk lid, hinges for doors and hood,

Full dash and wiring, steering column, engines, Radiators, buckets and console,.......the list goes on and on and on.

1970 to 1972 chevelle and 1970 to 1972 Monte carlo

  2. Ok I’m adding a picture from GM As you can see the correct heat stove for our SS is part number 3976061 and a flex heat tube. No elbow. And a clamp. BTW there was one on eBay just a day or so ago for $400 not mine. Hope this clears everything up. Bobattachicon.gifimage.jpg

Thanks for the Larger picture Bob, My picture I posted is the exact same one on my second post but it does not enlarge as yours does. I can tell my stove is correct via picture and the neck is the correct angled one as well seen plus the number 10 retainer strap and heat tub. But what I cant say 100% is the 90 on it with clamp. We have all seen and heard GM has done or used what parts they had or put on here and there. All I can say is it was as you see it when Larry helped me purchase it and I did the full resto on it myself and put it back the way she came out of Oshawa... But its all there....

  3. Darren, our '70 SS was built in Van Nuys. It came with the deluxe belts, and the waist belts have the small buckle. I believe the purpose was to make it easier to put the belts on and not have to adjust or switch them, once they are adjusted to length. I've seen other '70 Montes with the small buckle.

    Dan

Hey Dan when you pull out the small buckle seat belt all the way to the end what is the Date numbers and letter on them ?

That is Bizzar...... My 1970 SS and my 1971SS as seen in my signature Picture Both Have Factory Deluxe seat belts with the separate Should belts and Both have the Large Head Deluxe Belts for both waist and shoulder applications.

  4. Nice looking monte, lots of options.

The only things I catch are the Non SS exhaust tips on the rear and then the Strange Deluxe seat belts.

Strange as in 1970 had the Large Deluxe Seat Belt Buckles Front and Rear and the Console reflects the Dual Large Buckle Holders,

yet the Pictures show sitting on the front of both buckets SMALL Deluxe Buckles........? The shoulder belt you can see is a Large Tongue, you cant see the waist belt Tongue that retracts but they didnt use the Small Head Buckle until 72.

still easy changes, and yes Counter Exchange engines were used as warranty replacement blocks from either cracked blocks or thrown rods etc.....

    Nice Monte

  5. Hey Kelly when I did my 71, it was easy to pop off those white flat ones from inside the door. with the door panel off and window up good old needle nose pliers help to pinch the plastic wings so you can push them out from inside.

The Metal spider type ones you can buy new from Inline tube in the USA and they only come off unfortunately with needle nose or side cutters and wiggle out. they will break but at least they are out and get the new ones from Inline tube like I did as well as the white now yellow flat plastic ones for the wider trim..

  6. On an unrelated quest underneath my dashboard of my 71, I've run across a few things I'm not quite sure about and hoping someone can help.

Am I missing something? I'm thinking I just reconnect them and skip the connector. Any thoughts?

Can someone help, and are you missing something............

YES rip it all out as its crap and you can HAVE the spare uncut 71 dash harness I have, it's a spare in the shed Kelly.......!

the 4 wire plug with 2 orange wires is your heater switch for a non ac car.

I also have two spare steering column harness's as well Kelly as it looks like you are going to need one of those from your pics....

If you want to try and fix what you have I can figure out your wires but might be better to get another uncut harness, let me know..

  7. This is just terrible news.............. I never met Dave personally at our meets but had the pleasure of chatting with him via phone on a couple of occasions and with my short stint on Team Chevelle with Davey...

Shocked and Saddened to hear this..... RED you are in my thoughts as is Davey's Family.......

    God Bless

  8. Numbers are correct......... ??

if they are then the Intake is 100% wrong and so are the Valve Covers. the carb has to be a 800cfm and the temp sensor down by the oil filter also 100% wrong.

512 Block sure but then again every single LS5 is a 512 block like in my 71SS. here is some info:

Chevelle SS LS6. LS6 454/450 HP in 1970 two versions of the 454 were know to exist, the ls5 360 hp and its big brother the ls6 450 hp.The ls6 454 features a holley 800 cfm carb, low-profile, dual plenum aluminum intake manifold, rectangular port closed chamber large valve cast iron heads, solid lifters, forged steel crank, four bolt mains and 11:1 pistons.

  9. Great question!

I have black cloth and don't remember an option for vinyl covers for my seats when I ordered it.

My friend had tan cloth in his 71 SS.

    Bruce

Hey Bruce, Our cars were only a couple of weeks apart and my 71ss has the Black vinyl bucket seats. I wish I had the Cloth Bucket Seats instead. So or too hot in the summer and in my opinion the cloth is the rare of the two choices and would rather have Cloth.

Dennis you forgot to mention the reverse angle for bucket seat donors....... ANY chevelle bucket seats from late 69 to 72 bucket seats will work in our cars instead of the other way around haha

bucket seats from an olds or gto or cutlass will also work just different seat covers in 70-72.

  10. Just to clarify, voltage in and of itself is not affected by temperature, however the conductor material is affected by temperature.

    I'm an electronics nerd, sorry.

The resistance of a wire also increases with the temperature of the wire because as temperature increases, the electrons begin to move faster and collide with each other more, thereby causing resistance to increase.

    basically..........

  11. So far so good guys, Dan is correct Mike. The Handle for a Benchseat muncie and a Buckets Muncie Both bolt in the same way to the same shifter.

**** Dont Forget Mike, Yes the carpet is different from a bench seat car to a buckets car. Look under any Bench seat and you will see there is no carpet under it for a gap of roughly 11-12" and almost the whole width of the benchseat. A buckets carpet is full****

**** Also a Console top plate will have the Shift Pattern on a Plate that is affixed to the console top plate. Therefore the Shifter handle Knob or Ball is plain with NO shift pattern on it as its already on the console shift plate**** Lots will tell you its on Both but it is not, benchseat cars are the only shifter knobs with shift patterns on them no console cars had them they never put them on them from all the years I was with GM.

  12.

My question is what position does the shifter have to be in for me to completely turn off the key and remove it from the ignition switch in the column?

Reverse (if an El Camino is like a Monte).

You Betcha thats it......... Reverse Lock out, meaning it locks out in reverse now releasing the ignition key when the sleeve on the column is turned all the way.

Some Muncie Tranny's have the sensor in the casing for the reverse lights to be activated and come on and some have them activated from the steering column from what appears to be the Neutral switch.

My 1967 Chevy Shortbed that has a Factory 327 M20 4spd does just that, the casing has no sensor and the column triggers the reverse lights.

  13. Hi Mike, see answers and suggestions to your questions:

    Things to Do Yet

    - Remove Speedometer cable (looks longer than a Monte one) YES a 4spd cable is quite a bit longer.
    - Remove Pedal Assembly....... Take whole assembly not just pedals, the set up unbolts from the firewall from the 4 nuts that hold on the booster on and the main assembly is what holds the pedals up in place. The reason I say this is because the 4spd set up will already have the neutral safety switch holes pre drilled and switch should be inside elky already. plastic will be brittle so dont try to pop switch off as new ones are $300 just for switch.
    - Look at removing Hump and location.....Yes a Bench seat hump and a Bucket seat hump are different and so are the Muncie Shifter handles. Benchseat handle and buckets handle are way different.

    Questions
    - Reverse Light wiring (just supplys ground)...........Yes
    - Neutral Safety Switch and wiring.............YES should be in El Camino if not your monte wont have it and then it's Ebay Time..
    - Torque Specs......... Google search as well as Team Chevelle will have those specs
o Flywheel Bolts (60?) ................... Napa Or Pep Boys
o Clutch Bolts (45?) ....................... Napa Or Pep Boys
    o Bell Housing bolts (??)..................7/16ths x 1-3/4..........some are 3/8ths but double check
    - Which driveshaft to use (I’m thinking the Monte one)    YES Monte, measure from center to center of U joint to get over all length.
    - Which Flywheel to use (original is pitted – can it be smoothed or just buy new)......New One...Napa or Pep Boys
    - Different humps for console vs non-console cars    YES as Mentioned above
    - Should I have someone check out the trans before putting it in (gaskets, seals, etc.)............. YES check it out

  14. Morning Mike, Just a quick reply I will chip in my 2 cents Pal I just got some running around to do and will reply a little later. quick thoughts are Z Bar bracket IS different for sure, There is a guy on Ebay that quite a few of us have bought from his name is Mike and goes by the Ebay Name of Sonnie24 he sells lots of Chevelle/ Monte Cralo/ Elky stuff and he sells our tach and gauges and also Clutch components even the Z Bracket you seek. will get back to you on a list later on what to keep off elky

Maybe Sam and Murphy will chip in as well

****** I have a spare Dowl for the back of the crankshaft for the M21 if you need one*****

Here is a list of what I think will work:

    - Bellhousing, fork and throw-out bearing should work                                  YES
    - Flywheel and clutch should work                                                               YES
    - M21 and all linkage should work                                                                YES
    - All of Z-Bar (except frame bracket) should work                                        YES
    - Shifter and console should work                                                               YES

Here is a list of things that I am unsure of at this time that might give me trouble:
    - Driveshaft might be different (El Camino M21 12-bolt vs Monte TH350 12-bolt)?           Different
    - Neutral Safety Switch, linkage and wiring?                           SAME & KEEP STEERING COLUMN AS WELL
    - Ignition Lock-out mechanism?                              A Different bracket on frame for monte    MIKE Sonnie24

    - Backup Light wiring?                                    WILL WORK
    - Speedometer Cable different?                      TAKE FROM ELKY ITS THE SAME
    - Steering column different?                              SAME TAKE
