  1. Well today was the day after two years torn apart, the 71ss is back on the road and driving. weather was just right, not too hot or too cold. found a quiet area to snap some shots. just gotta figure out how to adjust the air ride level....??? I let some air out of the valve and then the pump kicks right back in and fills them back up again. hahahahaha

  3. Thanks guys........... My 71ss started off life in 1971 as Code 49 A which meant Antique Green or more commonly referred to as Forest Green like in 1970. and the roof was White meaning A... instead of black.   in 1977 the previous owner that I bought it from had it painted 1971 Code 29 B...... which is Not Black... Code 29 was used by Buick and Chevrolet in 1971 but not in the Monte or Chevelle line, it was the same color but two different names ... Buick called it Command Blue and Chevrolet (Corvette) called it Midnight Blue. B was for the Black Vinyl Roof.  But for all intent purposes He appears triple Black but out in certain light you can see that Midnight Blue Hue..... It's actually really cool but would so much like to put it back to 49 A eventually when money is saved up.... but for now will enjoy the Blue....

Incidentally Oshawa produced only 9 forest green SS cars in 1971 according to the GM Docs and only 2 came with the White vinyl top and according to GM the other White top car was written off so it would be the only forest green white top canadian built 71ss left...... super cool...

Thanks Aaron, I think you will like it when you see it. Especially the Tail light Trim as I put on the NOS ones I had in GM Brown boxes, and that means RED/PINK crossbars....!!!!

  5. Darren, gorgeous car! One question, do they reproduce the rear trim that's on the 71 ss cars. I'm talking about the curved upper trim pieces that tie into the taillights and connect to the upper and lower straight trim. Jeff

Hey Jeff, Welcome to the site and the club...... Those parts they refer to them as Upper and Lower Hockey Sticks. Tamraz repops the Lower Sticks but as far as I am aware no one is repopping the Upper Hockey Sticks yet.

  7. my 1970 I parted out had them. they were a thin rubber gasket that was shaped about 1 inch wide and followed the housing shape and slid over the Cast pegs in the housing where they get tightened by speed nuts. the gaskets were sandwiched between the tail of the rear 1/4 and the ext housing or tail light housing that bolted on.

1 per side.    ********** Rubber was as thick as a Credit Card********

  8. You can just see that in my picture as well Kelly, It's a purge or bleeder valve lets any condensation in the system or lines to bleed out and down the tube like the overflow from radiator. Usually when no longer under load and the system bleeds out thats where the condensation comes out.

  9. Hi Paul, I lucked out on my 71SS. When I bought it From Ken who was part of the Eastern Meet guys two years ago. He had tons of NOS Parts that he threw in with the sale of the car he had bought back in 1978 and 1979 from GM before they became NLA (No Longer Available).

In One Brown colored box were two NOS Red Air Shocks from AC Delco with the GM sticker on the box and also a separate Blue and white box with the Comfort Ride complete Air line kit also GM sticker and NOS.  I did end up buying 1 more Pair of Black NOS Air Ride shocks from a member on here same deal with decals from GM on Boxes etc.... Red ones are on the 71 now to match the red on the front and the spare Black ones I will keep as spares.

lots repop them inc AC Delco but they have changed a lot in appearance from yesteryear.

  10. Hi Rick, The passenger inner fenderwell sticker is the Oil Change and specification decal that appeared on the Canadian Built Monte Carlos. It also states the Plants Address and Town with Postal Code on it as well and talks about the interval changes for Oil Change.

The Radiator one's are from left to right are..... Radiator Fluid Specs, Limited slip Differential equipped car, and then the standard Engine ID and Emissions info with Timing etc Decal.    Not in the photo's there is another Canadian Decal on the side of the air cleaner right where the "Keep your GM all GM" AC Delco Decal would be on Small Block Cars only, Mine has once again the Dealer Plant Mini Decal stating Oshawa and the Plant Address info.

In the trunk on the Lid there is a Jacking Instruction Decal on pass side of lid and on the drivers side the white full size decal on Limited Slip Diff Info.

I had to hunt around real hard for those, as no one hardly has the Canadian Decals such as the AU Emissions code on 454 Decal and then the Oshawa Decals too, I tried The Parts Place Inc and Danchuk's and Ausley's and then found most of my Decals through Jim Osborn's.

  11. Darren from what I've read most if not all el Camino had factory air ride That's where I got my shock protectors from for my 70 right off the rear end in our el Camino.

Hello Mr King, hows things Rob ? Yes they all had air shocks for sure, in Kelly's Monte he had what appears to be Air Shocks from an El Camino from my guess as the one side had the double tube holes like my elky did. But........ my 71ss like Kellys monte had only one tube hole in each and ran off the air ride load leveller. it just seemed odd that Kelly's has what appears to be elky shocks ?

any input Rob ? did your elky have the two tube line in one shock ?

    Darren

  12. Hey Kelly, My original shocks looked identical to those in every way but one hole in each. Now the 72 W code El Camino had Factory air ride BUT had those exact shocks in the rear now I see them. they filled off 1 inlet when the tailgate was down it was off to the right side in the pan with a tag that said do not fill more than 40lbs.

In the picture if you look close above the diff in my 71 SS you can see the load leveller trigger hooked up to the right upper arm. the leveller has two white lines, one for the left shock and one going to the right shock both seperate. What cant be seen but has the single brass port off the front and thats where the single black line feed would go from the pump up front.

    hope that helps.....?

  14. The Western Meet was another Great time and all Thanks to Aaron and April's help pulling it off Yet Again.... !!!!  Well done to you both.....

This year for me it was great to meet and spend time with some great members I had yet to meet and some new ones as well.

Robert was just a plain and simple pleasure to talk to, lots of questions and good conversation..

Kevin was like sitting down and picking up where we left off last time to talk with yet never met before

Terry, great guy good stories and a Loud monte hahahaha

Got to see friends close and far that I have met before and just great to chat with such as Lon,Matt, Kelly, Cameron and his son Steve, Bill, Kevin (Mr Hardluck), Aaron and the list goes on of memebers not mentioned and not for any particular reason just cant name them all in this post, including the Monte Family from home, Vaughn, Keith, Pat, and Liam.

I guess for me that sums it up as just mentioned, funny to call them Monte Family but when you see these guys and pick up where you left off and fill in the gaps we all chat like family and the jokes and puns.......

never any harsh words between any at all

GREAT TIME HAD THIS YEAR AND COULDNT HAVE ASKED FOR A BETTER ONE ALL AROUND.

  15. Well it's been a little while and just about got it licked. Keith is headed over on Thursday night to help install the hood plus the 4 hours it takes to align it hahaha I hate re-installing hoods and yes tried every trick in the book I think for marking and drilling and so on and they dont work..... side shots look good on alignment and body is square on the frame and Bodymounts are tightened down to 35ft pounds with half squished rubbers as GM's were and voila......

**** Yes the Caution Decal is Not factory and may take it off yet but it helps keep fingers away when running engine... Also the yellow Limited Slip decal was on my CDN built monte and there is the other in the trunk on the lid. Aaron's 71ss CDN built had this decal as well***

  17. I agree with Dennis, The Corvette and the Chevelle came with the Chrome Valve Covers and on the Drivers side rear they had what was termed as the Crushed Corner on the one side. It wasn't really crushed just a 45 slope to pass by the Power brake booster set up when changing valve cover Gaskets. The chrome lid that appears on your car was a Corvette/ Impala 427 air

cleaner lid. The chevelle Chrome lid was more Flat like Robert King is running on his Cowl hood set up on his Monte which

    is the chevelle set up.

The impala 427 also used the chrome valve covers starting in 1969. Monte and Caprice used Orange valve covers and Black air cleaner lids.

But Dealer Installs would install anything you wanted on your car, We had guys back in the day order their Chevelle with power windows and not order the power door locks and then got us at the dealership to install locks later after the car arrived, just not Factory Ordered but Dealer Installed.

  18. Hey Murphy, you may want to reach out to Jeff (ss454-71) he has a jig made up to make Dual Snorkle air cleaners and from what he has sent me in the past picture wise he does a real nice job and he may have a spare for sale. They look like the real thing.

    just my 2 cents....

  19. Branden, here are two pics. Please note due to two gauge packages there are some slight differences. upper in each pic is fuse block and lower in each picture is Cluster plug in behind gauges. Also Tach and gauges or Idiot light dash.. *** YES IT SAYS CHEVELLE BUT THEY ARE 100% IDENTICAL TO OUR DASHES****
