LOL. The "Coupe Nazi" made sure to stay on me pointing out every fingerprint.

He kept such a close eye on my car that when he packed up his car cover he actually put it in my trunk!! Too funny.

Great to meet you and your family Mike. It really gave everyone a long time to get to know one another personally. Always a good thing.

I think everyone owes you a bit of gratitude for the use of your golf cart. It prevented many a sore back I am sure.

Just have to find myself a clean fan tunnel and tidy up a few things to be 100%. I am glad Steve took first regardless.

It is his efforts and friendship that has kept many of us "not so talented" guys on Long Island looking/running our best.

Granted, I was there every step of the way doing my fair share of the grunt work, but it was his efforts that made my car what it is today.

A big thanks to Steve. As he says during my learning curve "Patience Grasshopper" LOL

  2. you need to get some good videos of the launches Mike....I'm betting it's not squatting at all but really going up on the tire with good weight transfer that looks like a squat...if it's not doing that then there is more there with suspension tuning... grin
Hey Davey....your comment put a smile on my face. Remember the phrase "you don't know squat" ? Nobody can say that to you! Apparently you DO know squat!

The bleed down rate on my Morel 4603's after over 300 passes was still only 3%, what they are telling you makes no sense. Bleed down has nothing to do with the valvetrain's ability to carry the rev specs...that's lifter type, valve spring pressures and geometry.... wink
I am awaiting confirmation but I went on the morel site and I am going to guess that they are the #5045 Lifters.
I just found out I have the same lifters as you.

  5. Greg do you know exactly what Morel's are in it? They have 4..a street lifter for smaller cams under .600 lift (I doubt they are those but you never know)..a sportsman lifter which is the most common (#4603)...a limited travel lifter...these 3 are all in a .842 body...and a new one for a .903 lifter body (very new)....one thing is they do not like a heavy oil, they recommend a 5 or 10/30....40 at the very max...they will make some noise for a couple of 100 miles. The pre-load doesn't seem to be as much of an issue as the valvetrain geometry and rocker type. Aluminum rockers make noise all by themselves and sometimes that's mistaken for the lifters. In the Chevelle you can hear the rockers more than the lifters..the Monte used steel rockers and was totally quiet..both cars have the 4603 sportsman lifters...

I don't have the part number for the Morel lifters and since I am in Florida, I don't have my paperwork. These are their High Rev lifters. According to the builder, they were having a problem with the lifters breaking over 6k rpm. Their solution is these lifters which bleed down, hence the clacking. The suggestion was originally to go with the 10w 30. The latest was to go to a 5w 30 which you already know. It is not the rockers as the noise does go away. Since my motor is all in at 5800 rpm, my thought was to go with the non rhodes like lifters....lol. Your thoughts as always are quite welcomed! I will try the lighter oil first and keep my fingers crossed.

  6. you're headed in the right direction Greg, it's gonna want all the air and fuel it can get. Even my "little" 509 will take everything I can throw at it. As far as timing I wouldn't expect really big improvements with bumping it but certainly do that. Along with Sam and Mike when I ran mind on the dyno 38 degrees was its sweet spot. That said when we backed it off to 32 it only lost 18 hp and 12 ft lbs so not a huge difference. Of course this will very from build to build but it gives you an idea what to expect....when you have a few extra $$ you will need to call Patrick at ProSystems for a carb built to your motor/setup specs... wink

I would like to do some baseline testing on my Subaru tuners Mustang Dyno. I think a ProSystems carb is in my future! On a side note, the Morel Hi Rev lifters I have make a racket till it warms up. I would go with a Straub cam if I can rid myself of that noise. All in all, I am having a blast. And, those Nitto 555R's are working so far. Nothing beats running my car as it sits. The looks I get in the staging lanes is priceless! Thanks for the help!

Thanks Davey.....I am heading out to the next test and tune on Wednesday to see what the timing adjustment did. If drive train and accessory loss is actually around 12% to 15%, I am probably close to what the motor did on the dyno.
