  1. How long is it. There should be a black wire that looks like that going to your door jamb switch for the dome light. Is there also a white wire there. It should also go to your door jamb switch for dome light. That looks a factory wire, not anything from an aftermarket radio.

  2. The location of the wires in the 12 pin connector for the instrument clusters for 70-72 are the same, but the firewall end of the harness is not the same. The wires are in different locations on that end of the harness.

  3. Are you trying to use the good 70 non tach dash wire harness? Are you trying to convert the non tach 70 dash harness to a 71 tach dash harness?

Are your engine bay harnesses original for a 71?

The dash wiring for 70 through 72 is NOT the same. Under the hood 71 and 72 are NOT the same.

  4. Your dash harness will not have the plug to connect the extension harness to it. You will have to tap into a White wire, an Orange wire and a Gray wire in your dash harness. The White ties into the door jamb switch for your console courtesy light at the rear of the console. The Orange ties into a constant hot for constant power for the courtesy light. The Gray ties into the dash lights for your shift indicator lights on your console top plate.

  5. You already have what you need, other than the fastener that is missing. See that small hole in the heater box just below that steel tab with a larger hole in it. you need to put a fastener in there to connect the plastic duct to the heater box. There is always a gap down there. That does not get sealed up.

  6. Try rotating the collar on the column counter clock wise and try to rotate the key again. As stated above, you could also try removing the actual ignition switch from the column to see if the rod will have a full range of motion when turning the key to the different positions.  I had this same problem many years ago. I just can not remember exactly what it was, but I remember me saying to myself, silly me. It was something very simple that I was doing wrong. If I remember correctly it was that the arm on the end of the column was in the wrong position. To correct that rotate the collar on the column counter clockwise. Is the column out of the car? Could you have a non tilt ignition switch? They are different than what is used on a tilt column. When I say ignition switch, I do not mean lock cylinder. One time I had a problem with the pin that locks into the lock ring to lock the steering wheel in place. I think the problem there was that is was rusted in place and was not able to move in and out. Not sure if that was part of the problem that I had that was similar to the problem like you are having, but it did cause some issue for me.
