  1. Great to here. Thank you for the quick response. I just do not want it any lower.
  2. I just pulled my front coil spring on my 72 small block to replace with big block springs. THe original springs are approx 2" longer. Did I get the wrong springs? They are thicker steel on the new ones Just want to be sure before I install. Thank you
  3. Has anyone ever converted to rack and pinion of a FGMC?
  4. Looks like the street fire is a OEM replacement. It is only well performing to 4000rpms. I am going with pro billet MSD per Mark Jones. It is adjustable for performance tweeking.
  5. I will be getting a moderate modified 454 engine soon. I am thinking HEI MSD for a distributer. There are choices from 120-400.00. What do you use/recommend for a BB distributor? Thanks
  6. I think you will be miserable on the highway with 3.73 gears. 3.42 gearing for a BB max. You have enough low end torque without it.jmo
  7. Plus you do not always know the exact condition of buying a used one. It is 1100.00 to have a Posi carrier, ring and pinion gear and all new bearings/seals installed in my single leg 12 bolt unit. I am thinking it over myself. Then you need to box the arms I believe.
  8. I bought a fan shroud from parts place for BB and it is shorter than my sb unit. If I mount the shroud tube from my small block to it, I should pull away from the fan at least 2-3 inches. Hopefully my 454 will work with it.
  9. Thanks, I try to do things right the first time. It is much more affordable in the long run. It seems a 3;08 is the most all round rear gear but I am considering a gear vendor which would take a year to save up for. I could go to a 3.42 gear and have it all. At 3:42 the gear vendor would be at around 2.60 in 3rd OD and give me a little snap off the line. Doing it right is alot more expensive and may have to limit long highway drives until the GV is installed.
  10. Transmission Final Gear Ratio needed for 400th unit. Trying to calculate my rpms with different gear scenerios. Is it 1.00 thank you
  11. It is outside and raining so I will recheck tomorrow but I did not see it there yesterday. I am thinking it is probably a 2.73 gear. I want either a 3.08 or 3.31.
  12. So I pulled of the cover to access the ring and pinion. This is all the info. ED32088, The next numbers were so small, I am not sure GM 8203 32 LN, the last was on the gear 45R. I counted 15 on the pinion gear. I did not count the ring gear as I assumed it was 45 but that would be 3.0 and that would not be applicable. I am thinking 2.73 probably but not confident. I am deciding whether to add a carrier on my 72 12 bolt and redo bearings and such or rip out the whole dif posi unit from the 70 and put in 72 but with such high gearing I am not sure.
  13. autozone told me they have a chrome set up that fits both. Not sure if they got right.
  14. I think a 468ci 500hp unit with ATI torque converter and posi 308 should be a great combo for street/crusing? It seems like 3.08 is a nice balance. I drive open highway alot here in NM. The speed limit is 75 on I 40 and 65 on I25. 3.42 sure would be fun in town.
  15. How is that 3.43 gear working out? How is it for crusing at say 60mph?
  16. It looks like 500.00 for the posi carrier to be installed. A 3:08 gear is 150 and bearings set is 100 and labor is 350.00. It comes to around 1100.00 for the conversion. How does that sound?
  17. When I pull my th 350 tranny can I use the dipstick for the th400 unit or are they different fits? Thank you
  18. Just found out it is 12 bolt but not posi traction. Why even have a 12 bolt. Now what
  19. Just picked up my 72. It is a 350 4 brl with a 12 bolt. I guess I need to change the C clips to handle 500 hp ?
  20. It's ok, you can hang out with the BBC's now.
  21. Headers will be for a 454.
  22. Thanks guys, Just trying to get it done right the first time. What are the advantages of the coated version. Is it work almost double the cost? Thanks
  23. What specific model/order # of hedman headers did you get?
  24. I think Albuquerque would make a great western car meet location (: seriously. We will have to meet and show and tell soon.
  25. Big Jim, Would you know your rpms at say 60-70 mph?
